Position Title: Software Systems Engineering Project ManagerPosition Number: 22233

Job Location: San Diego, CA

As an Engineering Project Manager in the VAIO Division, you will coordinate project activities andschedules amongst Engineering, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, ProductPlanning, Marketing, Service, and Support personnel. This includes driving new software productintroduction programs from project initiation through delivery, interfacing with internal stakeholderson all matters. In conjunction with the functional departments, create the product requirementsdocument and schedule that will be used as a tool in making decisions on how and when the produor service will be implemented. Develop relationships with multiple managers (includingdevelopment, product planning, marketing, and service managers) and provides them with technicaanalytical, and process related information. Organize cross functional activities ensuring completioof the program on schedule and within budget constraints. May manage multiple projects and mayoversee others. The candidate, in addition to being detail oriented, must have strong project

management and communication skills, a software development background, and strongorganizational skills. This candidate should be able to speak with confidence about existing and netechnologies. This individual must be extremely articulate, comfortable with speaking in front of audiences, and be able to communicate effectively with both technologists and lay people.

Specific tasks can include product definition, risk definition and risk management, coaching andmentoring peers, scheduling, contract negotiations, management of external engineering partners,specification reviews, strategic direction participation, project budget management, and reviewingnew technologies for possible applications.

The ideal candidate will be able to develop, monitor, and report on detailed program plans andschedules with minimal assistance. Lead a cross functional program team ensuring regular meetingwith all affected team members, frequent and concise communication, documentation of the prograthroughout development, and driving resolution of program issues. As appropriate working with allthe teams, update program schedules and work with senior management to balance resources.Manage distributed software development programs. Manage risks to the programs (prepare detairisk analysis and monitor contingency/mitigation plans). Handle program change managementprocesses. Meet or beat program deliverables for schedule and budget. Communicate programstatus to senior management and regularly (as appropriate) communicate with/to engineeringmanagement. Analyze impacts of potential new requirements on programs and work withengineering technical leads and operations to reduce software development time costs. Coordinateand manage products developed through Sony and its partners. Must be willing to travel within theUS, Europe and Asia (approximately 10-20%).

New Job Openings• BA/BS degree in Engineering or Computer Science plus a minimum of 7 years of related

engineering experience to include a minimum of 1-3 years of project management experienc

• In lieu of degree, must have a minimum of 15 years of related engineering experience to

include a minimum of 5 years of project management experience in software projects

• An advanced Computer Science or Engineering degree is desired

• Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills, and the ability to establish strongworking relationships at all levels with internal and external parties are also needed

• Strong leadership and ability to build teamwork and mutual respect with all internal andexternal stakeholders is required

• Strong sense of program/project ownership and ability to work independently or in a teamenvironment with minimum supervision

Must have good organizational and time management skills

• Must be comfortable working with multi-level management and Technical Engineering staff personnel on a daily basis

• Experience with software development processes and tools

• Experience with scrum/agile development. Scrum master certification is desired

• Experience with user experience/interface software development is necessary

• Experience with customer facing website development is very helpful

•

Experience with working within or interfacing with a computer OEM is desired• Experience with MS Office and MS Project is a must

• Experience in Manufacturing Operations is helpful
