Introduction• This document presents the new version of SmartStream Designer for illustrator 20 for Adobe illustrator CC 2015.3

Adobe Illustrator CC (2015.3) OS requirements

New Barcode Shortcut• New button that will lead directly to the IDAutomation Barcode window

• Two available modes – New and Edit

• If a previously defined barcode is highlighted in the job – Edit mode will open the Dynamic window with the previously selected settings.

• If anything else is highlighted – New mode will open the Dynamic window with the default settings.

Template section• Template – lists the templates for the chosen

Buttons• Duplicate Template button Replaces the

current “save as template button”. Opens a browser in order to save a copy of the selected template. Once saved, this template will be the one edited and used.

• Edit Template button opens the chosen application’s editing UI. “Read only” templates will instead show the Preview button and function similarly

• Refresh Data button will refresh the data/mapping option. This button will only be available if the template was edited in a way that requires changes to the mapping options. Otherwise it will be hidden

• Full path to the template will not be part of the window but will still appear fully in a tool tip when the mouse hovers over the Template name

Data Section• Each application/template combination will have pre-defined values that need to be mapped.

– In cases where the number of values does not fit in the window the Data section will have a scroll bar.

• Each of these values can be mapped in one of three ways – Field from DB, Rule, or fixed value– Dropdown list will include all the fields in the database, followed by a Separator and the Rules in the job, followed by a

separator and “Fixed value”

– Selecting “Fixed Value” will enable the text box next to the drop down list. Otherwise the box will be hidden.

– In this box, any value can be typed and used

– In Dynamic Image Personalization, (in cases where the input is an image) an additional Browse button is available to the right of the text box. Pressing it will open a browser window allowing the selection of image files. After selecting the image and pressing Ok the full path to the image will appear in the text box


Data Section• When pressing ok

– If all the map able options use fixed values, the data will appear as fixed text in the job.

– If any of the map able fields are variable, the data will appear like any other variable data (i.e show DB value without preview and the actual dynamic output when Designer is in preview mode)


IDAutomation Barcodes• Clicking on the will open the IDAutomation Barcode

window

• Settings:– Create and define 1D and 2D barcodes using ID automation

– Barcode Type – will list all types that are available for the selected format

– Note: Each type has its specific parameters available for selection

• Sample:– Input

• If field was mapped before entering the window, Input will include the 1st record of that field

• If Fixed value was typed before entering the window, Input will include that text

• If no selection was made before entering the window, Input will be empty

– Output – previews the Input with the selected barcode and its properties


IDAutomation Barcodes• Errors – in case of an error, the output box will be

empty and a red warning will appear below the output box

• Save – will override current template file. Will be grayed out when editing read only files.

• Save as – will open a small pop up window asking for name. by default it will offer “<current template name>_1”

• Cancel – closes the window and discards all changes

Shuffle Spot Colors colors• Checking this box will shuffle the spot colors in use in the

selected Seed

• When checking the box, the system will check whether there are recognizable spot colors in the seed

– If PDF Separation object was found, but with a different pattern, popup informing the user that “Unsupported Spot Color was detected, save the seed file with Adobe Illustrator, and save the seed file as PDF, with Adobe PDF Preset, and select Standard as None”.

– If there are no spot colors in the seed, popup informing the user that “Spot Colors were not detected. Define new Spot colors with Adobe Illustrator, and save the seed file as PDF”

– The check box will be grayed out after closing the pop-up. Hovering above it will show a tooltip saying “No supported Spot colors detected in Seed”

– If at least one RGB/CMYK spot colors were identified, the Spot color selection window will open


• By default, checking the box will Shuffle all the spot colors

• The target colors will appear next to the Edit button

– Pressing the Edit button will open the Spot color selection window

• All spot colors detected in the job will be listed and selected

• Select All selects all colors if checked and none if unchecked


Shuffle colors• Shuffle Selected Colors (selected by default) - All and

only checked colors will be shuffled

• Replace with Set colors – will replace the checked colors with colors defined in the set

– If the number of set colors is same or larger than the number of checked colors - the replacement colors will be selected pseudo-randomly for each cycle

– If the number of set colors is smaller than the number of checked colors - an error message will appear when pressing OK – “Please add more colors to the set or uncheck some Spot Colors”

• Predefined sets will be included - To select or edit a set, the drop down list must be opened.

• Set will include up to 12 colors

• When pressing the Edit Set icon the Edit Set window will open


• Custom Set Editing– Each color has a checkbox to select whether the color will

be an active part of the set.

– Click on a color will allow to modify it

• Auto-Fill feature

– enables the user to choose two colors, and if there are empty colors in-between, Designer will auto fill the colors between them

– enables to create many colors by choosing just two colors, and you automatically get beautiful matching colors without selecting every color manually.

Text Formatting• HP formatting - New Dynamic text Application

• Adds the ability to modify the format of a Number and Date/Time fields

• Category – Number, Date


Text Formatting - Number• Settings:

– Decimal Mark – (.)or (,) The one that is not selected as Decimal mark will be used as the Thousands separator.

– Output Format – will include a pre-defined list of common Format types:• 0• 0.00• #,##0• #,##0.00

– After selecting a format, if it is manually modified, it will be saved and added to the list in future list of the template once OK is pressed.

– When editing a format, only 0 # , . can be used. Other characters are not accepted.

– Selecting a format and pressing Delete will remove it from the list. Pressing OK will save the template without the removed formats. Pre-defined formats can’t be deleted.

– Output shows the Input with the selected format and its properties

Text formatting - Date• Settings Section

– Category – Date or Number

– Input Format – determines how to read the values from the fields. Will include a pre-defined list of values

– Output Format – will include a pre-defined list of common Format types

– Language – if an output format that uses MMM and/or E was selected, the language drop down will be available, it will include FIGS,CJK,RU+PO, Dutch, Swedish, Czech, Danish, Polish, Turkish, Norwegian, Romanian, Hebrew, Arabic and Greek and affect the format the written month and day will appear in the output

– Selecting a format from the list will also show it in a text box above the list. If the format is edited in this box, it will be saved and added to the list in future list of the template once OK is pressed.

– When editing a format, the only characters to be accepted are: d m M y h H s a E : - /• d – day in month

• M – month in year

• Y – year

• H – hour in day (0-23)

• h – hour in am/pm (1-12)

• m – minute in hour

• s – seconds in minute

• a – AM/PM

• E – day name in week

• m is for minutes. M is for Month. If the user mixes between them, the case will be changed automatically when the text box loses focus

Counters• Generate a counter as an alternative to loading database file

• Pressing the Counter button will open the Create Counter window

• Define: First Record, Step and Number of Records/ Last Record.

• Entering a number of records or last record will auto calculate and show the other value in its box.

• Maximum number of records is 10,000. Values larger than that will cause an error pop up to appear when pressing OK.

• Values can be positive or negative

• Will appear as any other DB file in the Data Fields panel

• Opening the DB window will only show the data in the preview area. The rest will be greyed out.

• Counter can be replaced by another counter or by selecting a DB file.

• Both will issue a warning


Edit values from database• When preview is enabled, double-clicking a value in

the preview panel, will open a window allowing to change the value, preview it and save it


Import rule – mapping window• When a rule was imported to Designer, the user will

be required to re-assign the fields to that rule.

• After loading the rule (which is basically a dynamic ‘script runner’) the following window will pop up:

Workflow:

The consumer scan 2D barcode using normal barcode reader on the smartphone

Match the pattern displayed on the smartphone and the one on the label

2. Indicate a default assets folder which contains the background image going to be used in Visual Code generation.
