SOCIAL INCLUSION: CYCLING FOR ALL
Case of Mare Neighborhood
in Rio de Janeiro
Rio Capital de Bicicleta Municipal Public Policy
• Cycle ways jumped from 150 km to 450 km (2009-2016)
• Integrated with mass public transport
• Bottom up cycling planning

• Project with political and neighborhood aproval.
• Demand calculated and forecasts based on local knowledge
• Less political friction during the execution stage.
Important to realize
Nobody is against new bike infrastructure or against interventions that improve the quality of life in their neighborhoods......
They are only dissapointed when they didn´t have the oportunity to be involved in the project
How do we measure the success of the interventions: if mothers and children go out on the street to cycle
