Social protection and its financing • In 2012, social protection expenditure in Finland amounted to

EUR 60.0 billion. In real terms, the expenditure grew by 3.0 per cent.

• Per capita expenditure amounted to EUR 11 086.

• More than one third of social protection expenditure was spent on services and pensions related to old age (EUR 22.1 billion). The second laregest function was Sickness and health care representing EUR 14.8 billion.

• In 2011, the EU average for social protection expenditure in relation to GDP was 29.1 per cent.

• Employers amounted for 34.8, state 27.6, local authorities 19.2, insured 12,5 and others 5.8 per cent of the social protection financing.
