Snowball Fight

Materials • Less than, Greater than, and Equal to signs, postedin 3 corners of the classroom • A fraction on a half-sheet of paper for each studentInstructions 1. Give each student a half sheet of paper with a

fraction on it. Tell them to crumple it up like asnowball.

2. Explain to students that they will be having asnowball fight. During the fight, they will throwpaper snowballs at each other without running oryelling. When told to “freeze,” they need to stopthe snowball fight immediately.

3. Begin the fight, and stop it when appropriate.4. Have each student choose one snowball, open it

up, and go to the appropriate corner of theroom, depending on their fraction. For example,if a student has the fraction 1/4, they will go tothe “Less than 1/2” sign that is posted aroundthe classroom.

5. Check that each student made it to the correctcorner, and then repeat!
