PREPARATION

Thoroughlyinspecttheareawherethe equipmentis to beused.Removeall doormats,newspapers,sleds,boards,wiresandotherforeignobjects,whichcouldbe trippedoveror thrownby the auger/impeller.

Alwayswear safetyglassesor eyeshieldsduringoperationandwhile performingan adjustmentor repairto protectyoureyes.Thrownobjectswhichricochetcancauseseriousinjuryto theeyes.Donot operatewithoutwearingadequatewinteroutergarments.Donot wearjewelry,longscarvesorotherlooseclothing,whichcould becomeentangledinmovingparts.Wearfootwearwhichwill improvefootingonslipperysurfaces.Usea groundedthree-wireextensioncordand receptaclefor allmachineswithelectricstartengines.

Disengageall controlleversbeforestartingthe engine.Neverattemptto makeanyadjustmentswhileengineis running,exceptwherespecificallyrecommendedinthe operator'smanual.

Letengineandmachineadjustto outdoortemperaturebeforestartingto clearsnow.

Safe Handling of GasolineToavoidpersonalinjuryor propertydamageuseextremecare inhandlinggasoline.Gasolineis extremelyflammableandthe vaporsareexplosive.Seriouspersonalinjurycan occurwhengasolineis spilledonyourselfor yourclotheswhichcan ignite.Washyour skinandchangeclothesimmediately.

• Useonly anapprovedgasolinecontainer.• Extinguishall cigarettes,cigars,pipesandother sources

of ignition.• Neverfuelmachineindoors.

• Neverremovegas capor addfuel whilethe engineis hotor running.

• Allowengineto coolat leasttwo minutesbeforerefueling.• Neveroverfill fueltank. Filltankto no morethan1/2inch

belowbottomof filler neckto providespacefor fuelexpansion.

• Replacegasolinecap andtightensecurely.

• Ifgasolineis spilled,wipeit off the engineandequipment.Movemachineto anotherarea.Wait5 minutesbefore

startingthe engine.• Neverstorethe machineor fuel containerinsidewhere

thereis anopenflame,sparkor pilotlight (e.g.furnace,waterheater,spaceheater,clothesdryer etc.).

• Allowmachineto cool at least5 minutesbeforestoring.• Neverfill containersinsidea vehicleor ona truckor trailer

bedwitha plasticliner.Alwaysplacecontainersonthegroundawayfromyourvehiclebeforefilling.

• If possible,removegas-poweredequipmentfromthetruckor trailerand refuelit on the ground.If this is not possible,then refuelsuchequipmentona trailerwitha portablecontainer,ratherthan fromagasolinedispensernozzle.

• Keepthe nozzleincontactwith the rimof the fueltankorcontaineropeningat all timesuntil fuelingis complete.Donotuse a nozzlelock-opendevice.

OPERATION

• Do not puthandsor feetnear rotatingparts,in the auger/impellerhousingor chuteassembly.Contactwith the rotatingpartscanamputatehandsandfeet.

• Theauger/impellercontrol leveris a safetydevice.Neverbypassitsoperation.Doingso makesthe machineunsafeandmaycausepersonalinjury.

• Thecontrol leversmustoperateeasilyin bothdirectionsandautomaticallyreturnto the disengagedpositionwhenreleased.

• Neveroperatewitha missingor damagedchuteassembly.Keepall safetydevicesin placeandworking.

• Neverrunanengineindoorsor ina poorlyventilatedarea. Engineexhaustcontainscarbonmonoxide,anodorlessanddeadlygas.

• Do notoperatemachinewhileunder the influenceof alcoholordrugs.

• Mufflerandenginebecomehotandcan causea burn.Do nottouch.Keepchildrenaway.

• Exerciseextremecautionwhenoperatingon orcrossinggravelsurfaces.Stayalertfor hiddenhazardsor traffic.

• Exercisecautionwhenchangingdirectionandwhileoperatingonslopes.

