KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

Colonel Chris HadfieldThe Sky is NOT the Limit

“Good morning, Earth.” That is how Colonel Chris Hadfield – writing on Twitter – woke up the world every day while living aboard the International Space Station

for over five months. Since blasting off from Kazakhstan in December 2012, Hadfield has become a worldwide sensation, harnessing the power of social

media to make outer space accessible to millions and infusing a sense of wonder into the collective consciousness not felt since man first walked on the moon.

Join us on Friday to experience a keynote address that is out of this world! Hadfield is the pioneer of many “firsts” in Canadian space history. In 1992, he

was among the first chosen as Canada’s second class of astronauts. Three years later, he became the first Canadian to use the Canadarm and the first Canadian

to board a Russian spacecraft during his mission to the Russian space station. In 2001, he performed two spacewalks as a mission specialist on STS-100, the first

Canadian to do so. In 2010, the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced Hadfield’s third mission:

commanding the International Space Station (ISS) – again a first for a Canadian.

Brian ThwaitsTrain Your BrainBrian Twaits shows people how to enhance their learning, communications, creativity, problem-solving and thinking skills. This entertaining “brainteaser” will tap into your mind to teach you some innovative and practical approaches to handling issues within the workplace and in your personal lives in fun and intellectual ways.

This year’s companions agenda gives you the best of both worlds! We’ve created a balanced agenda with lots of great program activities mixed with just the right amount of free time to discover Ottawa on your own.

Kick-start the meeting with Pub Night on Tuesday. On Wednesday, join fellow companions for High Tea in the lounge of the Fairmont Chateau Laurier. Select from over 40 different teas and enjoy a variety of canapés, sandwiches and sweets. Later that afternoon, lace up your skates and join all meeting attendees on The Rideau Canal as you enjoy a cinnamon and sugar BeaverTail and hot cocoa. After a leisurely skate, sample some finger foods and refreshments at the Opening Reception with exhibitors.

Start your day right on Thursday with a private yoga class followed by a classic breakfast at your leisure at Wilfrid’s Restaurant. After breakfast, hop on our private coach for a culinary experience you can only get in Paris. OSSGA is taking you to world-renowned cooking school and restaurant Le Cordon Bleu where you will take a culinary class and enjoy a delicious meal prepared by some of the best chefs from around the world. Your afternoon is free to explore all the great things Ottawa has to offer. Later that evening, you are invited to attend the Chair’s Dinner and Show.

On Friday morning, enjoy breakfast at your leisure again at Wilfrid’s, then take the morning off. But don’t wander too far – you won’t want to miss our keynote speaker, Colonel Chris Hadfield, who will take you on a journey that is out of this world!
