Alex Hurst (left July 2009) has been awarded The Earl of Derby Prize for aFirst Class Award for Part II of the Historical Tripos from Trinity CollegeCambridge.

After a first class performance in examinations, Sean Maguire has beenelected into a Bachelor Scholarship and has been awarded The WallacePrize from Emmanuel College Cambridge.

After a first class performance in examinations, Lawrence Aitchison hasbeen awarded a college prize from Emmanuel College Cambridge.

A LEVEL & GCSE RESULTS

15 students each claimed 4 A*/A grades leading the School to a 100%A Level Pass Rate for the 6th year in succession.

83% of ALL passes were achieved at grades A*/A and B with 58% of allA Level exams being awarded A* or A grades.

British Physics Olympiad

Oliver Towers was successful in the Summer Physics Challenge, as a resultof which he was invited to a Summer Physics School at CambridgeUniversity in July.

UK Junior Maths Challenge

112 pupils were awarded Gold, Silver or Bronze certificates. MaxinePerroni-Scharf top scored in the School and qualified for Junior MathsOlympiad.

UK Intermediate Maths Challenge

64 pupils were awarded Gold, Silver or Bronze certificates. Joe Watson (topscore in the School), Jack Hines and Isaac Webber qualified automaticallyfor the Intermediate Maths Olympiad. Ten other pupils qualified for theEuropean Maths Competition. Ross Edwards also sat the Olympiad examand was awarded a Distinction and earned a Gold Medal for hisoutstanding performance.

UK Senior Maths Challenge

43 pupils were awarded Gold, Silver or Bronze certificates.

British Maths Olympiad

Ross Edwards was awarded a distinction for his performance in the highlyprestigious exam – he ranked in the top 100 nationally.

Senior Team Maths Challenge

The team of Abhinav Gandhi, Lara Dior, Jack Cane and Ollie Towers wonthe regional finals and qualified for the National Finals in London.

Ross Edwards was one of only 22 students nationally to be invited to aweek-long maths training camp at the Queen’s College, Oxford during thesummer.

Arkwright Scholarships

Jordan Salmon was awarded the prestigious design scholarship.

Young Applicants for Schools with Open University (YASS)

Engineering Education Scheme

Elliot Davis, James Garfield, Sam Griffiths and Nikhil Parekh teamed upwith Jaguar Land Rover to design and make an Active Spoiler for a Jaguarsports car.

Target 2.0 Team

Four pupils’William McTighe, Sarah Bradbury, Chris Thomas and TomWintle achieved success in the Bank of England National Competition ininvestigating the most appropriate monetary measures the Governmentshould take to reach it’s 2% inflation target.

Young Enterprise

All three of the School Young Enterprise Teams achieved success. Mostnotably ‘Relation’ who were crowned Solihull Borough Champions.

SPORT

AthleticsThe U14 Girls team won the area round of the Track and Field Cup andprogressed through to the Regional Finals.

Nakita Basra, Georgina Jones, Adina Bailey, Sam Deakin, and Molly Ealeswere all selected to represent Solihull Borough at the West MidlandsChampionships. At the Championships, Lottie Harland finished 3rd in theHigh Jump, Poppy Eales was 3rd in the Hurdles; Sam Deakin 4th in LongJump and 5th in Hurdles. Molly Eales was 2nd in the Triple Jump.

Molly was selected to represent the West Midlands at the English SchoolsChampionships, where she jumped 11.39m to win the Bronze Medal in theU17 Triple Jump. Molly was subsequently selected to compete at the UKSchool Games where she jumped 11.51m to win a Silver Medal.

Adina Bailey and Poppy Eales were selected to compete for West MidlandsCounty at the Inter County Combined Events; Poppy finished 2nd andAdina 5th, which means they will now go on to represent the WestMidlands in Pentathlon at the English Schools Combined Events.

The U14 team were unbeaten this season. There were some excellentperformances from Ben Fowles,in the 800m,400m and Discus; CharlieHadley in the Hurdles, Long and Triple jump; Oliver Cottom in the 400mand Triple jump; Moses Fakatou in the sprints and Paolo Peschisolido in thesprints and Long Jump.

Cross Country

Lydia Roll had an excellent season, being selected for the West Midlandsand competing at the Inter Counties.Matthew Meredith and Joe Watson won the annual Sutton Park Pairs Race.

Dance

Joe Bitter retained his World Irish Dancing title at the World Irish DancingChampionships in Dublin. Joe has now won over 30 national titles.

Equestrian

The School Equestrian team (Lottie Harland, Beth Eldred, Sally Warmingtonand Frintan Bristow) competed at Princethorpe College in April, winningfirst place in the Novice (80cm) Show Jumping after a very exciting jumpoff. This qualifies the team to compete at the National Schools’ EquestrianChampionships, which will take place in October at Addington EquestrianCentre in Buckinghamshire.

Georgia Lovett has been selected for the 148 England Pony Show JumpingTeam, where she secured the Gold Medal position. She was also part ofthe England Team at the Welsh Home Pony Show Jumping in July, wherethey won Silver.

Fencing

The club has achieved the following: - 2 Gold, 7 Silver, 12 Bronze

Golf

The Golf team were Regional Winners of the HMC Foursomes Competition,beating Warwick, Rugby and Uppingham. The boys defeated Uppingham inthe final played at Stapleford Park, Melton Mowbray. The team consists ofMyles Deacon (Capt.), William Harland, Andrew Hooper, Stefan Gnyla,Rory Grogan and George Taylor. In the National Finals, played at TheWarwickshire Golf and Country Club, they came an impressive third in theStableford competition. In the ISGA competition the team lost to Rugby inthe Regional final, played at the Welcombe Golf and Country Club,Stratford upon Avon.

