IntroductionBasically the grid is a unidirectional system of electricpower transmission, electricity distribution anddemand driven control.

In the 20th century local grids grew overtime, and wereeventually interconnected for economic and reliability

reasons.

Actually the growing demand led to increasingnumber of power stations

and in parallel growing concerns over environmentaldamage from fossil fired power stations has led to adesire to use large amounts of Renewable EnergySources.

So the need for the more sophisticated controlsystems become apparent to facilitate the connectionof sources to a highly controlled grid.

Finally the emerging technology called as SMARTGRID TECHNOLOGY came into existence which cansatisfy all the energy demands and give the fruit fullresult.

Origin of the term Smart GridThe power grid startedin 1896, based in part

on Nikola Teslas designpublished in 1888 butrecently in the past 50 years, electricitynetworks have not keptpace with modernchallenges. So theconcept of smart gridcame out.

Definition A Smart Grid is a modernized electrical grid that usesanalogue or digital information and communicationtechnology together and act on information.

It can be more clearly defined as , An electricitynetwork that can be intelligently integrate the actions

of all users connected to it in order to efficientlydeliver sustainable, economic and secure electricalsupplies.

FeaturesLoad adjustment

Demand response support

Greater resilience to loadingPrice signalizing to consumers

Modernizes both transmission and distribution

When power is least expensive a smart grid could turnon selected home appliances such as washingmachines or factory processes that can run at arbitraryhours.

Smart power generationIt’s a concept of matching electricity production withdemand using multiple identical generators which canstart , stop and operate efficiently at chosen loadsindependently of others.

It should be suitable for both base load and peaking

power generation.

Matching supply and demand called load balancing isessential for a stable and reliable supply of electricity.

Operators of power transmission systems are charged with the balancing task, matching the power output ofall the generators to the load of their electrical grid.

The load balancing task has become more challenging

as increasingly variable generator such as windturbines and solar cells are added to the grid forcingother products produces to adapt their output muchmore efficient than their past.

The purpose is to provide dynamic generationcapacity to meet sudden and unexpected drops in theelectricity supply.

Conclusion

Definitely in future smart grid will connect every

one to abundant , affordable , clean , efficient andreliable electrical power any time and any where. It will offer the world the best and most secure electricservices. Hence we can conclude that this technology

improves the economy of our country by reducingelectrical losses.