• Planyoursnow-throwingpatternto avoiddischargetowardswindows,walls,carsetc. Thus,avoidingpossiblepropertydamageor personalinjurycausedby a ricochet.

• Neverdirectdischargeat children,bystandersand petsor allowanyoneinfrontof the machine.

• Donot overloadmachinecapacityby attemptingto clearsnowattoo fastof a rate.

• Neveroperatethis machinewithoutgoodvisibilityor light.Alwaysbe sureof yourfootingand keepa firmholdon the handles.Walk,neverrun.

• Disengagepowerto theauger/impellerwhentransportingor notin use.

• Neveroperatemachineat hightransportspeedson slipperysurfaces.Lookdownand behindand usecare whenbackingup.

• If the machineshouldstart to vibrateabnormally,stopthe engine,disconnectthe sparkplugwire andgroundit againstthe engine.Inspectthoroughlyfor damage.Repairanydamagebeforestartingandoperating.

• Disengageall controlleversandstopenginebeforeyouleavethe operatingposition(behindthe handles).Waituntilthe auger/impellercomesto a completestopbeforeuncloggingthechuteassembly,makingany adjustments,or inspections.

• Neverput yourhandinthe dischargeor collectoropenings.Donot unclogchuteassemblywhileengineis running.Shutoffengineand remainbehindhandlesuntilall movingpartshavestoppedbeforeunclogging.

• Useonly attachmentsandaccessoriesapprovedby the manufac-turer (e.g.wheelweights,tire chains,cabsetc.).

• Whenstartingengine,pullcord slowlyuntilresistanceis felt, thenpull rapidly.Rapidretractionof startercord(kickback)will pullhandandarmtowardenginefasterthan youcan let go. Brokenbones,fractures,bruisesor sprainscould result.

• Ifsituationsoccurwhichare notcoveredinthis manual,use careandgoodjudgment.ContactCustomerSupportfor assistanceandthe nameof your nearestservicingdealer.

CLEARING A CLOGGED DISCHARGE CHUTE

Handcontactwith the rotatingimpellerinsidethe dischargechuteis the mostcommoncauseof injuryassociatedwithsnowthrowers.Neveruse yourhandto cleanout thedischargechute.Toclear thechute:1. SHUTTHEENGINEOFF!

2. Wait 10secondsto be surethe impellerbladeshavestoppedrotating.

3. Alwaysusea clean-outtool,not yourhands.

MAINTENANCE & STORAGE

• Nevertamperwithsafetydevices.Checktheirproperoperationregularly.Referto the maintenanceandadjustmentsectionsofthismanual.

• Beforecleaning,repairing,or inspectingmachinedisengageallcontrolleversandstopthe engine.Waituntilthe auger/impellercometo a completestop.Disconnectthe sparkplugwireandgroundagainsttheengineto preventunintendedstarting.

Checkboltsand screwsfor propertightnessat frequentintervalsto keepthe machineinsafeworkingcondition.Also,visuallyinspectmachinefor anydamage.Do notchangetheenginegovernorsettingor over-speedtheengine.Thegovernorcontrolsthe maximumsafeoperatingspeedof the engine.

Snowthrowershaveplatesand skidshoesaresubjectto wearanddamage.Foryoursafetyprotection,frequentlycheckallcomponentsand replacewithoriginalequipmentmanufacturer's(OEM)partsonly."Useof partswhichdo not meetthe originalequipmentspecificationsmayleadto improperperformanceandcompromisesafety!"Checkcontrolleversperiodicallyto verifytheyengageanddisen-gageproperlyandadjust,if necessary.Referto the adjustmentsectioninthisoperator'smanualfor instructions.

Maintainor replacesafetyandinstructionlabels,as necessary.• Observeproperdisposallawsand regulationsfor gas,oil,etc. to

protectthe environment.

