Program Overview

Immunodeficiency and dysregulation can predispose to as well as mimic hematolymphoid malignancy. Recognition of an underlying immune defect can pose significant challenges to the pathologist and be instrumental in guiding workup and therapy of affected pa-tients. The intersection of immunologic dysfunction and pathologic diagnosis is rapidly evolving as a result of recent advances in high-throughput genomic and proteomic technologies. The objectives of this workshop are to improve understanding of primary and secondary immunodeficiencies and disorders of immune regulation and refine diagnostic criteria surrounding immunodeficiency-related hematopoietic malignancy and their separation from immune-medi-ated morphologic mimics. This forum will specifically focus on pri-mary and secondary immunodeficiency and associated neoplasms, immune dysregulation including autoimmune, iatrogenic and viral-related lymphoproliferative disorders and post-transplant lym-phoproliferative disorders. In addition, distinguished speakers will share their insights into human immune senescence, hematopoietic stem cells and aging and high throughput strategies to interrogate lymphocyte repertoires in inherited and acquired immunodeficiency.

Educational Objectives

After attending the conference, partici-pants should be able to: • Appraise current WHO catego-

ries of immunodeficiency-related lymphoproliferative disorders, and identify areas of diagnostic difficulty (Knowledge, Competence, Performance)

• Correlate advances in molecular diag-nostics and the molecular pathogenesis of primary (congenital), post-trans-plant, infection-related, aging, autoim-mune and iatrogenic immunodeficien-cies and related lymphoproliferative disorders (Knowledge, Competence)

• Connect new clinical approaches to treatment and monitoring of patients with immunodeficiency-related lym-phoproliferative disorders to hemato-pathology practice (Knowledge, Com-petence, Performance, Patient Outcomes)

Target Audience

This conference is designed for physi-cians and other health professionals in hematopathology, pathology, hematology and oncology.

Educational Methods

Lectures, Case Studies, Questions and Answers, Audience Response System

Evaluation

A course evaluation form will provide participants with the opportunity to comment on the value of the program content to their practice decisions, performance improvement activities, or possible impact on patient health status. Participants will also have the opportu-nity to comment on any perceived com-mercial bias in the presentations as well as to identify future educational topics.

Accreditation/ Credit Designation

The Society for Hematopathology in partnership with the American Society for Clinical Pathology designates this live activity for a maximum of 20 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensu-rate with the extent of their participa-tion in the activity.

The American Society for Clinical Pathology is accredited by the Accredita-tion Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

CME Certificates and Attendance

Verification CertificatesCertificates awarding AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM or certificates docu-menting attendance will be distributed to participants when the participant departs the conference. To obtain a CME certificate, physicians must submit a completed evaluation questionnaire and a CME Verification Form. Upon request, a record of attendance (certificate) will be provided on–site to other health care professionals for requesting credits in accordance with state nursing boards, specialty societies, or other professional associations.

5.0 SAM CreditsThe Society for Hematopathology is partnering with the American Society for Clinical Pathology to provide American Board of Pathology (ABP)-approved Self-Assessment Module (SAM) credits. SAM credits are necessary to meet the ABP maintenance of certification require-ments. SAM credits will be available for this conference.

Lymphoproliferative disorders of primary (congenital) immunodeficiency• Lymphoproliferative neoplasms in the setting of chronic variable im-

munodeficiency (CVID), severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID), hyper-IgM syndrome, CD40/CD40 ligand deficiency, ataxia telangi-ectasia, autoimmune lymphoproliferative syndrome (ALPS), X-linked lymphoproliferative syndrome (XLP), chronic granulomatous disease (CGD), Nijmegen breakage syndrome (NBS) and related entities.

• Morphologic abnormalities or mimics of lymphoma in the setting of primary immunodeficiency or inherited immune disorders.

Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorders (PTLD) • Particular focus will be given to uncommon categories or controversial areas of

PTLD with the goal of achieving better definitions and criteria for diagnosis• Early lesions• Polymorphic PTLD and the border with monomorphic PTLD• EBV-negative PTLD• T-cell PTLD• Classical Hodgkin and Hodgkin-like PTLD

Infection-related lymphoproliferative disorders (excluding PTLD)• Lymphoproliferative disorders related to HCV,

HHV8 and other oncogenic viruses• HIV-associated lymphoma, with a focus on less common manifestations

(e.g. Burkitt with plasmacytoid differentiation, plasmablastic lymphoma)• Chronic active EBV (CAEBV)• EBV-positive T and NK cell lymphoproliferative disorders of childhood • Non-neoplastic complications of infection/ immunodeficiency-

related lymphoproliferative disorders (e.g. hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, macrophage activation syndrome)

Lymphoproliferative disorders related to autoimmunity, non-transplant iatrogenic conditions and aging • Autoimmune conditions including systemic lupus erythematosus, rheu-

matoid arthritis, and IgG4-related systemic sclerosing disease• Manifestations related to drugs (e.g. methotrexate) or biologic response

modifiers (e.g. interferon, TNF-alpha, G-CSF, monoclonal antibodies)• Other predisposing conditions (e.g. breast implants/seroma, lymphoma)• Aging and immune senescence (e.g. EBV+ lymphoproliferations
