Professional ProfileDr. Marc VERMEERSCH is the newly appointed Managing Director of SPERC. Dr. VERMEERSCH brings to KAUST histechnological and business experience in solar energy and engineering; he joins the team to contribute to make SPERC thereference Center in solar energy research and engineering in the Kingdom and a premier worldwide research and educationalresource in solar energy research and engineering.
Before joining KAUST, Dr. Marc VERMEERSCH has been working for more than eight years for the French oil and gascompany TOTAL where he has been the founder of the solar research and development group from 2006 to 2012; afterhaving catalyzed the major investment in SunPower corporation, he then took the position of Senior Advisor in SolarTechnologies and Strategy.His background is in solid-state physics and materials science; Dr. VERMEERSCH also completedhis expertise with a postgraduate qualification in Management and Business Administration.
Prior to joining TOTAL, he had been working for more than ten years for the French Group Saint-Gobain, first in the researchand development for advanced thin-film deposition processes as well as products for building and automotive applications,and later in the industrial scale-up and transfer processes from lab to production. In Saint-Gobain, he also worked atinitiating a new technical and marketing approach in the innovation process and the product development via envelopedynamics simulation and sensitivity to product and system properties, as well as building regulation requirements.
