Welcome to the sixth annual Murri Women’s Softball Tournament. This year the tournament is hosted by Caboolture Sports Softball Association. The tournament started with 6 teams in 2014 and in 2019 we welcome 17 teams across 4 divisions. Softball is a sport that has a proud history of participation and achievement by Indigenous women. Besides providing an avenue to be active and healthy, this tournament creates an opportunity to celebrate Murri women, to share their stories and demonstrate pride in their culture. This is a unique softball event in that teams are formed based on community/family/friendship groups and not through a sporting club structure. The competing teams comprise family and friends who have gathered from all over the country to spend time with their sisters playing sport. Softball Queensland is committed to growing the Murri Women’s Softball Tournament and is developing a Strategic Plan which will inform and guide the growth of the tournament. We look forward to welcoming more teams in 2020 and beyond. Thank you to Caboolture Sports Softball Association for their hard work and effort in hosting the tournament and of course, a sporting event wouldn’t be possible without umpires and scorers. Thank you to all officials and volunteers who contribute to making this event so special. Thank you to the Murri Women’s Tournament Stakeholder Reference Group for your support. Your guidance and knowledge is invaluable and ensures we are able to deliver a tournament that meets the needs of the participants. We’d also like to take this opportunity to recognise and say thank you to the team organisers and everyone who has supported, advised and helped in any way over the past five years to make this tournament possible. Best of luck to everyone involved this weekend. We hope that you thoroughly enjoy the tournament, have fun, get some exercise and most of all, enjoy time with your family, community and friends.
