    ERT 349 SOIL AND WATER ENGINEERINGDESIGN PROJECT

    DESIGN PROJECT

    A farmer intended to develop 1 ha plantation near Padang Besar, Perlis. As consultant, you are assigns

    to advice the farmer with the design project for irrigation and water resources management . The

    crops are:

    1. For hilly area plantation (strawberry) Group Gellisols2. For Greenhouse planted with chili plant by Overhead Sprayer-Aridisols

    3. Greenhouse planted with tomato plant with drip tape-Mollisols

    4. For field crop (maize) with sprinkler

    5. For hybrid rice with surface irrigation-Vertisols

    6. For hybrid rice with terraces irrigation-Oxisols

    7. For okra plantation with furrow -Alfisols

    8. Subsurface irrigation for Roselle - Histosols

    9. Nursery irrigation for palm oil tree - Entisols

    10. For tree crops plantation - Ultisols

    Includes in your report:

    1. Soil map for an area found that suitable for plantation.

    (Scaled drawing)

    a. Locate all existing structures, drainage, river, vegetation, etc.

    b. Indicate north on the drawing

    c. Types of soil in the farm sites (Collect at least 4 soil samples from different location on

    the site)

    2. Design an erosion and sediment control plan (ESCP)

    3. Design a drainage and irrigation system for your plantation (open channel and irrigation)
