Introduction smcdesigninc is a collection of experience landscape architects, designers and project managers who specialise in forward-thinking landscape architecture with a singular desire to explore relationships among the Arts, Culture and Nature, where our design approach is not to have a

repeating formula of style. We have proven experience on a wide range of projects, with varying scopes and budgets, and at all stages of the design process, from initial planning to construction supervision and handover. smcdesigninc offers a complete landscape consultancy service, incorporating landscape design, environmental planning, horticulture, land management and conservation.

Our spectrum of landscape work ranges from residential communities and leisure developments to detailed design of hard and soft landscape elements for housing and commercial areas, parks and individual buildings. Dubai Logistic City Dubai, United Arab Emirates Client: Dar Al Handasah

Scope: Concept to Tender

Developing a landscape master

plan for the Dubai Logistics City at

Dubai World Central, a mixed use

development linking and supporting

the proposed Al Maktoum

International Airport, which has

completed in 2012.

Dubai Logistics City represents the

world’s first logistics facility for air, sea

and road services and covers a total

area of 2,206 hectares. The DLC

Headquarters and Office Park

covers an area of 57 hectares with a

total built-up area of 500,000m2 of

offices as well as 57,000m2 of hotels.

This area is expected to have an

estimated employment of 17,000.

The landscape scope of work covers

the design of streetscape and open

space to serve this extensive

warehousing and forwarders

facilities linked with the airport as

well as detail design of Logistic City

Business Park, Staff Village and the

Humanitarian City.

Following a winning entry in an

international design competition,

the design to first phase of

development for 7,000 female

students, including architecture,

engineering, building services and

landscape architecture, was

carried out in close collaboration

with joint venture partner, HOK

Washington, USA.

Conceptualized as an oasis, the

extensive landscape master plan

incorporates:

Jahli Park Al Ain, United Arab Emirates Client: Al Ain Municipality

Owner: Government of Abu

Dhabi




Directly engaged to design and

supervise Jahli Park, Al Ain.

The design integrates the existing

Public Gardens and Fort surrounds,

currently separate entities, creating

a dramatic open space in the heart

of Al Ain.

Intended to be the premium public

open space of the city, the design

addresses the Fort in a

contemporary manner, while

maintaining the heritage integrity of

the Fort.

Part of the design process included

presentation and approval of the

scheme by UNESCO as Jahli Fort is a

significant historical feature of the

city of Al Ain, and the United Arab

Hili Road Al Ain, United Arab Emirates Client: Al Ain Municipality

Commissioned by the Al Ain

Municipality to provide landscape

design and supervision services for

the streetscape refurbishment of 4.5

km of Hili Road in Al Ain.

With the redevelopment site

stretching between the Hili area

precinct and Baniyas Road, this

new public realm landscape will

function as a significant entrance

gateway for the town.

A concept of ‘living carpet’ was

employed and intends to bring life,

colour and pattern to the

landscape of Hili Road, being

demonstrated in pattern, texture

and colour in planting and

materials.

Scope of work includes:

• Linked bicycle paths

• ‘Green respite’ pocket parks that

will take the form of new

children’s playgrounds, shaded

The water feature plays an

important role to the mall. One of

the water wall or fondly known by

the visitors as Divers’ Wall.

The water wall runs through the

entire height of the mall, about 30m

high, traversing all four levels, and is

adorned with art sculptures of

human divers made of fibre-glass to

create a dynamic visual spectrum

that complements the rhythmic flow

of water.

planning of a resort in Karachi,

Pakistan.

The site covers a 7.5 km2 at an

altitude of 1700 meters offering a

cool destination during the summer

months.

The design included the

development of a lake, village

ZUL AL-YUSOUF DESIGN PRINCIPAL

Zul is a project designer with a broad range of experience in Tropical and Middle Eastern Landscape Architecture. During his 17 years as a designer, he has worked abroad for 7 years, particularly in Middle East. As a result, he has developed “flexibility of

approach” in solving complex design problems and has become adept at exercising basic tenet of landscape architecture with subtle complexity of culture and contextual geography to achieve superlative standards. His experience has led to the successful completion of

various award winning landmark landscape design project developments around South Asia, South-East Asia and the Middle East.
