Docking Station and Port Replicator
Docking Station• In essence, a docking station is designed to transform a
notebook into a desktop computer. • The smaller and lighter your notebook, the more likely you'll
need a docking station. Because the manufacturer had to leave a fair amount of features (such as a DVD/CD driver) out of the computer to make it so thin and light.
• Docking station does the same job as a port replicator. However, a docking station may also include slots for expansion cards, storage device bays, CD/DVD drives, etc.
Replicator• A port replicator is primarily meant to make connecting
peripherals to your notebook more convenient. • A port replicator is similar to a docking station, but does not
include expansion slot.

Enhanced ESD Testing for LAN
Human Body Model• Simulates the discharge from the fingertip of a standing electro
statically charged individual delivered directly to the IC • Tests the IC’s capability to withstand an ESD transient during normal
handling such as in a manufacturing line where the ICs are to behandled frequently
Contact Discharge• Applies the ESD current directly to the Equipment Under Test (EUT)• The current is transferred onto the keypad, USB or serial port of the
equipment directly and then travels through the PCB traces and finally reaching the “front-line” IC
Machine Model• Represents the rapid discharge from a charged board assembly or
from the charged cables of an automatic tester• Similar to the HBM except that the ESD current induced into the IC is
more severe with the Machine Model because it consists of a 200pF capacitor discharged directly into an IC with no series resistor.
