Software Feature Comparison Sales / Debtors A tool created by ICB to allow the Bookkeeper to capture all the business processes of their client and then compare against the various software providers. Welcome to the first instalment in our software feature comparison project. It is a big undertaking to compare the features of the main software players. We are comparing the main products of 5 companies: MYOB, Intuit, Reckon, Xero and Saasu. Our process has been firstly to assess in-house against a basic list of features. As we compare the products, the feature list grows and the list goes back and forth a couple of times as we seek further information or clarification about a particular feature or product. Then we seek external input from the software companies, and refine and finalise the list. We see this as being a valuable tool to help you assess products on their own merits and independent of the marketing material published by the software companiesnot that there is anything wrong with their information, just that we hear from our members that it can be hard to compare “apples with apples”—so this tool is designed to help you make that comparison more easily. Our intention is to compare different parts of the bookkeeping process in turn. This month it is Sales, next month will be Purchases, followed by Payroll. In future months we will look at banking, chart of accounts, BAS, analysis and other areas. All up it will likely take us until August to cover all areas of bookkeeping processes in the software products. We remind you of related ICB information on selecting software for your clients, checklists for software choices, and our previous list of compulsory items which was the start of this whole process. If you notice that we have something incorrect, have missed something or would just like to let us know your feedback, please email [email protected]

Software Feature Comparison – Sales / Debtors

A tool created by ICB to allow the Bookkeeper to capture all the business processes of their client and then compare against the various software providers.

Software Feature Comparison - Payroll

.

A tool created by ICB to allow the Bookkeeper to capture all the business processes of their client and then compare against the various software providers. Welcome to the next instalment in our software feature comparison project. It is a big undertaking to compare the features of the main software players. We are comparing the main products of 5 companies: MYOB, Intuit, Reckon, Xero and Saasu.

The payroll feature comparison is complicated and large. More than in other areas we see that the naming protocols used by different software companies can be confusing. We have done our best to use generic or well-known terms and also done our best to compare features that may be named differently but are in fact the same function.

Also there are more areas of variation and flexibility, where the answer is not necessarily a “yes or no” but may be conditional.

Payroll is also an area that is being continually updated and therefore it is worth checking with the software companies directly if there is a particular feature you require that is not included in this spreadsheet, because it may be something that has been included in a subsequent release or update of the product.

This month we have had input directly from MYOB, Intuit, Reckon and Saasu.

We have extracted a small sample of the comparison chart below - Please visit the website for the full introduction to the comparison list and to download a copy of the complete spreadsheet.

Software Feature Comparison - Inventory .

A tool created by ICB to allow the Bookkeeper to capture all the business processes of their client and then compare against the various software providers.

In the April 2014 newsletter we release the Inventory functions comparison.

Thank you to the people who have responded with feedback on the previous features comparison we started with in January. The list has been updated accordingly.

This month we have had input directly from MYOB, Intuit, Reckon and Saasu for information on Inventory.

There is a lot of difference between the software offerings in the inventory features. Some software companies offer products specifically geared towards inventory management that are not included in our product comparison, and other companies offer add-on solutions for greater detail and control that will integrate with the accounting software.
