The Indian Renewable Energy sector is progressing rapidly.

Installed grid connected renewable power generation

capacity of India has reached to about 25 GW. This is more

than 12% of the total installed capacity base of the country.

The demand for power has been increasing in India due to

the growth in the country’s economy. Over the last 10 years,

energy and peak demand shortage averaged around 10.3%

and 12.9% respectively. In meeting this growing demand,

renewable energy is playing an ever increasing role.

The availability of abundant solar energy has prompted

policy makers of the country to frame favourable policies

and regulations to develop the solar energy resources. India

has today an aggregate capacity of over 1 GW, that are

generating around 1600 million units in a year, in sharp

contrast to the estimated potential of 50,000 MW.

This is only just the beginning. The various bidding rounds

issued by the national and state governments have been met

with unprecedented enthusiasm from national and

international players. The number of projects is continually

growing and India's pipeline is expanding explosively. By

2017, India is expected to have 10 GW of installed solar PV

capacity. Some experts have predicted that this base will hit

20 GW by 2022.

The present central and state policies for Solar Energy is

developing favourable conditions and various new business

models are emerging which reinforce the exponential

market growth for solar projects. The current opportunities

are attracting intense excitement from entrepreneurs and

investors to be a part of the solar growth story of India. .

The proposed workshop will provide insights into the solar

power projects development guiding the participants

through the bidding, feasibility assessment, evaluating

regulatory options, site selection, technology selection,

financing in a systematic step-by-step approach.

International and Indian case studies will focus on SPV for

grid connected. The workshop will be conducted by some of

the most experienced industry professionals.

The specific objectives of the workshop are to understand;

What is the outlook for solar power development given

the current policies and regulations at the centre and the

states? What is the trajectory of solar power capacity additions

and its impact on the Indian solar market? What are the different financial models and benchmarks

to assess the project viability? How to select an appropriate SPV technology which

meets the local site requirements and realise the

maximum yield and returns for a developer? What are the different steps followed during planning as

well as implementation for solar power plants? What are the statutory clearances and approvals

required for solar projects and the related agencies with

which the solar developer needs to interact? What are the key risks and challenges during

implementation of a solar PV plant? What are the different financing options for solar

projects in India? What are the criteria on which lenders assess the

project?

The workshop will provide a good overview and

understanding of the complexities and risks of the solar

energy sector in India and will equip the participants with a

practical insight into those issues.
