Beauty flash-BACK! Soap & Glory has been a successful high street brand for the last ten years. But how did it all begin?

"The idea for Soap and Glory came from simply walking down a London high street."

360SHARES

Proud creator of Soap & Glory, Marcia Kilgore, had an eye for business from a young age. Like most girls, she had a keen interest in beauty and decided to take a course in skincare alongside her degree. Bad skin and acne was a problem for Marcia, which inspired her to help herself and other young teens experiencing the same problem.

NEW YORK - 1993

In New York, 1993, she opened her first mini-spa called ‘Let’s Face It’.

BLISS SPA - 1996

The company grew bigger and bigger, expanding to ‘Bliss Spa’ in 1996. Her brand became so big that she started to get a following from celebrities, such as Oprah and Madonna (how fancy!)

LONDON - 1999

She claimed the idea for Soap & Glory came from simply walking down a London high street and feeling inspired. The vision was to create a more affordable brand for ladies, with the products having eccentric packaging. This led to the creation ‘The Land of Soap & Glory’ in 1999.

WELCOME TO BOOTS

In 2011, UK store, Boots bought a minority stake in Kilgore’s affordable beauty business, it seemed everybody wanted a bit of Soap & Glory!

After ten years of perfecting her flirty brand, Marcia sold her empire onto Boots in 2014 and says she is extremely “proud” of the company she created.

MOVED TO LONDON - 1997

In 1997, She sold Bliss Spa for a reported fortune of $25 million and later moved to England to start a new adventure.

AWARDED BRITAIN’S BEST - 2008

Marcia and the Soap & Glory girls began inventing quirky names for her brand, such as the classic products, ‘Sexy Mother-Pucker’ and ‘Glow Job’. After an incredible few years, in 2008 ‘The Righteous Butter’ picked up an award for being ‘Britain’s Best’ by The Times.

PRESENT DAY

The future of Soap & Glory is set to be as glorious as the history of it. New products are constantly being created, now including a popular cosmetics range, which is available in all Boot stores in the UK. How exciting!

BEAUTY TALKS: Lauren Eziekiel

"SOAP & GLORY Is a brand that both the mother and daughter can bond over."

Fabulous magazine beauty editor, Lauren Eziekiel, is the ultimate fairy god mother when it comes to beauty advice. Her job is to advise her 3.1 million weekly readers, on anything from contouring to the best moisturising products. What makes her even more amazing is that she’s a huge Soap & Glory fan, which is just one more reason to love her.

We stopped off at the Fabulous office for a coffee and chat with Lauren. She gave us an insight into her top beauty secrets, the makeup trends she is loving right now, and her favourite beauty products from our range.

As we approach the Fabulous beauty desk we are overwhelmed by the amount of products we see. For a moment we think maybe Santa has come early!

So Lauren, what make up trends are you currently loving right now?

“I really love the highlighting trend, the key is to keep the skin looking fresh and dewy, without the make-up appearing too heavy. Also the latest foundations help to achieve flawless skin without it looking cakey. Now that it is getting closer to the Christmas season, the bold red lip paired with some classic shimmer eye shadow is another look that I cannot wait to wear.”

Oh we agree, if there is any time to go all out with the glitter eye shadow and statement lip it would have to be Christmas.

Do you have any favourite Soap & Glory makeup products that you use to create these looks?

“I love all Soap & Glory products, but I would have to say my favourite make up items are the ‘Kickass Concealer’ as well as the ‘Retouch Powder’. I use both of these products in my everyday makeup look and I would recommend them to anyone. They both offer high-end results for a low price. The ‘Kickass concealer’ instantly makes me look more awake, covering any bags with its light but effective coverage. The ‘Retouch Powder’ compliments the concealer giving the skin a flawless, yet natural finish.”

What Soap & Glory skin care products do you use for your skin type?

“I have dry to normal skin so I tend to stick to hydrating products that enhance, radiate and brighten skin. The ‘Speed Plump Super Moisture’ is a great moisturiser that energises and refreshes my skin. I also like the ‘Bright Here Bright Now Energy Boost Cream’, the cream is made from Aloe Vera and apricot kernel oil, which makes my face smell delightful, as well as feeling super soft.”

Do you have any top skin care tips that you live by?

“The main beauty tip that I recommend is to always cleanse your face morning and night. You will notice quickly the difference this makes to your overall skin condition within a few weeks. Avoid using a facial scrub with large grains, the skin is far too thin and it can be too harsh. Instead, try using an acid-based exfoliator, this is a much better option especially if you have sensitive skin.”

What do you think makes Soap & Glory individual and unique, compared to other similar beauty brands?

“I love Soap & Glory because I feel that it is a brand that is suitable for all ages. The products are reasonably priced making them affordable for young girls. The brand also has anti-aging products available, making it suitable to an older audience. It is a brand that both the mother and daughter can bond over, which is why I think makes it so special and unique.”

HOST A SOAP & GLORY PAMPER PARTY

If you’re looking for an easy way to host your own Soap & Glory pamper party, then look no further. Here’s five top tips on the products you need, and the steps to take for a perfect girl’s night in.

WHAT WILL YOU NEED: • Off Your Face Cleansing Cloths: £4.50• The No Clogs Allowed Face Mask: £11.50• Bright And Beautiful Energy Boosting: £13

Radiance Serum• Smooch Operator: £5• Sugar Crush Body Buttercream: £8

569SHARES

Grab the ‘Off Your Face Cleansing Cloths’ and make sure all make up is fully removed, leaving your face feeling fresh and fabulous.

Face masks are always an essential for a pamper party, so use our ‘No Clogs Allowed Mask’. This face mask naturally warms the skin and clears out any

impurities.

Or why not try ‘The Fab Pore’ which is a 2-in-1 purifying mask. Just rub it on to cleansed skin, wait for it to dry and peel away.

For a total transformation to dry, dehydrated, skin, apply the ‘Bright And Beautiful Energy Boosting Radiance Serum’ generously to your face. Not only will it take away any dark spots or redness, it also adds an instant brightness to your skin

through its energy boosting chemicals.

Dry lips are unavoidable during winter, so pass around ‘Smooch Operator’, our favourite lip butter, that is packed full of rejuvenating ingredients that will repair any

damage done.

‘Sugar Crush Body Buttercream’ is the final product you need to complete your pamper party. Apply this moisturiser from head to toe to leave your body feeling nourished and hydrated. This buttercream is scented with extracts of zesty lime

and sugary kiwi, which will leave you smelling, fabulous and fruity.

Don’t forget to take a selfie of your Soap & Glory pamper party and post it on to Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #GLORIOUSYOU.

Lou Lou's Vintage Fair

"I felt as if I'd just stepped off a Hollywood film set."

Britain’s number one vintage fair has been touring the nation - bringing stall upon stall of vintage clothing, accessories and entertainment to local towns. Glorious You’s, Paige Harvey, headed on down to Southampton’s Guildhall to check out the award-winning Lou Lou’s Vintage fair and their famous pop-up parlour.

Over in Lou Lou’s vintage beauty parlour, the ladies from Vintage Hair Lounge were busy prepping, primping and grooming their clients. Having already booked myself in for an appointment, I eagerly awaited my makeover.

My stylist, Sharon, gave me a choice of looks from the 1920’s to the 1960’s. Inspired by Soap & Glory, I opted for an iconic 50’s look. I watched in amazement as Sharon skilfully curled my hair, set it in rollers, and then backcombed it. She then fashioned it into victory rolls, by swiftly wrapping two sections of my hair around her fingers and twisting it backwards. Everyone knows that when it comes to 50’s pin-up girls, these rolls are a must!

The hair was just the beginning of my transformation. Now, for the make-up. Sharon was mastered in the skill of winged eyeliner, painting on two effortless-yet-perfect flicks – a statement style in those days. And to finish, she gave me a timeless red lip and tiny beauty spot. I felt as if I’d just stepped off a Hollywood film set.

After my retro revamp, I explored Lou Lou’s famous fair. Every element of the fair was as vintage as could be, from the clothes to the polka-dot table cloths in the tearoom. Tea and coffee were being served in cute tea cups made of old-fashioned China. Whilst a variety of cakes, biscuits and mini sandwiches sat prettily on display.

Soap & Glory girls look for any reason to get glammed up and Lou Lou’s Vintage fair is the perfect excuse. A team of highly trained professionals are ready to make you look and feel as gorgeous as Elizabeth Taylor.

Sam - Hello, I’m Sam Ahmed and I am the Publisher for Glorious You. I love all sorts of music and I’m a big football fan. My favourite Soap & Glory product has to be The Daily Soothe bath float – I’m a big kid at heart, so lots of bubbles is a must.

To navigate the “Meet the team” boxouts and read more about the Glorious You team, the user will tap the pink diamond located at the top right hand side of each image. One the user taps the pink diamond the user can click the x button to revert back to the landing page.

Alex - Hi! My name is Alex Walker and I am the Art Director for Glorious You. I’m a total clean freak who enjoys listening to pop/punk music. I swear by the Speed Plump All Day Super Moisturiser as it keeps my skin fresh and hydrated throughout the long working day.

Tasha - For the Glorious You, I am the art editor. My role involves helping out the art director in creating layout, alone with creating videos and image content. I have a range of hobbies I love to work on in my spare time such as reading, creative writing and drawing. My favourite soap and glory product is the Speed Plump, overnight moisture mousse. It gives me that clean and fresh feeling after a busy day.

Paige - “My role at Glorious You is assistant art editor, which involves helping get images and assisting photo shoots. My interests are film and photography and I enjoy reading magazines in my spare time. Supercat black eyeliner pen is a godsend but my favourite product has to be the righteous butter as I love the scent! I am a big fan of body butters but this one is my all time fave!”

Hannah - I am a sub-editor for Glorious You. My roles include ensuring all content for the publication is suitable and fits to the house style. Aside from beauty, my interests include music and art. My favourite product from Soap & Glory is the Hand Food cream.

Ameila - I really love everything makeup and beauty related. I’m always keen on trying new styles of makeup that I’ve seen and read about in magazines, but particularly enjoy trying different cosmetics for different occasions. Something that’s a must of mine is to have a chilled evening in, with a film and hot bubble bath. My favourite product is the Sexy Mother Pucker Lipstick as it has a collagen booster in it, which gives the perfect pout.

Kayla - I’m the editor of Glorious You. You’re likely to find me breaking a sweat in the gym during my free evenings if I’m not at home in my PJ’s, cuddled up with my cat. I’m a huge food enthusiast– I love eating out at different restaurants and trying out new, healthy recipes. But as healthy as I try to be, I can never resist the temptation of chocolate. It’s my weakness!

Chloe - My name is Chloe Grayson and I am the assistant editor of Glorious You. I enjoy shopping, watching beauty/lifestyle videos on YouTube and reading fashion blogs. I love pampering myself with Soap & Glory products and trying out different makeup looks using products from the range. I am also obsessed with everything Disney and like to refer to myself as Princess Jasmine.

Steph - My role at Glorious you is the social media editor. I have the responsibility of keeping our Soap & Glory fans up to date by giving you all the latest competition info and glory gossip via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. My favourite Soap & Glory product is the classic Righteous Body Butter; as it smells delicious and makes my skin feel nice and smooth!

LIFESTYLE Lauren Eziekiel

BEAUTY TALKS:

"SOAP & GLORY Is a brand that both the mother and daughter can bond over."

676SHARES Fabulous magazine beauty editor, Lauren Eziekiel, gave us an insight

into her top beauty secrets, the makeup trends she is loving right now, and her favourite beauty products from our range.

So Lauren, what make up trends are you currently loving right now?

Now that it’s getting closer to the Christmas season, the bold red lip paired with some classic shimmer eye shadow is a look that I cannot wait to wear.

Oh we agree, if there is any time to go all out with the glitter eye shadow and statement lip, it would have to be Christmas.

Do you have any favourite Soap & Glory makeup products that you use to create this look?

My favourite make up items are the ‘Kickass Concealer’ as well as the ‘Retouch Powder’. The ‘Kickass Concealer’ instantly makes me look more awake and the ‘Retouch Powder’ compliments the concealer giving the skin a flawless, yet natural finish.

What Soap & Glory skin care products do you use for your skin type?

The ‘Speed Plump Super Moisture’ is a great moisturiser that energises and refreshes my skin. I also like the ‘Bright Here Bright Now Energy Boost Cream’.

Do you have any top skin care tips that you live by?

Always cleanse your face morning and night and avoid using a facial scrub with large grains. Instead, try using an acid-based exfoliator, this is a much better option especially if you have sensitive skin.

What do you think makes Soap & Glory individual and unique compared to other similar beauty brands?

Soap & Glory is a brand that both mother and daughter can bond over, which is why I think it makes it so special and unique.