Priorto storing,runmachinea few minutestoclear snowfrommachineand preventfreezeupof auger/impeller.Neverstorethe machineor fuel containerinsidewherethereisanopenflame,sparkorpilot lightsuchas a waterheater,furnace,clothesdryer etc.Alwaysreferto the operator'smanualfor properinstructionsonoff-seasonstorage.

Checkfuelline,tank, cap,andfittingsfrequentlyfor cracksorleaks.Replaceif necessary.Do notcrankenginewithsparkplugremoved.

Accordingto the ConsumerProductsSafetyCommission(CPSC)andthe U.S.EnvironmentalProtectionAgency(EPA),thisproducthasan AverageUsefulLifeof seven(7)years,or 60 hoursofoperation.At the endof theAverageUsefulLifehavethe machineinspectedannuallybyan authorizedservicedealer to ensurethatallmechanicalandsafetysystemsareworkingproperlyand notwornexcessively.Failureto do so can resultinaccidents,injuriesordeath.

DO NOT MODIFY ENGINE

Toavoidseriousinjuryor death,do not modifyengineinany way.Tamperingwith the governorsettingcanleadto a runawayengineandcauseit to operateat unsafespeeds.Nevertamperwithfactorysettingof enginegovernor.

NOTICE REGARDING EMISSIONS

EngineswhicharecertifiedtocomplywithCaliforniaandfederalEPAemissionregulationsfor SORE(SmallOff RoadEquipment)arecertifiedto operateon regularunleadedgasoline,and mayincludethe followingemissioncontrolsystems:EngineModification(EM),OxidizingCatalyst(OC),SecondaryAir Injection(SAI)and ThreeWayCatalyst(TWO)if so equipped.

SPARK ARRESTOR

Thismachineisequippedwithaninternalcombustionengineandshouldnotbe usedonor nearany unimprovedforest-covered,brush-coveredorgrass-coveredlandunlessthe engine'sexhaustsystemisequippedwitha sparkarrestermeetingapplicablelocalorstatelaws(if any)

Ifa sparkattester is used, it shouldbemaintainedin effectiveworkingorderby theoperator.Inthe Stateof Californiathe aboveis requiredbylaw (Section4442of the CaliforniaPublicResourcesCode).Otherstatesmayhavesimilarlaws. Federallawsapplyonfederallands.A sparkarresterfor the muffleris availablethroughyournearestSearsPartsandRepairServiceCenter.

Do not use the engine's electric starter in the rain

1. Cut the cornersof thecartonandlay the sidesflaton the ground.Removeanddiscardallpackinginserts.

2. Movethe snowthrowerout of thecarton.

3. Makecertainthe cartonhas beencompletelyemptiedbeforediscardingit.

SET-UP

Fuel Recommendations

Useautomotivegasoline(unleadedor low leadedto minimizecombus-tionchamberdeposits)witha minimumof 87octane.Gasolinewithupto 10%ethanolor 15%MTBE(MethylTertiaryButylEther)can beused.Neveruse anoil/gasolinemixtureor dirtygasoline.Avoidgettingdirt,dust,or waterin the fueltank. DONOTuse E85gasoline.• Refuelina well-ventilatedareawith the enginestopped.Donot

smokeor allowflamesor sparksin the areawherethe engineisrefueledorwheregasolineis stored.

• Do notoverfillthe fuel tank.After refueling,makesurethetankcap is closedproperlyand securely.

• Becarefulnot to spill fuelwhen refueling.Spilledfuel or fuelvapormay ignite.Ifany fuel isspilled,makesurethe area isdry beforestartingthe engine.

• Avoidrepeatedor prolongedcontactwithskinor breathingofvapor.

Adding Fuel

ADJUSTMENTS

Chute Assembly

The pitchof the chuteassemblycontrolsthe angleat whichthe snowis thrown.

1. Loosenthewingknobfoundontheleftsideofthechuteassemblyandpivotthe upperchuteupwardor downwardto thedesiredpitch.Retightenthe wing knobbeforeoperatingthe snowthrower.