Cameron Pound was selected for the England U13 Ice Hockey Squad.

Netball

1st VII – Solihull Borough Champions and Runners Up in the WestMidlands South League. The 2nd VII finished as Runners-Up in the WestMidlands South Tournament.The U14 team were Runners Up in the Solihull League.The U13 team won the Solihull Tournament and were Runners Up in theLeague.The U12 team were Runners Up in the Solihull League.

Adina Bailey has recently been successful at a Regional Screening Day andwill attend regional screening this term.

Alice Hagyard has been selected to attend England U19 trials

Rounders

The U14 and U13 teams won the Borough Champions.The U12 team finished as runners-up in the Borough tournament, losingthe final by 1 rounder.

Skiing

The U16 Girls’ team won their age group and qualified for the EnglishChampionships at the ESSKIA qualifiers. In March at the Midland SchoolSki Championships the girls’ team were piped to first place by the nationalESSKIA boy’s championships but the U14 mixed team managed to wintheir age group. Elisabeth Thomas and Helena Newboult were fastest andthird fastest overall females on the day.

Amie Middleton, Libby Thomas, Hannah Shakeshaft and Helena Newboultnot only won their age groups, but were successful in becoming the fastestoverall girls team for the second year running. As well as this, two of ourcompetitors, Helena Newboult and Libby Thomas got picked for the CESAregional team.

At our latest race, at Telford, the team attained more outstanding results,achieving 8 individual medals, 4 team top three positions, and 3 teamtrophies. Congratulations go to;

Swimming

The Third Form Girls’ team were Solihull Borough Champions.

Abigail Humphries has gained a place on the ASA National TalentProgramme

Tennis

The U13 Team won the Solihull area round of the 2011 National SchoolsCompetition and will progress this term.

Alannah Griffin was crowned ‘Warwickshire Junior Tennis Player of theYear’, has represented the England team in the Four Nations Championshipand was part of the victorious GB Team at the IC World Championshipin Delhi.

Trampolining

Jessica Browne has been selected for the West Midlands Training Squad.She will compete for the West Midlands Regional Squad in October.

Solihull Secondary Schools’ Sports Federation Awards

They recognised the achievements of the following pupils for theircontributions and achievements throughout the last three years bothwithin the Borough and higher regional and national levels

Solihull Borough Boys Team of the YearThis award went to the 1st XV who went undefeated in all Saturdayfixtures last season, and whose only loss was the narrow defeat toWarwick in the last 32 of the DM.

DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S AWARDAND COMBINED CADET FORCE

CCF and D of E also thrived pupils have enjoyed fourteen different campswithin CCF and D of E programme. During the year pupils have beenawarded 26 Gold, 44 Silver and 36 Bronze medals D of E awards.

DRAMA

Throughout the year, weekly Drama Clubs were well attended byenthusiastic Lower School and Middle School pupils. Middle School DramaClub enjoyed the added benefit of a committed team of Sixth Formstudents who helped participants develop their acting and improvisationskills.

All Third Form pupils took the opportunity to perform in a House Dramacompetition at the end of their examination week. The theme was Secretsand with the help of Sixth Formers, each house put on a short entertainingpiece with IIIJ, under the guidance of Sixth Former Sean Cordelle, winningoverall.

The Christmas Term saw three productions. Lower School Drama Clubstarted the year with an ensemble production of Titanic by David Foxton,which was performed in the style of an Old Time Music Hall. This wasdirected by Mrs Wilde with the music being provided by Mr Cureton on thepiano. Nearly 100 pupils from the three Lower School year groups wereinvolved. Eva Penhallurick and Shona Eaton took charge of the stage as theComedienne and Master of Ceremonies. There were many effective cameoroles and Caroline Gerard gave us a rousing version of Rule Britannia.

Middle School presented an excellent production of the modern classicBlood Brothers by Willie Russell, directed by Miss Pike. There were manyaccomplished performances with Sam Foxall and Callum Fisher taking theroles of twins Mickey and Eddie. They and Lucy Rosier who played Lindashowed great skill in playing their characters as children and then as adults.Eleanor Thomas played Mrs Johnston with a convincing Liverpudlian accentand an excellent singing voice while Nicola Cronin engaged us as thetormented Mrs Lyons.

The Sixth Form production was a contemporary dress version ofShakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Tom Gerard and ElysiaPemberton were superb as Oberon and Titania; Katie Dobson, EmmaHodgkinson, Philippe Marks and Reuben Robyns Llandricombe wereexcellent as the confused lovers and although the play was mainly actedby Sixth Formers, Puck was superbly played by Upper Fifth student SallyFarrant.

In the Easter term Mrs Fair, with Mr Perrins, as Musical Director, directedstudents in the ever popular Grease which sold out every night. PhilippeMarks and Sarah Bradbury were Danny and Sandy and a record number ofSixth Formers took part in what was a fun filled, feel good production.

Finally, in the last week of the school year, Lower School pupils had funputting on their own staged version of George Orwell’s Animal Farm. Theplay was performed to a packed house in the Old Music School. It hadpathos, humour, songs, a conga and puppets and was a great success. Itwas directed by Mrs Wilde; Mr Cureton provided musical accompanimentand Dr Jukes and Mr Hadley created an excellent set from hay bales andplastic sheeting!
