This year, the Central Coast Innovation Summit will be held on the 13th June 2013. On the back of two highly successful summits in the past two years this year’s summit will explore new ideas and models that capitalise on the next wave of innovation. The theme is “Catching the Next Wave of Innovation: A Resource Efficient Digitally Connected Community”.

The Summit takes its theme from the book “The Sixth Wave “by James Bradfield Moody and Bianca Nogrady. THE SIXTH WAVE is a popular business book built around extensive research with predictions and a roadmap to the future and explores how to succeed in a resource-limited world. The summit will explore the opportunity of coupling sustainability with digital technology to create “a resource efficient digitally connected community”. The key is to work out how to take advantage of such opportunities.

The summit will host nationally renowned speakers from the Carbon Climate institute, Carbon Arts and the University of Newcastle. There will be a special guest appearance from the author James Moody. It will also showcase local organisations that have adopted sixth wave thinking in their business practices!

The summit will be held at Mingara on Thursday 13th June from 8.30 am until 12 noon. Registration for the event is now open. More information can be found at www.innov8central.com.au. or by contacting Innov8Central on 4349 4953.

Showcase:The Coolamon on Green Central

The Coolamon on Green Central is a social enterprise initiative of Youthconnections.com.au. It is a café that is managed and operated by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The Coolamon is a friendly, community oriented venue, located at Kariong, and offers great coffee along side a beautiful selection of morning tea, lunches and afternoon teas. It is also a training café that hosts young people from alternative education programs, disability programs, structured work placement and work experience students.

Café manager Hayley Hardcastle says “The Coolamon is a unique business that incorporates a training facility for students to gain skills and confidence without the pressure of a normal café. We give students the support they need until they are ready to handle the intensity of a mainstream café.”

The Coolamon boasts an organic garden that provides an abundance of fruit and vegetables which is harvested daily for use in the café. The staff at the Coolamon also provide catering for functions, business breakfasts, work lunches and morning teas. The Café is open from 8.00am to 3.00pm Monday to Friday and all are welcome.
