GOAL To make comparative sentences using adjective cards and a snakes

and ladders game board.

GRAMMAR Comparatives LEVEL High-beginner

THEME Any TIME 30 minutes

Preparation   Make one copy of the Snakes & Ladders Template and

Adjective Cards for each group.

  Cut out the cards.

Procedure 1.  Ask the students to get into groups of 4 or 5 people.

2.  Give one Snakes & Ladders game board and one set of cards

to each group. Ask the students to put the cards face down.

3.  Ask the students to get two coins for the group and a space

marker for each person.

Heads, heads = move 1

Tails, tails = move 2

Heads, tails = move 3

4.  Ask the students to put their space markers on Start . The first

student flips the coins, moves the corresponding number of

spaces on the game board, and follows the instructions on the

game board.

Head of the snake = move to the tail of the snake

Bottom of the ladder = move to the top of the ladder

Starred space = take a card from the pile and make a

sentence using the word to compare two things.

5.  Students continue taking turns. The first student to reach

 Finish is the winner.

Example sentences:

It’s warmer than yesterday.

I’m taller than Yuki.
