    What does an IEP have to do with social and communication learning strategies?

    An IEP, or Individualized Education Plan, outlines a set of goals for the student

    to work towards achieving. Some examples of these goals are: The student

    -raise their hand and wait to be called on before talking aloud in group settings

    -appropriately acknowledge an interaction initiated by others by giving an

    appropriate response, either verbal or nonverbal.

    What kinds of assistive technologies are available for learners with social and

    -Sign language

    -Graphic reference sheets

    -Guided worksheets

    -Exaggerated gestures that capture learners attention

    -iPads and computers (speak to text)

    How can collaboration help you with social and communication learning

    strategies?

    -Encourage parents as much as possible during the IEP process

    -Set similar (or the same) goals for at school and at home to encourage overall

    growth and to prevent confusion

    -Teachers should keep professionals and family updated and share progress

    with one another

    -All parties should have similar expected communication skills in class and at

    home
