CP-189-2006 SNT-TC-1A-2006 NAME ASNT Standard for Qualification and Certification of Nondestructive Testing Personnel Reccomended Practice for Personnel Qualification and Certification in Nondestructive Testing 1.1 Establishes the minimum requirements for the Q & C of NDT and PdM personnel 1.1 Prepared to establish guidelines for the Q & C of NDT personnel whose specific jobs requir appropriate knowledge of the technical principles underlying the NDT they perform,witness, monitor or evaluate. 1.2 Details the minimum training, education, and experience requirements for NDT personnel and provides criteria for docementing Q & C. 1.2 Provides guidelines for the establishment of a Q & C program. 1.3 Requires the employer to estalish a procedure for the certification of NDT personnel. 1.4 These guidelines may not be appropriate for certain employers' circumsantces and/or applications. In developing a written practice as required in section 5, the employer should review the detailed recommendations presented herein and modify them, as necessary, to meet particular need. 1.4 Requires that the employer incorporate any unique or additional requirements in the crtification procedure. 1.3 Developed by ASNT to aid employers in recognising the essential factors to be considered in qualifying personnel engaged in any of the NDT methods listed in section 3. Procedure for Qualification & Certification Written Procedure 5.1 The employer shall develop and maintain a procedure detailing the program that will be used for Qualification & Certification of NDT personnel in accordance with this standard. 5.1 The employer shall establish a written practice for the control & administrartion of NDT personnel training, examination and certification. 5.2 The procedure shall describe the minimum requirements for certifying personnel in each NDT method and the levels of qualification desired. 5.2 The employer's written practice should desscribe the responsibilty of each level of certification for determining the acceptibilty of materials or components in accordance with the applicable codes, standards, specifications and procedures. 5.2.1 Personnel duties & responsibilites 5.2.2 Training Requirements 5.2.3 Experience Requirements 5.2.4 Examination Requirements 5.2.5 Records and documentation requirements, including control, responsibility and retention period 5.2.6 Recertification requirements 5.3 The employer's written practice shall describe the training, experience and examination requirements for each level of certification. 5.5 The employer's written practice shall be maintained on file. 5.3 The employer's certification procedure shall be approved by an NDT Level-III designated by the employer. 5.4 The employer's written practice shall be reviewed and approved by the employers NDT Level-III. Training 4.1 Candidates for certification as NDT Level-I or Level-II shall complete sufficient organized training to become familiar with the principles of the method and the practices of the application test technique. The training shall be conducted in accordance with a course outline approved by an NDT Level-III. 7.1 Personnel being considered for initial certification should complete sufficient training to become thoroughly familiar with the principles and practices of the specified NDT method related to the level of certification desired and applicable to the processes to be used and the products to be tested. 4.1.1 The minimum number of training hours required for NDT Level-I and Level-II candidates in Appendices A and B. The course shall include the topics contained in ASNT CP-105 for the appropriate NDT method, plus such additional topics. 4.1.2 Credit required to prove the completion of training hours. Training shall be given by NDT Instructor. 4.4.1 Qualification Criteria for NDT Instructor 4.5 Level-III of outside agency shall be responsible for the training servives provided. Recommended training course outlines used as training source material are contained ASNT CP-105…… Employer will ensure the training hours as per written practice. 7.4 Employer shall be resposible for the outside training. Recommended Initial Training and Experience Levels given in table 6.3.1 Examination Written examinations: For Level-III- Specific and practical examination. Practical Examination: 6.3.3.1 and 6.3.3.2 One sample for level-I and 2 samples for level-II. 6.4.1 Exams to be administered by Level-III. Vision Examination. Jaeger Number 1 at a distance not less than 12 inches. Frequency of Vision Exam and colour exam: Annually 6.1.4Vision Examination is administered by personnel approved by NDT Level-III. Examination:(For Level- I and II) For Level-III- basic, method and Specific examination. Specific examination may be skiped by employer if candidate has a validACCP level-II certificate. Practical Examination: Successful completion of an ACCP Level-II general hands-on practical examination may be considered as fulfilling the requirements of paragraph 8.5. 8.1.1 Exams shall be administered by Level-III or qualified representative designated by Level-III and shall be recorded. 8.5.2 Atlease one flawed sample to be tested for each method (for level-I and Level-II) Vision examinations:::::AS PER 8.2 Jaeger No. 2 at a distance not less than 12 inches or Ortho-rater minimum 8 or equivalent. Annually Colour vison test once in a five year interval. Administeration of visula examination not mentioned. 6 Levels of qualification: Level-III, Level-II, Level-II Limited, Level-I, Trainee, NDT Instructor. 3 Levels of Qualification: Level-III, Leve-II and Level-I.
