Our Soda Pop with a Cop program is very similar to Coffee with a Cop. Both programs bring police officers and the community members they serve together to discuss issues and learn more about each other. With all that is going on in the world, we found it important to provide an agenda-free, safe location for younger community members to interact with police officers.
This program encourages youth to build a relationship with law enforcement and see that the officers really are just normal people like the rest of us. During our events we provide the safe location, labor and staffing, beverages, and marketing.

Tips for Success
Communication
• In the past, Soda Pop with a Cop events have been coupled with a local speaker. They cover a variety of topics, from human trafficking to gang violence. In the event that you would like to include this at your event, we recommend reaching out to the local District Attorney. Please keep in mind that your audience should be high school age or older. This will affect promotions.
• ‘Like’ the Facebook page and/or Twitter account for your local Law Enforcement department. Ensure the department posts about the event. Note: In some cases when featuring speakers covering certain more mature topics such as human trafficking or gang violence the event should only be promoted to community partners such as schools, local businesses, etc.
• Encourage guests to tweet or post about the event - include appropriate McDonald’s social media accounts in tweet/post
Day of Event
• Previous events have not required additional staffing. It is recommended that the restaurant Owner/Operator and/or Supervisor be in attendance in the dining room during the event to interact with police officers and guests.
• A member of law enforcement should stand near the entryway and welcome guests into the restaurant. Open the door, welcome the guest to McDonald’s and ask if they would like a free soda and the opportunity to meet with a local officer.
• If available, position a member of law enforcement in the drive-thru window to present orders to guests.