2. Positionthe chuteassemblyopeningby usingthe chutehandletothrowthe snowinthe desireddirection.See Figure6.

THROTTLE

The throttlecontrolis locatedonthe rearof the engine.It regulatesthespeedof the engineandwill shutoff the enginewhenmovedinto theSTOPposition.

RECOIL STARTER

The starterhandleis usedto manuallystartthe engine.

GASOLINE CAP

Removethe gascap to addfuel.

AUGER

Whenengaged,the augersrotationdrawssnow intothe augerhousingandthrowsitout the dischargechute.Rubberpaddleson the augersalso aid inpropellingthe snowthroweras theycomeincontactwiththe pavement.

Meets ANSi Safety StandardsCraftsmanSnowThrowersconformto the safetystandardof the AmericanNationalStandardsInstitute(ANSI).

AUGER CONTROLLocatedon the upperhandle,the augercontrolhandleis usedtoengageanddisengagedriveto the auger.Squeezethe controlhandleagainstthe upperhandleto engagethe auger;releaseit to disengage.

CHUTE ASSEMBLY

Rotatethe dischargechuteto the leftor rightusingthe chutehandle.Thepitchof the dischargechutecontrolsthe angleat whichthe snowis thrown.Loosenthewing knobonthe side of the dischargechutebeforepivotingthe dischargechuteupwardordownward.Retightenthe knoboncethe desiredpositionhasbeenachieved.

SHAVE PLATE

Theshaveplate maintainscontactwith the pavementas the snowthroweris propelled,allowingsnowclosetothe pavement'ssurfacetobedischarged.

ELECTRIC STARTER OUTLET

Theelectricstarteroutlet requiresthe use of a three-prongoutdoorextensioncordanda 120Vpowersource/walloutlet.

NOTE:The electricstarteris mountedto the plasticshroudandisshownin Figure7 attachedto the enginefor easierreference.ELECTRIC STARTER BUTTON

Pressingthe electricstarterbuttonengagesthe engine'selectricstarterwhenpluggedintoa 120Vpowersource.

BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE

The electricstarteris equippedwitha groundedthree-wirepowercord andplug,andis designedto operateon 120voltAChouseholdcurrent.It mustbeusedwitha properlygroundedthree-prongreceptacleat all timesto avoidthe possibilityof electricshock.Followall instructionscarefullypriorto operatingthe electricstarter.DONOTuseelectricstarterin rain.

1. Determinethatyourhome'swiringisathree-wiregroundedsystem.Aska licensedelectricianif youare unsure.Ifyou haveagroundedthree-prongreceptacle,proceedas follows.Ifyou donothavethe properhousewiring,DO NOTusethe electricstarterunderanyconditions.

2. Insertthe ignitionkeyfully intothe slot, Figure8. Makesureitsnapsintoplace.DO NOTturn the ignitionkey,doingso mightcauseit to break.The enginecannotstart unlessthe key isinsertedinto the ignitionswitch.

STOPPING THE ENGINE

To avoidunsupervisedengineoperation,neverleavethe enginelunattendedwhile running.Turnthe engineoffafter useandremovelignitionkey.

Runtheenginefora fewminutesbeforestoppingto helpdry off anymoistureon theengine.1. Movethethrottlecontrolto the STOP_ (turtle)position.

2. Removethe ignitionkey.Removingthe keywill reducethe pos-sibilityof unauthorizedstartingof the enginewhilethe equipmentis not inuse.Keepthe keyina safeplace.The enginecannotstart withoutthe ignitionkey.

3. Wipeall the snowandmoistureawayfromthe enginecontrolsarea.

TO ENGAGE AUGERS

Toengagethe augersandstartthrowingsnow,squeezethe augercontrolagainstthe handle.Releaseto stopthe augers.

ENGAGING THE DRIVE

Liftupslightlyonthe handleto allowthe rubberpaddlesonthe augerto contactthe pavementand propelthe snowthrowerforward.Pushingdownwardonthe handlewill raisethe augersoff the groundandstopthe forwardmotion.

