About the Biased Competition model of attention - requires top-down signal that represents the the to-be-attended item.
This top-down signal can come from working memory (the PFC). WM is under volitionally control and therefore can be used to generateand maintain representations of desired items.
Remaining question: How does the PFC figureout what information to represent?
