Our mission at Cornerstone Bible Fellowship is to help individuals become fully-devoted fol-lowers of Christ. But what does a fully-devoted follower of Christ look like? This is the sermon series that I am currently addressing.

Our church board has come up with the following five points that we desire our church family to spiritually grow in toward becoming fully-developed followers of Christ who follow His example in being salt and light. A fully-devoted follower of Christ will first know God through a genuine trusting relationship with Jesus Christ, where he/she is fellowshipping with the Lord and other believers on a regular basis. As we connect with the Lord, we also need relational connection and support from other followers of Christ. (John 1:12; Acts 2:44; Romans 12:5)

Second, followers of Christ must continually grow in spiritual maturity, so that each person and family is healthy spiritually. This happens best by connecting with others around God’s Word, such as in small groups and Sunday school, where digging deeper into God’s word and prayer takes place. This was modeled for us by Jesus’ spending time with His disciples. (Joshua 1:8; John 15:7; Mark 3:14; Phil. 4:6-7; Acts 2:42, 46)

Third, followers of Jesus are called and gifted to serve the body of Jesus Christ and others, where they use their gifts in the power and love of the Holy Spirit for ministry and stewardship. Their ministry(ies) could be with-in and/or outside of the church. (1 Peter 4:10; Rom. 12:7-9; Gal. 5:13; Eph. 2:10)

Fourth, followers of Christ will be witnesses in sharing the gospel of Christ to others through both their words and deeds, seeking to spend time with others in making disciples for Christ. (2 Tim. 2:2; Acts 1:8; Matt. 28:19-20; Matt. 4:19)

Fifth, followers of Jesus will magnify Christ in all they do as His worshipers, growing in godly character, integrity and faith in their attitudes and actions to please Him. They find life to be all about Jesus. (1 Cor. 10:31; 2 Cor. 5:9; Matt. 22:37-39; John 15:18; John 4:23-24; Rom. 12:1)

The ministry opportunities we do as a church family will help us grow toward Christlikeness as His fully-devoted followers. So, we hope you can participate in many of the activities as we grow together. Are you in a small group? If not, highly consider joining one. There are groups on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday nights, as well as women’s groups on Monday and Wednesday nights and Tuesday mornings. Men’s groups happen on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Are you helping somewhere in a minis-try? If not, then highly consider getting involved! We will on-ly have first service at 8:15am, then go out into our community to serve at 9:30am on that day.

Our Harvest Hayride fellowship gathering is always a joyful family fun event. Please plan to join us as we grow in loving fellowship as a church family, later on Sun. Nov. 3 at 5:30pm at Heritage Ranch Camp (two miles east of Dexter.) Please bring a snack to share. Hot dogs and marshmallows will be provided for roasting. Help Us Collect Labels and Box Tops for Children’s Haven International, Mexico

Please clip and bring Campbell’s labels (UPC/bar codes) and General Mill’s box tops to the church on the foyer countertop. We will send these at least monthly to the Children’s Haven Orphanage in Mexi-co for money for education for the children there. Please be careful when cutting them out, in fact, they don’t mind trimming them up if you’ll just bring the whole thing in! On the box tops, it’s important not to cut off the expiration dates and be on the look-out for “bonus certificates” that can be clipped in addi-tion to the regular little pink tab. With the labels, it’s actually the UPC/Bar Code, not the front panel that needs to be used. Lists of items which have the UPC codes and box tops are on the foyer bulletin board or you can go to the websites: labelsforeducation.com and Boxtops4education.com Thanks for making a differ-ence in the lives of these children!

Winfield Community Helping Hands Seeks Your Support

Winfield Community Helping Hands is a faith based organization currently supported by us-Cornerstone Bible Fellowship & First United Methodist, First Presbyterian and First Baptist. It’s mission is to assist those in dire need who have limited or no resources. It is working to enlist more support from local churches, organizations and individuals. One easy way to support Helping Hands is to use a Dillon’s Gift Card when shopping at Dillon’s, Kroger Stores or Kwik Shop. Five percent of all your purchases will be returned to our church by Dillons to send to Helping Hands. Your reloadable Dillons gift card must be purchased through our church. Cards cost $5 and come loaded with $5 worth of credit—there is no real cost to you. Cards are reloadable at the Dillon’s customer service counter. (The initial $5 does not receive credit to-wards the 5% returned, but all reloads do.) These cards could make great gifts and will still help those in need in our community. It costs you nothing to support Helping Hands if you use a Dil-lon’s Gift Card, purchased through our church. Helping Hands thanks you for your support! Cards will be available for purchase beginning in October in the foyer before and after wor-ship and at the church office during the week.