NOTE:Excessiveupwardpressureonthe handlewill result inprematurewearto the rubberaugerpaddles,which is notcoveredbythe warranty.

Do not pull the starterhandlewhile theenginerunning.

Toavoidunsupervisedengineoperation,neverleavethe engineunattendedwhilerunning.Turnthe engineoff afteruseand removeignitionkey.

Insertthe ignitionkeyfully intotheslot,Figure9. Makesureit snapsintoplace.DO NOTturnthe ignitionkey.The enginecannotstartunlessthe key is insertedintothe ignitionswitch.

ENGINE MAINTENANCE

Topreventaccidentalstart-up,shutoff the engineand removetheignitionkeybeforeperforminganytypeof enginemaintenance.

Periodicinspectionandadjustmentof the engineis essentialif highlevelperformanceis to be maintained.Regularmaintenancewill alsoensurea longservicelife.The requiredserviceintervalsandthetypeof maintenanceto beperformedaredescribedinthe tableabove.Followthe hourlyor calendarintervals,whicheveroccurfirst. Morefrequentserviceis requiredwhenoperatinginadverseconditions.

CHECKING ENGINE OIL

1. Removethe oil fillercap/dipstickandwipethe dipstickclean.Referto Figure4.

2. Insertthe cap/dipstickintothe oil filler neck,but DO NOTscrewit in.

3. Removethe oil fillercap/dipstick.If the levelis low,slowlyaddoil untiloil levelregistersbetweenhigh(H) andlow (L), RefertoFigure4.

NOTE:Donot overfill.Overfillingthe enginewithoil mayresultin theenginesmoking,hardstartingorsparkplugfouling.

Oil Recommendations

Whenaddingoil to the engine,referto the viscositychartbelow(Figure10). Engineoil capacityis 600 rnl (approx.20oz.). Do notover-fill.Usea4-stroke,oran equivalenthighdetergent,premiumqual-itymotoroil certifiedto meetor exceedU.S.automobilemanufacturer'srequirementsfor serviceclassificationSG,SE Motoroils classifiedSG,SF will showthisdesignationonthe container.

DONOTusenon-detergentoil or2-strokeengineoil. It couldshortenthe engine'sservicelife.

ADJUSTMENTS

BeforeServicing,repairingor inspectingthe snowthrower,disengagethe augercontrol.Stop theengineand removethe keyto preventunintendedstarting.

Shave Plate

Tocheckthe adjustmentof theshaveplate,placethe machineonalevelsurface.The wheels,shaveplateandaugersshouldallcontactthe levelsurface.Notethat if the shaveplateisadjustedtoo high,snowmayblowunder theaugerhousing.If the shaveplatewearsoutexcessively,or the snowthrowerdoes not self-propel,theshaveplatemaybetoo lowandneedsto beadjusted.

Loosenthefour locknutsandboltswhichsecurethe shaveplateto the housing.SeeFigure14.Movethe shaveplateto thedesiredpositionandretightenthe nutsandboltssecurely.

Control Cable

As a resultof both thecontrolcableandthe augerdrivebelt stretchingdueto wear,periodicadjustmentsmaybenecessary.If the augerseemsto hesitatewhenrotating,proceedas follows:

Theupperhole in the controlhandleprovidesfor anadjustmentincabletension.Toadjust,disconnectthe endof controlcablefromthebottomholein the controlhandleand reinsertit in the upperhole.Insertthe cablefromtheoutsideas shownin Figure15.

PREPARING ENGINE

Enginesstoredover30daysneedto bedrainedof fuel to preventdeteriorationandgumfromforminginfuel systemor onessentialcarburetorparts.If thegasolineinyourenginedeterioratesduringstorage,youmayneedto havethe carburetor,andotherfuel systemcomponents,servicedor replaced.

