Members On

The Move

Pastor John and

Rina Johnson are

moving from

Mount Holly to Skillman, NJ, to live with their

son Paul and his family.

The Johnsons have a lot of "stuff" that they

can't take with them and would like to give it to

people from St. Paul's who could put it to good

use. That includes living room and dining room

furniture, kitchen stuff, 5x8 rugs and other

assorted "stuff". They invite interested people

to contact them at 609-261-6551 to arrange a

visit for perusal. If something is claimed, John

and Rina ask that a donation be made to Bridge

of Peace Lutheran Church in Camden.

Sock it to Me Sunday

Through the winter months the number one item that the homeless ask for is warm socks!!! On the weekend of January 28 and 29, we are collecting socks for our neighborhood Code Blue facility at the Extended Hand. We are also asking for new kids and ladies socks. The children’s socks will go to the neighborhood schools and Bridge of Peace along with the women’s socks. Look for the giant Sock in the Narthex.

St. Paul’s Signature Quilt

In 1938, our church members created a quilt with approximately 718 names of members and friends of our church. It was made to raise money for the church and by charging $.25 for each signature they raised $179.50. The names were hand embroidered in a ‘wheel wagon’ pattern with each of the 42 squares having approximately 17 names. It was once a very popular way used by churches to raise money.

The quilt was originally given to Reverend Birx, who was our minister at that time, and his wife Harriet. When Pastor Birx and his family left, the quilt traveled with them to churches in Hamilton, Union Town, Sparrows Point, Sharpsburg, and Hagerstown Maryland. When Pastor Birx died, Harriet moved to an apartment and the quilt went to the home of her daughter Anne where it remained until 2013.

In 2013, Anne (Birx) Nix donated the quilt back to St. Paul’s. Her only request was that we have the quilt valued. Kathleen Johnson found an appraiser for the American Quilter’s Society who verified and documented the age, condition and details of the quilt and established the value at $525.00.

This quilt is now on display in the Narthex as part of our 150th anniversary celebration.

It is fragile so we ask that as you view it – please do not touch it.

Winter Coat Drive Did Santa get you a new coat? Do you have trouble closing your Hall closet door? Are your children growing out of their jackets even before the season is over? On the weekend of January 14 and 15 we will be collecting winter coats. These coats will be donated to the Caring Center in Pem-berton, where they will help out the homeless and less fortunate in our area. The children's coats will be donated to Bridge of Peace in Cam-den to help the needy children who accompa-ny their parents at their Food Pantry who are in need of a coat.

Mitten Tree

The Christmas tree will remain in the narthex for January and February and

maybe March to receive donations of mittens, gloves, hats, scarves and children’s socks to donate to those in the area who can use them.

Let’s keep the tree full!

What can a soda can tab do? Help Children’s Hospital!

Please take a moment to remove your soda can tabs before you recycle, bring them to church, and deposit them in the container in the narthex. The tabs will be donated to CHOP (Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia). If you have questions, please see Joyce Alexander. Thank you!
