This year looks especially promising for SFA due to the exceptional quality of the newly elected officers, Board of Director members and non- board members who devote time and energy to the SFA mission. I want to congratulate the four newly elected Board of Director members: Doris Green, Nancy Patterson, Rosemarie McGowan, and Ron Webster. Following the December 8 Board meeting when the Board elected its officers for 2016, I emailed an announcement to all SFA members notifying everyone of the outcome of the election and giving a brief overview of the newly elected directors’ strengths and assignments on the Board. To recap briefly: 1) Doris Green will be taking over the editorship of our monthly newsletter; 2) Rosemarie McGowan will be our new Treasurer; 3) Nancy Patterson will be helping to arrange theater events and assist Howard Calvert with socials; and 4) Ron Webster will be involved in special assignments throughout the year. I also want to offer my special thanks to those on the Board, in addition to myself, who agreed to continue in their term of office and were re- elected at the Annual Meeting: Linda Dorethy, Ellen DuBiel, Carol Hasher, and Andria Mori. In addition, Howard Calvert will continue as Happy Hour/Social host and Joanne Handlong will continue to be involved with theater events and will also be our Vice President. continued p. 2

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all SFA members! This year looks especially promising for SFA due to the exceptional quality of the newly elected officers, Board of Director members and non-board members who devote time and energy to the SFA mission.

I also want to offer my special thanks to those on the Board, in addition to myself, who agreed to continue in their term of office and were re-elected at the Annual Meeting: Linda Dorethy, Ellen DuBiel, Carol Hasher, and Andria Mori. In addition, Howard Calvert will continue as Happy Hour/Social host and Joanne Handlong will continue to be involved with theater events and will also be our Vice President. continued p. 2

President’s Message - continued from page 1

I am honored to serve again as your President, and thank the Board of Directors for re-electing me to this position. I believe serving as your President last year provided me with a good foundation for continuing to work on the goals of Society of the Arts. I am excited about SFA’s prospects for 2016 and I am looking forward to working alongside this new Board of Directors.

I also want to thank the Board of Directors who were instrumental during my 2015 presidency. Without their dedication, loyalty and willingness to give of their time, I would not have been able to successfully serve as the president.

Lastly, I wish a healthy and happy 2016 to all SFA members. SFA could not exist without you. It takes each of you to help make SFA a successful organization. I encourage each of you to get involved in the activities and events scheduled for you during the year. Try participating in a different activity or event, meet new members and make new friends. Being a member of Society of the Arts promises to be a very rewarding experience if you get involved.

Cheryl Slobodnik, SFA President

Note to Members from Howard Calvert, Our Happy Hour Host

I love my job as your Happy Hour Host, but I need your help. Please be on the lookout for new and interesting HH sites. Janet and I are always searching for spots that might work for us ... but we can only do so much. If you visit an interesting restaurant, please give me a call (520-975-2802), or email me ([email protected]). Your input is valuable!

Notice that I have changed our meeting times to 4 pm because it makes it easier to find tables (especially popular spots), so that we can sit together. Many of these restaurants start their happy hours at 3pm and the seating areas fill up early. Currently we are enjoying 15-20 participants at each Happy Hour. The more who attend, the more fun we all have. Please join us at our next outing on January 7th at The Sangria Bar. —Hugs, Howard
