Solihull Neighbourhood in Bloom – Silver Schools Award for Damson Wood Nursery
and Infant School This year, Damson Wood Nursery and Infant School entered the schools category of Solihull Neighbourhood in Bloom for the first time, and were delighted to win a Silver Award! Children, staff and parents were involved in the activities which included a Gardening Club, run by Mrs Jones, and Eco group, growing their own vegetables and fruit for use in the school dinners, as well as creating a sensory garden with help from staff at Touchwood. They have created a nature area which offers a haven for wildlife, as well as a storytelling area, weather station and bug hotel. Miss Hughes, Head of School, said, ‘We were delighted to be recognised by Solihull Neighbourhood in Bloom with this award. It is a fitting celebration of the gardening culture which has been developed over many years at Damson Wood. The wellies around school which were planted with flowers looked stunning but also provided a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to engage with the outdoor environment as they went on a Welly Hunt around school. Well done to the staff and children at Damson wood, of whom we are so proud.’ On Monday last week, Sarah Cole, School Business Manager, represented Damson Wood at the Solihull Neighbourhood in Bloom presentation evening.
