THE AVETT BROTHERS, a folky rock band from Concord, North Carolina, are appearing for the second time at the Savannah Music Festival this year. The band consisits of two brothers-Scott Avett, playing the banjo and Seth Avett, playing the guitar. Bob Crawford plays the stand-up bass, Joe Kwon is on cello, and Jacob Edwards on the drums. On September 11, 2012 The Avett Brothers released their 6th full-length album The Carpenter. It debuted at number 4 on the Billboard Top 200. The band will be performing Sunday, June 14 at the Lucas Theatre.

WILCO is an American alternative rock band based in Chicago, Illinois. The band was formed in 1994 by the remaining members of alternative country group Uncle Tupelo following singer Jay Farrar’s departure. Wilco’s lineup has changed frequently, with only singer Jeff Tweedy and bassist John Stirratt remaining from the original incarnation. Since early 2004, the other current members are guitarist Nels Cline, multi-instrumentalists Pat Sansone and Mikael Jorgensen, and drummer Glenn Kotche. Wilco has released eight studio albums and will play SMF on Friday, June 12.

BAND OF HORSES is an American rock band formed in 2004 in Seattle by Ben Bridwell. The band has released four studio albums, the most successful of which is 201w0’s Grammy-nominated Infinite Arms. The band’s lineup consists of Bridwell, Ryan Monroe, Tyler Ramsey, Bill Reynolds, and Creighton Barrett, who have all been with the band for several years. Band of Horses’ fourth studio album, Mirage Rock, was released in September 2012. They will be performing Saturday, June 13 at the SCAD theatre.

PUNCH BROTHERS are a progressive bluegrass band. The band consists of Chris Thile (mandolin), Gabe Witcher (fiddle/violin), Noam Pikelny (banjo), Chris Eldridge (guitar), and Paul Kowert (bass). Their style has been described as “bluegrass instrumentation and spontaneity in the strictures of modern classical.” Thile formed the band in 2006 to record the album How to Grow a Woman from the Ground. Punch Brothers will be making their debut performance at SMF on Friday, June 12 at the SCAD theatre.

GRACE POTTER AND THE NOCTURNALS is an American rock band from Vermont. Formed in 2002 in Waitsfield, VT, they began their career as an indie band, self-producing their albums and touring extensively in the jam bands and music festivals circuit, playing as many as 200 gigs in a year. The band’s appeal and public image is largely due to lead vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Grace Potter (born 20 June 1983), who is well known for her vocal qualities (sometimes compared to rock and blues cult singers like Janis Joplin or Koko Taylor) as well as for her vibrant energy on stage. The band will perform Saturday night at the SCAD theatre.

ANDREW BIRD is an American musician, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. Trained in the Suzuki method from the age of four, Bird graduated from Northwestern University with a bachelor’s degree in violin performance in 1996. That same year he self-released his first solo album, Music of Hair. Vastly different from his later work, this album showcased his violin skills and paid tribute to his fascination with both American and European folk traditions, as well as jazz and blues. Bird is performing for the first time at SMF Friday, June 12 at the Lucas theatre.

Modern Skirts is an alternative rock band based in Athens, GA. Formed in early 2004, the band quickly gained popularity and notoriety in the Athens music scene thanks largely to the buzz created by their high-energy live shows in the Athens area, mostly at the world-famous 40 Watt Club. August 2005 saw the independent release of their debut album, titled Catalogue of Generous Men. Modern Skirts prominent use of the piano derives from the significant influences of groups such as The Beach Boys. They will perform Friday, June 12 at the SCAD theatre.

little tybee LITTLE TYBEE, named for one of the Low Country’s own backwater islands, is simply a group of friends who couldn’t stop making music together if they tried. The core of each of their songs begins in the relentless and creative mind of vocalist/guitarist/pianist Brock Scott. The songs mature through the dedicated musicianship of 8-string guitarist Josh Martin, violinist Nirvana Kelly, bassist Ryan Donald, and percussionist Pat Brooks. WThey will make their debut at SMF Friday, June 12 at the SCAD theatre.

