What you need to do – before

• Include information about the day of action in at least 2 emails in the 2 weeks before the day

• These can be any emails that go out to groups within the students’ union, but we’d recommend they are emails to two separate groups

• Remember to copy in or forward to ‘[email protected]’ so we can make note of it

• Include info about what we need them to do and the prizes available (from you and from NUS)

What you need to do – during

• Share at least 2 of our messages on social media about the day of action

• You can create your own messages and use #snapitoff and/or @nusuk to make sure we see it

• We will be taking note of how many photos are submitted from each students’ union and from each student (and we’ll let you have this information if you request it)

What you need to do – after

• We will let you know who the winning student is from your students’ union by the Friday following the day of action and we ask you to organise delivery of their prize

• If there is a tie-break for the winning student, choose the winner at random

• Getting the most submissions on this day will give you an excellent chance of winning the annual £500 from Snap It Off!, which goes to the students’ union that uploads the most photos over the year

• Don’t forget that by taking part you can tick off the GISU criterion B029 (commercial) or B013 (non-commercial)

So, what are you planning?

Ideas that were shared in the webinar from unions present…

• Putting up posters in the bars and refectory areas on all campuses• Snap It Off selfie competitions• Competitions between sports teams to submit the best photos• Organising a walk around campus to spot eco-crimes• We are hoping to get one member of our Green Team on each of our 3 main campuses to chat to all

the students face to face as well! • Exec team are all going to be promoting it • Hitting the town and see what eco-crimes we can see on the high street• Our equality & diversity officer would like to post a picture on the place we find the power

wastage...so you pop a picture on the door of the room (think guerilla marketing)• Love the lights off party to tie in with diwali (festival of light)• Linking in with Halloween celebrations• Involving staff as well as students• Ending a walk-round campus with a party in our Secret Garden at UCLan• Partnering with local schools• Tying in our snap it off action day with the launch of UoG Powerdown (student halls energy saving

competition!). • Engaging with others in the city – other colleges or universities• Snap it off flash mob

Questions?

Questions that were raised in the webinar…

Q: How will you know which SU students are from?A: They are asked to submit that info when they upload the photo

Q: How many photos were submitted by the end of year winners – Cardiff - in 2013-4? A: 37 photos – and the top union wins £500 for environmental projects! Worth putting some effort into this as the union whose students submit the most photos across the year wins the money!
