EndNoteWeb Tutorial
Part 11 – Cite While You Write
***Note: To make use of the Cite While You Write feature of EndNote Web, you must also use
the Microsoft Word program.
1.) Go to http://endnoteweb.com
2.) Click on the upper-right hand corner where it says “Login to EndNote Web”.
3.) Enter you SUA email address and password. If you do not have an EndNote Web account
yet, please refer to the “Register for EndNote Web Tutorial”.
4.) Locate the “Options” tab:
5.) Once you click on the “Options” tab, locate and select the “Download Installers” link.
Select “Download Installers”:
6.) The following page will appear. Under the “Cite While You Write” section, locate the
“Download Windows”, “Download Windows MSI”, and “Download Macintosh” links.
Select the download that is compatible with your system. For the purposes of this tutorial,
we will be selecting “Download Windows”.
7.) The following plug-in will download at the bottom of your browser’s window:
8.) Double click on this download. The following pop-up window will appear. Select “Run”:
9.) Next the “EndNote Plug-Ins Installer” window will appear. Wait until it is done
“Searching for installed applications…”:
10.) Once it is done “Searching for installed applications…” the EndNote Plug-Ins
Installer window will welcome you to the EndNote Plug-Ins Installer and prompt you to
select the “Next” button:
11.) Following the welcome window you will see the “Registration Information”
window. Make sure the Name box has the following value: SUA_Windows7. The
Company box should list “Soka University of America”. Select “Next”:
12.) Select the Default in the “Set Server” window. Select “Next”:
13.) In the “Select Destination” window the “Destination Folder” should be
“C:\Program Files\EndNote Web\”. Select “Next”:
14.) In the “Select Features” window make sure “Capture Plugin for Internet
Explorer” is selected. Hit “Next”:
15.) In the “Ready to Install the Application” window, select “Next”:
16.) The following “Updating Systems” window will appear. Wait until the update is
completed.
17.) Once the update is completed, the following EndNote Plug-Ins has been
successfully installed” window will appear. Select “Finish” to exit:
Inserting Citations into Microsoft Word using Cite While You Write
1.) Now that you downloaded the EndNote Web Plug-In, it is time to open up the Word
document you would like to insert your citations into. To do this, place your cursor in
the exact location of your Word document where you would like the citation to be
located:
2.) With your cursor in place, locate and click on the “EndNote Web” toolbar located in
the top row of tabs of your Word document:
3.) If you aren’t already logged in to your EndNote Web in the Internet Explorer
browser, you may be prompted to log-in at this time:
4.) Once you are logged in, locate the “Insert Citation” button on the “Endnote Web”
toolbar:
5.) Select “Insert Citation”. The following citation search box will appear on your screen.
This box allows you to search all of your saved EndNote Web citations. For the
purposes of this tutorial, let’s search for all of our saved articles in EndNote Web that
are about “dog”. Once you select “Find”, all of these articles will be listed within the
window.
6.) Locate the article you would like to insert into your Word document. Click on the
article so that it is highlighted in blue. Select “Insert”:
7.) Once you have selected “Insert” your citation will be inserted into your Word
document and its full citation will be listed at the end of the document:
***Please Note: The EndNote Web toolbar allows you to do many things within your Word
document. This includes changing the citation style, updating, editing, and converting your
citations and bibliography and more. For any questions or assistances regarding these
additional features of the EndNote Web toolbar, please see a reference librarian.