6:00pm Student Ministry Missions Focus

During this weekend, our student ministries will be participating in an 1,800 minute fast for missions.

Our whole church is encouraged to join in, seeking sponsors to raise support for our missionaries.

Guest Missionary: Pastor Mujahid el Masih

Pastor Mujahid el Masih comes to our Missions Conference from his home country of Pakistan, where 98 percent of the peo-ple are Muslims. Mujahid grew up as a Muslim and was in the Pakistan military. At the age of 25, Mujahid put his faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior and began to follow Him as Lord of his life. Mujahid then sensed God’s call into full time ministry and he began a church. Over the years, twenty-four more churches were planted in Pakistan through Pastor Masih. However, on February 6, 1997, thousands of Muslims burned down 13 Christian church buildings in Pakistan, including Pastor Masih’s church. Also, over 1,500 homes of Christians were burned down. When Pastor Masih went to South Africa soon afterward to speak at a church, he showed pic-tures of the burned churches and homes in Pakistan by the Muslims. Word about this got back to the Pakistan government and he was not allowed back into Pakistan, and has since then received several death threats for him and his family. Thankfully, after much fasting and prayer, the American Embassy, which at first was unwilling to give Pastor Masih and his family visas, finally did after several days.

Pastor Masih has exciting stories to share from personal experience of God’s deliverance. He also will teach us truth about the Muslim religion and how we can love Muslims to Christ. Did you know we now have Muslim students at Southwestern College?

Pastor Masih has spoken in 42 states in over 500 churches, as well as on Christian radio and television, and at large Christian conferences and seminars on the Islam religion. You will want to be sure to attend the opportunities to hear Pastor Masih speak!

Also, we are excited to have our own Mexico Missions Team and Anna Hollingsworth and her friend, Jason, share about their mission trips to Reynosea, Mexico and Haiti. Be sure to check out the schedule and attend all that you can, as we gain God’s vision in reaching the world for Christ! Also use this month of October to fill out your missions brochure pledge to our Faith Promise Missions Fund. We need your faithful giving to be able to continue to financially support our missionaries.

Reaching Out with God’s love to LOVE WINFIELD! - Nov. 3

On Sunday, November 3, we will have our first worship service at 8:15am with communion, then at 9:30am we will be going out into our community to share and show God’s love, through prayer and various service projects until early afternoon. Sign-up sheets will be coming in the foyer for different ways you can be involved in being the hands and feet of Jesus to our community. There will be opportunities for you to be on teams to help do clean up and repair in our community in various ways, or stay back at our facility to pray. We will not have Sunday School or our 11:00am (second worship) service on this Sunday.

All Church Harvest Hot Dog Roast & Hayride at Heritage Ranch

On Sunday, November 3rd at 5:30pm, we will gather for a hayride and hot dog and

marshmallow roast at the Heritage Ranch Camp, two miles east of Dex-

ter. Please bring a snack to share. Hot dogs and marshmallows will be

provided. If you would like a ride to the event, the church van will leave for

Heritage Ranch at 5:05pm from the church parking lot. Come and join us

for this great family fun outing! People will also share about their “Love

Winfield” service experiences from earlier this day.

Annual All Church Thanksgiving Meal—Nov. 24 On Sunday, November 24 at 12:15 pm after our second worship service, you are en-couraged to come for our annual all church Thanksgiving Dinner, or maybe better said, our Thanksgiving Feast! Our church will provide turkey and all the trimmings, with mashed potatoes and dressing. You are encouraged to bring a side dish and dessert to share. We will take time to share what we are thankful to God for, and sing together

“Count your Blessings.” You won’t want to miss this! If you would like to help with food and kitchen preparation, please contact Debbie Love, note your wanting to help on your bulletin tear-off on Sunday or call the church office.

