“Recognition by experts in my field is humbling and it reignites my motivation to continue working hard towards accomplishing my career goals.”
—Sumira Phatak, BS Utah State University Dharm V. Singh Carcinogenesis Award Recipient
Letter from the ChairDear Colleague:
The mission of the Society of Toxicology (SOT) Endowment Fund, in existence for nearly 15 years, is to assist in advancing the science of toxicology by providing financial support for the Society’s programs. We enable this mission through the generous contributions of SOT members, their families, and friends. The mission is realized by funding awards and other programs that achieve the Society’s strategic objectives. I am pleased to present a report demonstrating the Endowment Fund’s continued growth over the last fiscal year, the important ways students and other colleagues have benefited from your contributions, and the ways we use the Endowment Fund to create lasting impact for and by the SOT.
Growth has occurred in both the SOT Mission Funds administered by Council and the named funds administered largely by various component groups within the Society. During the 2018-19 fiscal year, the Endowment Fund Board approved five new named funds, the Yves Alarie Scholarship Fund, Dr. William M. Baird Travel Award Fund, Future of Regulatory and Safety Evaluation Endowment Fund, The Legacy Travel Award Fund, and the James A. Swenberg Carcinogenesis Merit Award Fund. These additions brought the total of named funds in the endowment to 48. We also reached another milestone, with the total value of the Endowment Funds exceeding four million dollars!
As this report and the more detailed information on the website demonstrate, your contributions are sustaining the growth of the Endowment Fund, and the proceeds of the fund are working for your intent. Please continue to contribute and recruit others to join the fellowship, by giving with you. The Endowment Fund is making a difference and supporting toxicology and our future leaders by advancing the strategic mission areas of the SOT.
On behalf of the Endowment Fund Board, thank you for your contributions!

“The SOT Endowment Fund provides an opportunity for donors to contribute to an activity that is important to them. In our case, my wife, Pat, and I have been heavily involved with students who are seeking degrees in toxicology. We are especially interested in supporting students of diversity and in helping them achieve their goals.”
