Art Activity : Year of the Snake You will need: 2 sheets of A4 paper, glue, scissors, pencil (optional: paint, textas, googly eyes) Method: 1. Glue 2 sheets of paper together along the short ends to make a long, narrow sheet. 2. Fold the sheet in half length wise. Cut along the fold, creating two narrow strips. 3. Fold one strip in half length wise. Cut along the fold. 4. Fold the other strip in half length wise. Mark 10cm from one end. Draw a curve from the fold out to the edge of the strip at the 10cm mark. With the paper is still folded, cut along the curve. This is the head of the snake. 5. Unfold the strip. Starting at the opposite end to the head, cut along the fold but stop 10cm from the end. 6. Glue the strips from Step 3 onto the strip with the head so that you have the head at one end and two long narrow strips at the other. 7. Holding the head of the snake in one hand, fold one of the paper strips at 90 degrees across the other piece close to the head. Then fold the other strip back over the first. 8. Continue folding alternate strips back over each other, creating a concertina, until you reach the end of the paper strips. 9. Glue the ends together to secure them in place. You can trim any longer bits (we cut ours to a point). 10. Make a tongue using a thin piece of paper. Wrap the paper around a pencil to make it curl, then glue it onto the front of the snake. 11. Draw on some eyes or grab some googly eyes and glue them on! Top Tip: Decorate your paper with paint or textas before you start. That way you’ll have a colourful snake!

Art Activity:

Year of the Snake

You will need:

2 sheets of A4 paper, glue, scissors, pencil (optional: paint, textas, googly eyes)

Method:

Draw a curve from the fold out to the

edge of the strip at the 10cm mark. With the paper is still folded, cut along the curve. This is the head of

the snake.

5. Unfold the strip. Starting at the opposite end to the head, cut along the fold but stop 10cm from the end.

6. Glue the strips from Step 3 onto the strip with the head so that you have the head at one end and two

long narrow strips at the other.

7. Holding the head of the snake in one hand, fold one of the paper strips at 90 degrees across the other

piece close to the head. Then fold the other strip back over the first.

8. Continue folding alternate strips back over each other, creating a concertina, until you reach the end of

the paper strips.

9. Glue the ends together to secure them in place. You can trim any longer bits (we cut ours to a point).

10. Make a tongue using a thin piece of paper. Wrap the paper around a pencil to make it curl, then glue it

onto the front of the snake.

11. Draw on some eyes – or grab some googly eyes and glue them on!

Top Tip: Decorate your paper with paint or textas before you start. That way you’ll have a

colourful snake!
