A note from the Club President . . .

First Steps ! I would never have imagined as I walked into the July meeting of the Capital City Camera Club that I would walk out having been elected to the office of club president. During the 5-1/2 years that Chuck Rice served as president, he worked tirelessly, made some remarkable strides and le" me with some really big shoes to #ll. I intend to step up to the challenge and, with your help, use his tradition of excellence as my guide.

We have an outstanding new board of officers as well as some equally talented members who have volunteered to serve on several of our commi$ees. I look forward to working with each and every one of them. %e officers and commi$ee members are listed on the previous page, and we have already begun working on future programs, #eld trips, workshops and activities designed to teach us, entertain us, and whet our creative appetites. Additionally, we are exploring ways to get more membership information out to the community and reach others who share our interest in photography. Please don’t hesitate to discuss your ideas with us to help in the planning process or, even be$er, volunteer to serve on one of the commi$ees yourself. I encourage you to be an active partner in growing our club.

%ank you for the con#dence in me and support you have expressed. By working together, we can continue to make the Capital City Camera Club the best ever!

Chuck Rice conducted the July 13, 2010, meeting of the Capital City Camera Club and opened the meeting by welcoming several new guests.

#e following officers were elected: President - Sue Sizemore; Vice President - Rene!e Jodoin; and Secretary - Rhonda Goode. Chuck will remain on the Executive Board as Past President. Bryan Hasler was elected Treasurer at the June meeting to replace Don Ball.

Chuck then addressed the need for active commi!ees to help the club be all that it can be. He called for volunteers and the following commi!ees were "lled. It was decided a business meeting of the club officers and commi!ee members would be held on July 26 at 6:30 p.m. at Eastmont Baptist Church.

FIELD TRIP COMMI%EE: Jennifer Barker, Jennifer Brown, Pam Long, Carl Saunders and Darryl Spaulding MEMBERSHIP COMMI%EE: Roger Jodoin, Mit Fontaine, and Jackie Webber PROG&M COMMI%EE: Be!y Beasley, Diana Bunch, Patsy Heaton and Caryl Lawson

CCCC Field Trip - September 18, 2010

In the 1930s, Cason and Virginia Callaway discovered a place of pristine beauty with exquisite natural springs in west central Georgia. Because of their enchantment with the area, they purchased thousands of acres of depleted cotton fields, including the land that is Callaway Gardens today.

With a mind towards conservation, the Callaways began developing the environment, cultivating the native flora—including the rare prunifolia azalea (aka the plumleaf azalea) that grows wild here—and creating a respite from the world. Their plans were to invite their closest friends to their retreat, but as the Gardens began to take shape, they longed to share it with everyone. Their dreams came true in 1952 when Ida Cason Gardens opened to the public.

Alabama Frontier DaysThe most authentic Living History event in the state, Alabama Frontier Days is a reenactment of Alabama's 18-19th century from French Colonial times to the early American period. Includes Native American reenactors, period traders, merchants and entertainers. Alabama Frontier Days is a wonderful opportunity to see the unique culture of the South as it was transformed from Creek Indian lands to pioneer settler forts and homesteads during the period of 1700 to 1820. French Fort Toulouse will be occupied by a full force of authentically costumed French Colonial Marines and a War of 1812 camp will be set up next to Fort Jackson. We have also scheduled various demonstrations and period entertainments. A partial list of the demonstrations includes:
