ASEAN IVO is a global alliance of ICT R&D institutes and universities in the ASEAN region and Japan, it is operated and represented by a Steering Committee of representatives from 10 ASEAN countries and Japan.

IoT Open Innovation PlatformThe widespread usage of smart phones and smart devices in the network today has transformed the network into a connected web of smart devices. These devices are made smart by the applications developed to provide huge benefits and services to theusers. This is the Internet of Things (IoT). To stay competitive and to be able to capture the potential IoT market, it is important to have the IoT platform and acceleration tools to facilitate the rapid development and adoption of IoT solutions for public and private markets, especially in new upcoming developing ASEAN countries. A common platform would allow integration of data and services from different systems. Thus allowing the combined operation of many different heterogeneous IoT systems onto one common open platform, the IoT open innovation platform.

Application enablement platformprovides abstraction layer to connect to the different devices available. Application dashboard tool to generate information visualization via easy to use interface.

Platform middleware provides the necessary integration by adopting common standards. Devices and sensors from different systems and protocols can be connected to the same platform, thus providing connectivity and functionality between heterogeneous platforms.

Platform scalability includes private cloud and embedded cloud adoption to provide platform ownership. Services need not be provided from an external party cloud services.

Rapid development platformprovides the facility to develop and test applications rapidly. 22

A Hybrid Security Framework for IoT Networks

Project Members

IoT is defined as a pervasive ubiquitous network for a wide range of smart devices and smartapplications to improve our life quality. IoT is attractive to the attackers, since IoT devices are usually24/7 online and have weak protection due to limited resources. Complex protection mechanisms of thetraditional Internet can not be directly applied for IoT networks. This project proposes new solutionswith a comprehensive customizable security framework for IoT networks and lightweight mechanismsadapting to specific issues of heterogenous IoT devices and applications. In addition, the projectprovides a platform for IoT monitoring and detection system, and a multimedia IoT gateway platform forsecure cross-platform screen sharing (Smart Office).

Mobile IoTInternet of Things (IoT) will be an integral part of our lives and is expected to improveevery aspect of our daily activity. This project explores the feasibility and theoreticallyquantify the benefits of using mobile agents to help wireless sensor network operatemore efficiently by reducing the required number of sensors, simplifying thedeployment and setup, as well as improving its scalability.

In today’s highly digitized society, ICT technologies play a critical role in preserving health and safety of vulnerable citizen especially women, children and the elderly. There is a growing needs for monitoring the citizen’s safety and lifestyle anytime, anywhere. The goal is to develop a system which enables tracking of location, lifestyle and health status in promotion of public health and safety taking into consideration ASEAN culture, lifestyles, behaviours and infrastructures by integrating the state of the art indoor/outdoor localization, motion/health reasoning, IoT and analytics technologies.

Evapotranspiration (ET)-Based Irrigation System with IoT Integration for Smart Farming Application Addressing the ASEAN Impending Water Crisis

Agricultural irrigation is the largest user of fresh water in Philippinesaccounting for 82% of the overall fresh water withdrawals. In order to meetindustrial water needs, reducing water used for irrigation is actuallypredominant not just in other countries but also here in the Philippines. Themotivation for this type of water savings is usually not an absolute shortage ofwater but a desire to use the available water not for irrigation but for otherpurposes.

The objective of this project is to evaluate the suitability ofevapotranspiration (ET)-based irrigation scheduling technologies foragricultural applications, specifically, the ability of the technologies to: applythe appropriate amount of water at the appropriate time, using the estimatedreference ET (ETo) in a particular field. The figure shows the block diagram ofthe proposed project. The main controller of the system is the microcomputerwhich serves as the heart and brain of the system. It controls the storage ofsensor data from the sensor module to the cloud storage. The sensor data willthen be used in the estimation of water loss in the farm by the computation ofthe evapotranspiration and will then be the basis for control of the actuatorsto irrigate the farm based on the computed amount of water loss.

Introduction:

In this project, we aim to develop a Scalable and Distributed IoT Framework for HydroponicGreenhouse in order to increase hydroponic production with following requirements: low cost,scalability, distributed, high performance and practical using. This 3-layers framework (datacollect and control, management and data analysis) consists of following components: i) End-to-end IoT-based Infrastructure, integrated with a Mobile Robot (optional). ii) Transparentmanagement component. iii) Cloud, Fog Computing and APIs. iv) Data Analysis.

The objective of FarmTab is to boost the productivity of urban farming byautomating the farming process by embedment of Internet of Things (IoT) andArtificial Intelligence (AI) technologies into one platform. FarmTab is designed toenable seamless data collection from various sensors such as pH level,temperature, humidity and moisture in urban farm condition. The AI modelstrack and predict various environment impacts on crop yield for urban farm.

Smart Aquaculture Quality Monitoring (AQM) System with Internet of Things (IoT)

Introduction :

This project is focusing on enhancement of shrimp farm management through an embedment of multiple wireless communicationtechnologies. The technologies of RFID, WSN, mobile application platform and IoT system will be embedded into one platform as anefficient solution for aquaculture quality monitoring (AQM). The proposed wireless system known as “Smart Aquaculture Monitoring withInternet of Things System (SAM-IoT)” is designed to collect data of pH level, dissolve oxygen (DO) and water temperature at shrimp ponds.The proposed active RFID tag will transmit the captured data to its reader which is also designed as an internet gateway. A low powerconsumption AVR microcontroller will be embed to both of proposed RFID tag and its reader for efficient power management. Fastrectification work regarding water quality of shrimp pond could be deployed through this feature. Therefore, the valuable captured datafrom this proposed SAM-IoT system can be accessed at anywhere on anytime as long as the internet bandwidth is available.