Cardboard Testimonies On Sunday, November 24, during both morning worship services, time will be taken for peo-ple to share cardboard testimonies. A cardboard testimony is where, on a large sheet of cardboard, you write out a short testimony in large, bold letters on one side of the cardboard of the difficulty, need, or challenge you were facing. Then on the other side of the cardboard you briefly write out how God met your need. All you do is go up on stage and briefly show each side of the cardboard as a testimony to God’s grace and power. So, get your cardboard testimony ready to give thanks and glory to God!

Pastor Scott on Religious Panel Discussion at Southwestern College

On Tuesday, November 5 at 12:15pm, Southwestern College in Winfield will host from Wichita, a

Jewish rabbi and a Muslim imam, plus our own Pastor Scott on a religious panel discussion. Pas-

tor Scott will represent the Christian perspective as panel members are asked questions and dis-

cuss the differences and any similarities these religions have. Pray for Pastor Scott to represent

the Lord and the truth of His Word well, and for attendees to be open to the Gospel and God’s

truth. “And also pray for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to

proclaim the mystery of the gospel.” (Ephesians 6:19).

Current Adult Bible Fellowships-9:45am Each Sunday...

Sanctuary Adult Bible Fellowship

Ever wonder how to defend your faith when asked hard questions? The Sanctuary Adult Bible Fellowship is discussing the DVD series, “Yes, Your Question?” ?This class delves into the hard questions of faith answered by apologist Ravi Zacharias. We will dis-cuss questions like “How do I defend the Bible?” “How do we define faith?” “How do we know Christianity is the one true worldview?”…and many others. Join us in the sanctuary. Keith Dailey is facilitating this class.

If you are not currently attending an Adult Bible Fellowship class, please come and you will be encouraged in your walk with Christ through apologetic proofs for the truth of Christianity and the Bible. Come and join us as we learn to share the power of God’s love and grace to the world around us!

‘Master God's Book’ Adult Bible Fellowship

This class is studying the book of John. For many Christian people, the Gospel according to St. John is the most precious book in the New Testament,” says Bible scholar William Barclay. “It is the book on which above all they feed their minds, and nourish their hearts, and in which they rest their soul.” John’s Gospel is priceless both for the sinner in the process of coming to Christ and for the believer who has walked with Him for many years. This gospel satisfies the spiritual seeker and refreshes the Christian servant. Its fascination is immediate and enduring. Its message is simple and profound. The Gospel according to John stands as a living testimony of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This class meets in the southwest end of the Family Life Center and is facilitated by Pat Potter.

Women’s ‘Last Sunday of the Month’ Class But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

So many times when we think about Galatians 5:22 we picture a quiet serene glistening bowl of ripe mature fruit. When in

fact, the Fruit of the Spirit is a call to action, growth, and maturity. The Fruit of the Spirit is the inner reflection of our

growing faith with our outward actions of that precious faith. Please join the Bible Study of Galatians 5:22 as we women

gather together the last Sunday of each month beginning on Sept. 29th in the Family Life Center. If you have any ques-

tions, please call Yvonne Marcotte at 620-229-4351.

Men’s ‘Last Sunday of the Month’ Class

Starting Sept. 29, the monthly men’s study begins with a series from Pastor Andy Stanley entitled, ”Christian: It’s Not What You Think”. What does it mean to be a Christian? Ask 100 people that question and you are likely to get 100 different an-swers. In “Christian,” an eight-session DVD Bible study, pastor and bestselling author Andy Stanley explores the one word that Jesus gave his followers that should define them. This class will be offered the last Sunday of every month Sept. through next May, and be facilitated by Gregg Little and Keith Daily in the Sanctuary. Men, come join us!!