THE HEAD AND THE HEART is an indie folk-pop band from Seattle, Washington. Formed in the summer of 2009 by Josiah Johnson (vocals, guitar, percussion) and Jonathan Russell (vocals, guitar, percussion), the band also includes Charity Rose Thielen (violin, vocals), Chris Zasche (bass), Kenny Hensley (piano), and Tyler Williams (drums). The band self-released their debut album The Head and The Heart in June 2009, selling it at concerts, by word of mouth, and through local record stores. Their music plays heavily on the trio of vocal harmonies, piano and violin melodies, and prominent drums and percussion. The Head and The Heart will perform Sunday, June 14 at the SCAD theatre.

futurebirds

FUTUREBIRDS are an indie rock band from Athens, Georgia. Their first album, Hampton’s Lullaby, was released on on July 27, 2010. Futurebirds are known for their high energy shows and country rock infused sound. Their music incorporates reverb-soaked four-part harmonies supported by pedal steel guitar, rhythmic percussion, banjo, mandolin, and acoustic and electric guitars with heavy feedback, and has been described as ‘psychedelic country’. Futurebirds will perform Saturday, June 13 at the Lucas Theatre.

BELA FLECK is an American banjo player. Widely acknowl-edged as one of the world’s most innovative and technically proficient banjo players, he is best known for his work with the bands New Grass Revival and Béla Fleck and the Flecktones. Fleck was born in New York City, New York, and is named after Hungarian composer Béla Bartók. He was drawn to the banjo when he first heard Earl Scruggs play the theme song for the television show Beverly Hillbillies. Fleck received his first banjo at age fifteen from his grandfather. Bela Fleck will be performing at the SMF on Sunday, June 14 at the SCAD theatre.

THE LOST BAYOU RAMBLERS are a Grammy-nominated Cajun music band from Louisiana. The Ramblers were born deep in South Louisiana performing old style, acoustic Cajun music at clubs and festivals across the US, Europe, and Canada. They were formed in 1999 by Louis Michot (fiddle and vocals) and his brother Andre Michot (cajun accordion and lap steel guitar) and grew to include Cavan Carruth (electric guitar) and Paul Etheredge (drums) The Ramblers will be performing at SMF Sunday, June 14 in Forsyth Park.

derek trucksDEREK TRUCKS is a guitarist, songwriter and founder of the Grammy Award winning The Derek Trucks Band. In 1999 and formed the Tedeschi Trucks Band with his wife Susan Tedeschi. His musical style encompasses several genres and he has twice appeared on Rolling Stone’s list of 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time; currently 16th on the list. His music is reported to encompass categories such as jam band, Southern rock and jazz while being rooted in the blues and rock genres. Trucks will be performing Sunday, June 14 at the Lucas.

she and himSHE & HIM is an indie duo consisting of Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward. The band’s first album, Volume One, was released on Merge Records in March 2008. Deschanel and Ward first met on the set of the film The Go-Getter, in which the actress had a starring role. The director, Martin Hynes, introduced them to each other and asked them to sing a duet together to be played at the end credits of the film. She and Him will be performing at SMF Saturday, June 13 at the SCAD theatre.

LYLE LOVETT is an American country singer-songwriter and actor.

Active since 1980, he has recorded thirteen albums and released

21 singles to date, including his highest entry, the number 10 chart

hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, “Cowboy Man”.

Lovett has won four Grammy Awards, including Best Male Country

Vocal Performance and Best Country Album. Lovett’s music career

began as a songwriter, but he soon signed with MCA Records in

1986 and released his eponymous debut album. Lovett will perform

Sunday, June 14 at the Lucas Theatre.

GEORGE “BUDDY” GUY is an American blues guitarist and singer. Critically acclaimed, he is a pioneer of the Chicago blues sound and has served as an influence to some of the most notable musicians of his generation, including Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Ranked 30th in Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time”, Guy is known for his showmanship on stage: playing his guitar with drumsticks or strolling into the audience while playing solos. His song “Stone Crazy” was ranked 78th in Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time. Guy will perform Saturday, June 13 at the Lucas.
