    QUALIF ICAT IONS

    CASI Level 1:The entry level snowboard instructorqualification for teaching novices and young children howto snowboard. The Canadian Association of SnowboardInstructors (CASI) Level 1 is an introduction to the CASItechnique and methodology, and the role of snowboardteaching within the industry.

    CASI Level 2:Having completed the Level 1 award, Level 2is the next level for snowboarding in the Canadian systemlooking to start teaching intermediate snowboarders outon the mountain. Both the training and final examinationfor this award require dedicated training and a high levelof riding. Historically Basecamp students have enjoyed

    a high level pass rate, and this is something we prideourselves on. Whilst the CASI award enables you to teachall over the world, you will have discovered Canada nowand will find it hard to go anywhere else.

    AST Level 1:The Avalanche Skills Training Level 1Course will provide an entry-level decision-makingframework that is based on the most advancedknowledge available. It is suitable for use by peoplewith basic training and little experience.

    AST Mission Statement:To provide leadership,development, communication, coordination and deliveryof public avalanche safety products and services througha collaborative, diverse and multilevel network.

    First Aid:Basecampers will do a 2 day mountain specificfirst aid course preparing and educating participants for

    future use.

    CASI Park Level 1:An entry level freestyle qualificationfor those wishing to learn and practice freestyle in asafe environment.

    Who is this course best suited to?Those looking to qualify as a level 2 instructor wishingto return the following season to work as an instructor.

    How good do you have to be at Skiing before the course?We ask that you can snowboard comfortably down redruns and occasional blacks.

    Is the course hard to pass?The level 1 isnt hard to pass. Its an entry levelqualification. Participants will be assessed on their abilityto perform and teach on the mountain. We get a 100%

    pass rate year in year out. The Level 2 is a big step upfrom the Level 1, however the training you receive priorto the exam puts you in an excellent position to pass. The2013/14 season boasts a 100% pass rate on Level 1and 2 in Banff.

    How likely is it that Ill get a job?Usually 95%. In recent years everyone who has wanteda job has secured one. We dont like to guarantee asits down to the individual to posses the skill and attitudethat employers are looking for.

    Banff is one of the worlds most unique

    ski locations based in the middle of

    a national park, in North Americas

    largest mountain range. It promises

    unspoilt views and unbelievable snowconditions. Boasting first class training,

    uncrowded pistes, epic powder, and a

    buzzing nightlife, it is no wonder Banff

    is widely regarded as one of worlds

    skiing and snowboarding epicentres.

    RESORT OVERVIEW

    Banff is home to three of the worlds finest resorts: The Lake Louise Ski

    Resort, Sunshine Village and Mt. Norquay. These resorts provide over

    8,000 acres of skiable terrain suiting every ability. The inland location

    ensures plenty of dry, light snow so you can be sure therell be many

    epic powder days. Basecamp run their courses in the Lake Louise Ski

    Resort (voted Canadas Best Ski Resort in the 2013 World Ski Awards),

    which has some great long cruising runs and some of the Rockies widest

    and most exciting bowls.

    During the course, youll be based in Banff town, a short ride from theLake Louise ski resort. The town is always buzzing. Banff has a selection

    of restaurants, pubs, bars and clubs and even has a cinema. The Lux

    Cinema Banff shows all the latest and best hollywood blockbusters in high

    definition. Theres also a sports centre and bowling alley to enjoy. For

    the seriously keen skiers and boarders, theres a floodlit night-skiing every

    friday night at nearby Mount Norquay where the freestyle park and

    surrounding slopes are lit-up.

    Basecamp training is based at Lake Louise. The area has spectacular

    scenery with uniquely amazing terrain, a perfect environment for

    instructor or performance coaching. The area boasts 4200 acres of

    skiable terrain and is one of the largest ski areas in North America.There are runs to cater for all levels and the unique layout caters well

    for large groups who are looking for an incredible time. There are

    endless chutes, gullies, parks and pistes for the more advanced rider

    and Basecamp take full advantage of this awesome playground.

    Based between four mountains, the main resort areas, Front Side

    & South Face, Ptarmigan, Paradise Bowls, Back Bowls and Larch,

    provide skiing and boarding terrain to suit any style and level. The

    long season from mid-November to late May means that there is alsoplenty of time to really explore the resorts and uncover all their hidden

    gems. Couple this with an optional Tri-Area pass that joins Lake Louise

    to Sunshine Village and Norquay and youll be in for an unbelievable

    season. Combined, these three resorts offer almost 8,000 acres of

    skiable terrain with an average of 33ft of dry, light snow in Sunshine

    Village, thats more than any other resort in Canada.

    We know what people want from course

    accommodation, and that is big comfortable beds,

    lots of storage space, free wi-fi, all the extras of hot

    tub, sauna, steam room, and ultimately to be centrally

    located in the heart of the town next door to the shops

    and the night life. Located in Banff town, a short

    ride from the bottom of the ski lifts, Basecampers

    are accommodated in The Ptarmigan Inn, a great

    3* Hotel, and the closest Hotel to the main drag.

    The a ccommodation is spacious, twin share and

    most importantly central, allowing you to walk to

    the center of town within 3 minutes.

    The Banff Ptarmigan Inn is centrally located in Banff

    National Park only steps away from the downtown

    area. You can relax in the Mountain Luxury beds and

    have a soak in the hot tubs, steam room, and sauna.

    A C C O M M O D AT I O N

    Basecampers stay in twin rooms with two double and

    an en-suite bathroom. The rooms are fully serviced

    every three days. We try to match you as best as we

    can when it comes to choosing who lives where. Banff

    is a fantastic place to live for the season and we hope

    you enjoy living there.

    Basecampers are provided with a hot breakfast

    buffet 7 days a week at the Meatball Restaurant

    (The Ptarmigan Inn in-house restaurant), and $100

    of evening meal tokens each week which can be usedat a selection of restaurants around town from Sunday

    through to Thursday.

    On the mountain, the Temple Lodge is a great place to

    grab a drink. The Temple Lodge offers rustic charm in a

    spectacular setting. Its a great place to relax and enjoy

    a drink in the sun before heading back to Banff town.

    Banff nightlife is lively and varied. With a huge range

    of pubs, bars and night clubs there is something for

    everyone. Beer lovers should head to St James Gate

    Irish pub. The Pump and Tap is the place to go if you

    want to watch the Premiership football, or if you fancy

    competing in a pool tournament then head over to the

    Rose and Crown. Cheap drinks can be found at Mels,

    with Hoodoo Lounge offering great drinks specials. The

    best nightclub is Aurora Nightclub where the DJs spin

    the latest house music as well as some great classics.

    Basecamp was absolutely amazing-the lake Louise resort is breathtakinglybeautiful, the snowboarding is wickedand the basecamp reps are awesome.

    The coaches were amazing, each and

    everyone had their own style and way

    of improving your riding. You get quality

    training 4 days a week and still having time

    to play on the weekend. All of this adds up

    to creates an unbelievable season.
