We need more improvement in spectrum efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the networkin order to provide attractive services by reasonable payment,
• 3G has a much higher capacity than that of 2G. • A potential demand is observed in the increasing traffic.

At the LTE launch,DOCOMO launched LTE with 5-10MHz bandwidth in 2.1GHz band.A new spectrum, 1.5GHz band with 15MHz bandwidth, will be used in 2012. Others(800MHz,1.7GHz) will be also used for LTE.
The LTE spectrum will be expanded according to the spread of LTE UEs for a long timeframe.

The LTE spectrum will be expanded according to the spread of LTE UEs for a long timeframe.
•We can reuse the assets of nationwide base sites such as antennas.
•2.1GHz is favorable from global roaming point of view.
•UEs have 2.1GHz RF parts.
Spectrum fragmentation is a challenge for LTE.Europe:2.6GHz band, 800MHz band, 1.8GHz bandUS:700MHz band, AWS band(1.7GHz/2.1GHz)Japan:1.5GHz, 1.7GHz, 2.1GHz, 800MHz band

• Providing a smooth path toward 4G was DOCOMO’s original motivation for Super3G(LTE) in 2004.
• In 2008, 3GPP started IMT-Advanced study and TR 36.913 stated “LTE- Advanced is an evolution of LTE.”
LTE promises an evolution path toward a true 4G / LTE-Advanced.
