Parts of a Cell ReviewSNC2D
Question 3:In plant cells, this part of the cell stores
water causing the plant to become firm
Vacuole
Question 14: Name at least two life processes that cells
need to maintain.
• Intake of nutrients, movement, growth, response to environment (stimuli), exchange of gases, waste removal, reproduction
Question 1:Which part of the cell supplies the energy
for the cell by converting energy in sugar into energy that the cell can use?
Mitochondria
Question 2:Which part of the cell is made up of a
double layer of lipids (fat-like molecules)?
Cell Membrane
Question 5:Contains chlorophyll, which uses energy
from the Sun to convert carbon dioxide and water into sugar and oxygen
chloroplast
Question 4:These fibers help the cell to maintain its
shape
cytoskeleton
Question 6:This is where proteins are assembled
ribosomes
Question 7:The organelles are suspended in this
substance. It contains nutrients for the cell
cytoplasm
Question 10:The function of this organelle is to modify,
sort, and package proteins for delivery throughout the cell
Golgi Apparatus
Question 9:Control center of the cell, controlling
growth and reproduction. Also contains DNA.
Nucleus
Question 15: This contains the nutrients required by the
cell to carry out life processes.
Cytoplasm
Question 8:These organelles use enzymes to digest
nutrients. These organelles also break down bacteria and damaged cell organelles
Lysosomes
Question 11:This organelle carries materials
throughout the cells
Endoplasmic Reticulum
Question 18:This organelle looks like a stack of pancakes
Golgi Apparatus
Question 16: This organelle contains pores on the outside
to allow the transport of materials
Nucleus
Question 13:This organelle is only found in plant cells. It is
a rigid frame around the cell that provides strength, protection, and support for the cell.
Cell Wall
Question 12:This organelle is associated with the
production of fats and oils
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum
Question 17:This organelle is also known as the “clean-up
system” in the cell
Lysosome

5 Differences Between Plants and Animals
• Plants cells contain chlorophyll, animal cells do not
• Plants cells contain large vacuole in the centre of the cell; animal cells vacuoles are much smaller
• Plant cells store energy in the form of starch or oils; animal cells store energy in the form of carbohydrates or fats
• Animal cells have specialized compounds such as cholesterol
• Animal cells contain centrioles (used in mitosis)
