“Chip-In” 2010! Scrap Tires are an issue for every county in the re- gion and the state. In the last few years the Solid Waste Grants Program has been working with State Rubber and Environmental Solutions in Denver City, Texas to recycle scrap tires. Program Grants have provided funds to purchase collection/storage trailers for communities. Tires are col- lected from residents and stored inside a weather- proof trailer until 1500+ build-up. At that point, the Public Works Staff contact Elizabeth Thomas at the PRPC to request an ex- change with the recycler. State Rubber brings the community an empty trailer and takes the full back to Denver City for recycling. The recycled rubber is used for sport and playground surfaces and pet toys. Recently, The High Plains Resource Conservation and Development Office received funds to assist communities in certain counties with costs associated with scrap tire clean-up; including the pur- chase of collection/storage trailers and the exchange fees, which allow communi- ties to hold amnesty events. The counties eligible for these funds are: Hutchin- son, Hansford, and Moore Counties. There is no application process. Just call for assistance! Scrap Tires are an issue for every county in the re-gion and the state. In the last few years the Solid Waste Grants Program has been working with State Rubber and Environmental Solutions in Denver City, Texas to recycle scrap tires.

Program Grants have provided funds to purchase collection/storage trailers for communities. Tires are col-lected from residents and stored inside a weather-proof trailer until 1500+ build-up. At that point, the Public Works Staff contact Elizabeth Thomas at the PRPC to request an ex-change with the recycler.

State Rubber brings the

community an empty trailer and takes the full back to Denver City for recycling. The recycled rubber is used for sport and playground surfaces and pet toys.

Recently, The High Plains Resource Conservation and Development Office received funds to assist communities in certain counties with costs associated with scrap tire clean-up; including the pur-chase of collection/storage trailers and the exchange fees, which allow communi-ties to hold amnesty events.