1. Removeall fuel fromtank by runningengineuntil it stops.2. Changethe engineoil.3. Removesparkplugandpourapproximately1oz. (30 rnl)of clean

engineoil intothe cylinder.Pullthe recoilstarterseveraltimestodistributetheoil, and reinstallthe sparkplug.

4. Cleandebrisfromaroundengine,andunder,around,andbehindmuffler.Applya lightfilmof oilon anyareasthatare susceptibleto rust.

• Storeina clean,dry andwellventilatedareaawayfromanyap-pliancethatoperateswithaflameor pilotlight,suchas a furnace,waterheater,or clothesdryer.Avoidany areawitha sparkproducingelectricmotor,or wherepowertoolsareoperated.

Neverstoresnowthrowerwith fuel in tank indoorsor inpoorlyventi-latedareas,wherefuel fumesmayreachan openflame,sparkor pilollightas ona furnace,waterheater,clothesdryer orgas appliance.

• If possible,avoidstorageareaswithhighhumidity.• Keepthe enginelevelin storage.Tiltingcan causefuel oroil

leakage.

PREPARING SNOW THROWER

Whenstoringthe snowthrowerin anunventilatedormetalstor-age shed,careshouldbetakento rustprooftheequipment.Usinga light oilor silicone,coat theequipment,especiallyanychains,springs,bearingsandcables.

The CaliforniaAir ResourcesBoard(CARB),U.S. EPAandMTDarepleasedto explaintheemissionscontrolsystemwarrantyonyour modelyear2006andlatersmalloff-roadengine.In California,new smalloff-roadenginesmustbe designed,builtand equippedto meet theStatesanti-smogstandards.Elsewherein the UnitedStates,newnon-road,spark-ignitionenginescertifiedfor model2005and later,mustmeetsimilarstandardssetforthby the U.S. EPA.MTDmustwarrantythe emissioncontrolsystemonyourenginefor the periodof timelistedbelow,providedtherehasbeennoabuse,neglector impropermaintenanceof your smalloff-roadengine.

Youremissioncontrolsystemmayincludepartssuchas the carburetor,fuel-injectionsystem,the ignitionsystem,andcatalyticconverter,fueltanks,fuel lines,fuel caps,valves,canisters,filters,vaporhoses,clamps,connectors,andotherassociatedemission-relatedcomponents.

Wherea warrantableconditionexists,MTDwill repairyoursmalloff-roadengineat nocost to yourincludingdiagnosis,partsand labor.

MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY COVERAGE:

Thisemissionscontrolsystemis warrantedfor twoyears.If anyemission-relatedpart onyourengineis defective,the part will berepairedorreplacedby MTD.

OWNER'S WARRANTY RESPONSIBILITIES:

As the smalloff-roadengineowner,youare responsibleforthe performanceof the requiredmaintenancelisted inyour Owner'sManual.MTDrecommendsthatyou retainall yourreceiptscoveringmaintenanceson yoursmalloff-roadengine,but MTDcan not denywarrantysolelyfor thelackof receiptsor foryour failureto ensurethe performanceto allscheduledmaintenance.

As the smalloff-roadengineowner,youshouldhoweverbeawarethat MTDmaydenyyour warrantycoverageif yoursmalloff-roadengineorparthasfaileddue toabuse,neglect,impropermaintenanceor unapprovedmodifications.

Youare responsiblefor presentingyour smalloff-roadengineto an AuthorizedMTDServiceDealeras soonas a problemexists.Thewarrantedrepairsshouldbe completedina reasonableamountof time,notto exceed30 days.

DEFECTS WARRANTY REQUIREMENTS FOR 1995 AND LATER SMALL OFF-ROAD ENGINES:

Thissectionappliesto 1995andlater smalloff-roadengines.The warrantyperiodbeginsonthe datethe engineor equipmentis deliveredto anultimatepurchaser.

(a) GeneralEmissionsWarrantyCoverage

MTDmustwarrantto the ultimatepurchaserandeachsubsequentpurchaserthat the engineis:

(1)Designed,built,andequippedsoas to conformwithallapplicableregulationsadoptedby the AirResourcesBoardpursuantto itsauthorityinChapters1and2,Part5, Division26of the HealthandSafetyCode;and

(2) Freefromdefectsin materialsandworkmanshipthatcausethe failureof a warrantedpart to beidenticalin all materialrespectsto the partasdescribedin theenginemanufacturer'sapplicationfor certificationfora periodof twoyears.

(b)The warrantyonemissions-relatedpartswill be interpretedas follows:

(1)Anywarrantedpart that is not scheduledfor replacementas requiredmaintenanceinthe writteninstructionsrequiredby Subsection(c)mustbewarrantedfor the warrantyperioddefinedinSubsection(a)(2). Ifany suchpartfailsduringthe periodof warrantycoverage,it mustberepairedor replacedby MTDaccordingto Subsection(4)below.Anysuchpart repairedor replacedunder thewarrantymustbewarrantedforthe remainingwarrantyperiod.

(2)Any warrantedpartthat is scheduledonlyfor regularinspectionin the writteninstructionsrequiredby Subsection(c) must bewarrantedforthewarrantyperioddefinedin Subsection(a)(2).A statementinsuchwritteninstructionsto the effectof "repairor replaceas necessary"willnot reducethe periodof warrantycoverage.Anysuchpart repairedor replacedunderwarrantymustbe warrantedforthe remainingwarrantyperiod.

(3) Anywarrantedpartthat whichis scheduledfor replacementas requiredmaintenancein the writteninstructionsrequiredby Subsection(c)mustbewarrantedfor the periodof timeprior to the first scheduledreplacementpointforthat part. If the part failspriorto thefirst scheduledreplacement,the part mustbe repairedor replacedby MTDaccordingto Subsection(4) below.Any suchpart repairedor replacedunderwarrantymustbewarrantedfor the remainderof the periodpriorto the first scheduledreplacementpointfor the part.

(4)Repairorreplacementofanywarrantedpartunderthewarrantyprovisionsofthisarticlemustbeperformedatnochargetotheowneratawarrantystation.(5)NotwithstandingtheprovisionsofSubsection(4)above,warrantyservicesorrepairsmustbeprovidedatallMTDdistributioncentersthatarefranchisedtoservicethesubjectengines.(6)Theownermustnotbechargedfordiagnosticlaborthatleadstothedeterminationthatawarrantedpartisinfactdefective,providedthatsuchdiagnosticworkisperformedatawarrantystation.(7)Theenginemanufacturerisliablefordamagestootherenginecomponentsproximatelycausedbyafailureunderwarrantyofanywarrantedpart.(8)Throughouttheengine'swarrantyperioddefinedinSubsection(a)(2),MTDwillmaintainasupplyofwarrantedpartssufficienttomeettheexpecteddemandforsuchparts.(9)Anyreplacementpartmaybeusedintheperformanceofanywarrantymaintenanceorrepairsandmustbeprovidedwithoutchargetotheowner.SuchusewillnotreducethewarrantyobligationsofMTD.(10)Add-onormodifiedpartsthatarenotexemptedbytheAirResourcesBoardmaynotbeused.Theuseofanynon-exemptedadd-onormodifiedpartsshallbegroundsfordisallowingawarrantyclaimmadeinaccordancewiththisarticle.Theenginemanufacturershallnotbeliableunderthisarticletowarrantfailuresofwarrantedpartscausedbytheuseofnon-exemptedadd-onormodifiedpart.

Look For Relevant Emissions Durability Period andAir index information On Your Engine Emissions Label

Engines that are certified to meet the California Air Resources Board (CARB) Tier 2 Emission Standards mustdisplay information regarding the Emissions Durability Period and the Air Index. Sears, Roebuck and Co., U.S.A.makes this information available to the consumer on our emission labels.

The Emissions Durability Period describes the number of hours of actual running time for which the engine iscertified to be emissions compliant, assuming proper maintenance in accordance with the Operating & Mainte-nance Instructions. The following categories are used:

Moderate: Engine is certified to be emission compliant for 125 hours of actual engine running time.

Intermediate: Engine is certified to be emission compliant for 250 hours of actual engine running time.

Extended: Engine is certified to be emission compliant for 500 hours of actual engine running time.

For example, a typical walk-behind lawn mower is used 20 to 25 hours per year. Therefore, the EmissionsDurability Period of an engine with an intermediate rating would equate to 10 to 12 years.

The Air Index is a calculated number describing the relative level of emissions for a specific engine family. Thelower the Air Index, the cleaner the engine. This information is displayed in graphical form on the emissions label.

After July 1,2000, Look For Emissions Compliance Period

On Engine Emissions Compliance Label

After July 1, 2000 certain Sears, Roebuck and Co., U.S.A. engines will be certified to meet the United StatesEnvironmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Phase 2 emission standards. For Phase 2 certified engines, the Emis-sions Compliance Period referred to on the Emissions Compliance label indicates the number of operating hoursfor which the engine has been shown to meet Federal emission requirements.

For engines less than 225 cc displacement, Category C = 125 hours, B = 250 hours and A = 500 hours.

For engines of 225 cc or more, Category C = 250 hours, B = 500 hours and A = 1000 hours.

This is a generic representation of the emission label typically found on a certified engine.

Los motores cuyo cumpiimiento con los estAndares de emisi6n Tier 2 de la Comisi6n de Recursos Ambientales de California (CARB)est6 certificado deben exhibir la informaci6n relacionada con el perJodo de duraci6n de las emisiones y la clasificaci6n de aire. Sears,Roebuck and Co., de los Estados Unidos ponen esta informaci6n a disposici6n deJconsumidor en nuestras etiquetas de emisiones.

El Periodo de Duraci6n de las Emisiones describe el nQmero de horas de tiempo real de funcionamiento para el cual se certifica queel motor cumple con las reglas de emisi6n, descontando el mantenimiento adecuado deJmismo segQn las instrucciones de oper-aci6n y mantenimiento. Se utilizan las siguientes categorias:

Moderado:Se certifica que el motor cumpie con las reglas de emisi6n durante 125 horas de tiempo real de funcionamiento deJmotor.

Inmediato:Se certifica que el motor cumple con las reglas de emisi6n durante 250 horas de tiempo real de funcionamiento deJ motor.

Extendido:Se certifica que el motor cumple con las reglas de emisi6n durante 500 horas de tiempo real de funcionamiento deJmotor.

Por ejemplo, una cortadora de c6sped tJpica que se empuja desde atrAs se usa entre 20 y 25 horas por afio. Por Io tanto, el Periodo

de Duraci6n de Emisiones de un motor con una clasificaci6n intermedia seria equivalente a entre 10 y 12 afios.

Laclasificaci6n de aJre es un nQmero calculado para describir eJnivel reiativo de emisiones para un grupo de motores en particular.Cuanto menor sea Jaclasificaci6n de aire, mayor es JaJimpieza deJmotor. La informaci6n se presenta de forma gr&fica en Jaetiquetade emisiones.

Despu_s del 1 de julio de 2000, busque el periodo de cumplimiento de las reglas deemisiones en la etiqueta de cumplimiento de las reglas de emisiones del motor

Despu_s deJ 1 de julio de 2000 se certificar_, que determinados motores Sears, Roebuck and Co., de los Estados Unidoscumpien con los estAndares de emisiones de la fase 2 de la Agencia de Protecci6n Ambiental de los Estados Unidos (USE-PA). Para los motores con desplazamiento inferior a 225 cc, Categoria C = 125 horas, B = 250 horas y A = 500 horas.

Para los motores con desplazamiento de 225 cc o mAs, Categoria C = 250 horas, B = 500 horas y A = 1000 horas.

El despiazamiento de los motores de la serie modelo 150112 es 249 cc.
