The Mission Bay Aquatic Center, operated by Associated Students of San Diego State University and UC San Diego Recreation, is the premiere school of watersports in Southern California. We offer classes, rentals, events, and youth camps in sailing, surfing, wakeboarding, waterskiing, windsurfing, stand up paddling, kayaking, and rowing.

WHAT WE DOCLASSESThe core of our mission at MBAC is to teach.

There are several recreational classes offered in each of our sports that should meet most schedules. Our goal is to turn your interest in a sport into a reality in a safe and welcoming environment. At the completion of each course you may become checked-off to rent a piece of equipment in our rental program, be ready to take the next level course, or be ready to go out and safely practice on your own.

RENTALSNow that you have the skills, use them!Our rental program is designed to help you continue the activities you learned in class without having to buy, maintain, or store your own equipment.

ELIGIBILITYSome rental equipment requires qualification to be eligible to rent. You can become qualified by completing a class on a particular piece of equipment, or if you are already skilled on a piece of equipment you can become qualified by completing a private orientation where your knowledge and skills will be tested. Further instruction may be required if you do not pass the orientation qualification. See the list below to see what equipment requires qualification.

As the largest wakeboarding and waterskiing school in the world, MBAC offers a complete experience.

Riders are pulled by the highest quality Correct Craft Nautique wakeboard or waterski boats using the newest and most innovative equipment from Liquid Force and O’Brien. Whether you would like to learn to wakeboard for the first time or would like advanced level coaching, our US Coast Guard licensed boat drivers and instructors will provide a customized experience every time you leave the beach.

Wakeboard Development Week1 week. Riders will have the opportunity to take two long sets each morning with expert coaching from our most highly experienced instructors. Your riding will be broken down into the most fundamental elements to help you improve and successfully land new tricks. The Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED course incorporates the latest science and teaches students to recognizeandcareforavarietyoffirstaidemergenciessuchasburns,cuts, scrapes, sudden illnesses, head, neck, back injuries, heat and cold emergencies and how to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies to help victims of any age - adults (about 12 years and older) and pediatric (infants and children up to 12 years of age). SDSU and USD students can earn university credit in watersports classes at the Mission Bay Aquatic Center. Each class meets for 1 hour 40 minutes, 1 day per week for the 15-week school semester. Students may receive credit for each course with a letter grade, credit/no credit, or audit grading basis (you must be enrolled at SDSU or USD to receive college credit). With decades of kayaking program development, MBAC offers a diverse collection of kayaking classes and tours that has something for everyone. WINDSURFING

Windsurfing is a fun and versatile form of sailing that anyone can learn. The calm, protected waters of Mission Bay are the ideal place to enjoy windsurfing. MBAC provides a wide range of equipment specially designed to teach beginner and intermediate windsurfers. Learn fundamental skills with on-land instruction and then take to the water for lots of practice and coaching.

ROWINGThe sport of rowing offers a unique combination of exercise and the enjoyment of being out on the water. MBAC is recognized as one of the most complete rowing instructional programs in Southern California. Our sweep rowing program introduces you to rowing as a team sport, where the sculling program introduces rowing as an individual activity. Either path will get you out on the water participating in a sport rich in tradition, and high on reward.

watersportscamp.comTHE WATERSPORTS CAMP is an exciting and fun day-camp sponsored by the Peninsula Family YMCA and held at SDSU’s and UCSD’s Mission Bay Aquatic Center. Camps run Monday through Friday in weekly sessions. Optional early and late supervision is available.

FULL-DAY CAMPS In our traditional full-day program campers choose an activity to learn each morning during the morning instructional session (8:00 - 11:00 a.m.), and then will be grouped together by age to try a different sport each day in the afternoon multisport camp. You can also choose to upgrade from the afternoon multisport camp to one of our afternoon specialty camps.

MORNING INSTRUCTIONAL OPTIONS (ages 6 to 17)(8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.)The following activities are offered during the morning instructional session:
