God formed a people for himself by leading the Hebrew people, the descendants of Jacob, out of slavery in Egypt through the waters of the Red Sea.

He lead them through the wilderness and through the waters of the River Jordan into a promised land “flowing with milk and honey”.
Ethnically Hebrew,
Called through the Red Sea and the Jordan,
Marked out by circumcision and keeping the Law.

Jesus was baptised in the River Jordan by John the Baptist, as a sign of washing away of sin.

We are led out of wandering in the wilderness, through the River Jordan, into the promised land of the Kingdom of God.
