SMALL SCALE GREEN HOUSING.
ABSTRACT
The art of green house plant production has recently become an
alternative to most
people. This is because of its effectiveness in terms of
shortened period of production,
close attention to crops, and limited pestsand disease
incidences.
Standard sizes can be developed to meet the clients demand and
taste. Varied materials
like timber, bamboo, metal, polythene, insect screen, drip
irrigation and other plastics can
be used with the clients consent.
Various crops can be grown as a monoculture, mixed crop or
crop-flower intercrop.
INTRODUCTION
Green house plant production is the art and science of intensive
cultivation of valuable
crops to optimize on resources. Almost all kinds of crops can be
grown in the green
house: vegetables, fruits and flowers.
Due to the decreasing sizes of land holds and the need for
increasing production, green
housing is the best resort. Today most people are preferring
growing their own vegetables
and fruits because of the problems emerging from market products
whose source may be
dubious e.g. one needs to be certain whether the farm products
are free from chemicals
by observing the preharvest intervals (PHIs), water used for
irrigation is safe and notsewage water etc. will reduce the chances
of exposure to carcinogens.
Green housing in this case will be tailored to the clients
taste, demand and satisfaction. A
standard green house will be established based on the land
available, funds at disposal
and scale of production.

METHOD
Soil analysis.
Land preparation.
The soil/media in the green house will be ploughed into a fine
tilth.
Farm yard manure at the rate of 4kg/m2 will be thoroughly worked
into the soil and
fertilizer applied on the planting hole of each crop at 5g/plant
or one teaspoon full.
The plot will be divided into the various sections to
accommodate the various crops.
Proper spacing will be directed.
Proper cultural practices like watering, weeding, inspection
during growth will be done
and directed.
ADDITIONAL SERVICES OFFERED.

Advisory services on agriculture and marketing.
Construction of other horticultural structures like shade nets,
storage facilities etc.
Dry land farming.
Fertigation.