All men and boys are invited to the Handisciples free men’s breakfasts on the second and

fourth Saturdays of the month at 8:30am at the Frist Christian Church, located

at 904 Alexander St., Winfield. Plan to come and join us on Saturday mornings

Richardson Family Update

September 24 2013 Hi Folks,

We thought it would be good to let you all know that we are fine. The events in Nairobi are far from us and have not effected our daily lives. On the other hand, we will have things to consider before our next trip to Nairobi for supplies. We’ll keep an eye on how things are over the next several weeks. We appreciate all of your prayers and concern for us these days.

These days in devotions we’ve been working through Israel’s history during the time the nation was in exile in Babylon. This morning (Tuesday) we were reading Jeremiah 25 where God explained that he would use Babylon to punish Israel for not listening to him, but then later he would punish Babylon for their wickedness. He used Nebuchadnezzar as a servant, but not for Nebuchad-nezzar’s own good.

The photos I saw from Nairobi made me angry, but it is a comfort to know that God can use the wicked plans of these people to accomplish His own plans, just like He did with Nebuchadnezzar. We should be praying to that end.

I am glad to be a tool in God’s hand, but even more glad that he not only uses us, but uses us for our own good.

Take care - Tom and Family

September 2013 Dear Friends,

Did you know that you can make dirt look clean? You might think it’s a strange concept since dirt is always dirt and will al-ways be dirty, but the other day when I went over to my neighbor’s house, I looked around her place and thought to myself, "her dirt looks clean." She had picked up and then swept the dirt with branches from a tree. The chickens were scratching near by and some of the dirt was wet from her daughter washing clothes in a bucket, but still her dirt was nice and neat. It looked clean.

I went home and I looked at the dirt in front of my house. My dirt was dirty. We have big acacia trees that constantly drop flowers, seeds, and branches with long thorns. So, I got my broom out and started sweeping. While I was working, Tom walked by and told me how nice the dirt looked. It made me feel good about my dirt. By the time I was done my dirt looked clean too.

Don’t we often try to clean up sin so it doesn’t look so sinful? We have lots of excuses. Maybe my sin isn’t quite so bad as my neighbor’s. That makes me feel better about it. But nothing can cover up the fact that my sin is still sin.

It's interesting that God doesn't want me to clean myself up to be pleasing to Him. Instead He says to confess sin, and "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." This is the only way to get rid of sin. He does it! (It makes me think of a commercial for laundry soap.) Then I can choose to live my life honoring Him because I'm so thankful for what He has done. What a great God!!!

Please pray for the church in Ngurunit. Over the past couple years three different believers have fallen into sin and then turned back to the Lord, even sharing their struggles with the rest of the church, confessing, repenting, growing... Others in the same period of time have fallen and then continued to deny, excuse, sweep… Those who have been humble have had a huge im-pact on the church and the ministry here. Pray that we'll continue to learn to be honest with God rather than sweep our sins around, and that as we do Jesus will be glorified.

Thank you for supporting us and making it possible for us to serve here.

Blessings - Tom, Karen, Ellie, Russell, and Kristyn

OTHER INFO: ***Tom, Russell and the guys have the truck spread all over the shop. He said we may need some parts from the States before it is ready to go again.

***Ellie’s thorn finally came out of her foot. It took about a month.

***Tom is on the way to the dispensary. A neighbor boy fell out of a tree and hit his head on a rock in the lugga (dry riverbed).

***We have guests who are hoping to serve in Kenya with TMM soon. Please pray for their speedy outfitting and support-raising.

***Please continue to pray for the Elders of the church as they lead and make decisions.

***Kristyn is excited because her chickens are finally starting to lay eggs this week. She just came in and told me that another one is sitting in the hutch.

***Thank you to those who helped us buy the equipment to set up satellite internet here in Ngurunit. It is wonderful to be able to talk with our kids in the states from Ngurunit instead of waiting till we go down to Nairobi.

***Russell saw a 4+ foot cobra on the station. Tom and guys dealt with it quickly. Good reminder: Keep our eyes and ears open.

***As you all know we have had some water problems on the station. We’ve made progress with it and are relying on water from the mountain less than before. Hopefully we’ll get it right before the stream dries up.

***Some of you have sent extra gifts to help us out with the extra expenses of getting everything up and running. That has made a big difference; thank you all.
