01_Chairman’s + Organiser’s WelcomeWard Hansford Chair, SMPTE Australia Section

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN EXPLORING, COMMUNICATING AND NETWORKING WITH THE ENTERTAINMENT TECHNOLOGY EXPERTS?

SMPTE11 is the premier event for showcasing media and entertainment technology in the Asia-Pacifi c region. With 100+ exhibitors from the major industry brands, representation from our fellow associations ACS, AES, & WIFT, plus a full conference program including 60 presentations, 23 workshops and 90 participants, SMPTE11 is essential for keeping abreast of the technological revolution that is driving our industry.

Look out for the The Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS) compelling panel session on The Production Designer, Art director and the DOP.

Be sure not to miss the “Sound for Cinema and TV” session, produced by our colleagues from the Audio Engineering Society.

Visit Career Corner for newcomers, as well as experienced professionals, where you can explore job opportunities. Career Corner is for the whole industry and is an initiative of Women in Film and Television.

Hear from keynote speaker Howard H Lukk, the Vice President of Production Technology from Walt Disney Studios - an open

session, and not to be missed.

This year we have introduced a new per-session pricing option, which makes the Conference more affordable and extraordinary value for money. This new model affords the greatest fl exibility in choice of sessions and experiences. Check out the event website and follow the links to register simply and quickly and to update on the latest special offers. www.smpte.com.au

Conference Sessions will again be on the Exhibition Floor allowing you access to the latest technology displays without missing any of the exciting Presentations, Boot Camps and Master Classes. Our industry continues to diversify and grow in complexity.

The job we do as technologists, practitioners and creatives is changing. Increasingly the key metric by which we are measured is knowledge - and knowledge is power. SMPTE serves its members and the industry as a whole, by delivering access to the latest technology information and education opportunity in a rapidly changing landscape. As the leading technical society for the motion imaging industry SMPTE is helping to guide the future of the continuously developing content business.

Ward Hansford has been associated with the communications and television industry for over 28 years and currently holds the position of Regional VP ANZ & SE Asia, for Ericsson Television.

ON BEHALF OF EXPERTISE EVENTS, WELCOME TO SMPTE11 CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION.The media industry continues to change

rapidly with new technologies being

introduced every day. Technology has

also impacted the way we work – the lines between work and home

have blurred, and demands on a person’s time have increased.

When making decisions about technology for your television

network, cinema house, production facility, or content delivery

network you don’t have the luxury of time to consider the next

big purchase, and further, it will have to pay for itself rapidly.

Industry executives need answers, and the Exhibition is the perfect

environment to apprise yourself of all the latest information available.

SMPTE Conference and Exhibition is the pre-eminent event for the

motion-imaging, sound and broadcast industries in the Australasian

region. With over 100 exhibitors from the major industry brands

and niche solution providers, representation of the key industry

associations, and a comprehensive Conference program, SMPTE11

delivers the knowledge and information you need.

SMPTE Australia Section is the leader of the industry and

strives to bring you the most relevant industry event available.

Acknowledging the surplus of events competing for your attention

we have listened to industry feedback and have worked with

Entech to create the Australasian Media and Technology Week.

Our decision to support the co-location of SMPTE11 with the

Entech Intech sound and lighting industry exhibition demonstrates

SMPTE’s commitment to the industry, and delivers two exhibitions

under only one entry ticket.

This year we welcome AES joining ACS and WIFT to support the

event with Conference content and a presence on the Exhibition

fl oor. Conference sessions have been reviewed to include a fl exible

pricing structure to accommodate all budgets and work schedules.

In the Associations area we also have a display of historical

equipment – have a look at how much technology has changed.

SMPTE Australia Section members give up their time voluntarily

to put the event together; we thank the event committee for their

efforts to create an interesting and stimulating Conference program

for the industry.

The team at Expertise Events hope you enjoy SMPTE11 as much

as we enjoyed putting it together. Your Exhibition entry ticket

includes access to Entech Intech – two shows, 150 great exhibitors!

Yours sincerely

Gary Fitz-Roy, Managing Director, Expertise Events

Where it’s mission critical – ISO9000

quality management, innovative use of

the newest technologies and obsessive

attention to detail are some of the reasons

governments choose GigaSat for secure

data, satellite communications.

GigaSat is a designer, manufacturer

and integrator of specialist satellite

systems, and as such has control over

the performance and specifi cation of

its products, enabling it to respond to

customer requirements with new designs

in a short time.

Considerable inward investment in

research and development and the biggest

range of products keeps GigaSat ahead of

the competition. Customers are guaranteed

to receive equipment that provides

repeatable high performance in the world’s

toughest environments.

This capability has resulted in some

unique systems for the satellite industry,

including the world’s largest true fl yaway

system at 3.7m, deployed around the

world where large transportable C-band

systems are needed, but a trailer mounted

solution is too cumbersome.
