In Touch (Stylish Trends)“Going to a party? Need a bit of glitter?”

Lee’s stall supplies Plymouth’s ladies with sparkly dresses to celebrate in, alongside a full range of comfortable everyday clothing, and all at extremely reasonable prices. Dress sizes run from ten to thirty-two, and if you or your man friend need a pair of shoes, you only have to step across the aisle to Lee’s shoe shop.

Lee takes his show on the road, filling a need for men and women in residential and nursing homes and day centres around the area. He will even provide a fashion display for a small group in their home, so they can try things on in comfort and privacy.

Tom Dooley

“Creating a personalised tee-shirt is more fun than mending a broken washing machine, but it doesn’t leave me much time for fishing”When we asked FSB member, Steven Towle what made him and

his wife June take up such an unusual business as personalised

clothing and other such gifts, he told us that it was the chance of

dealing with something more creative than dirty washing machines

that did the trick. It was the arrival of a home computer and a copy

of Corel Draw that led Steven to discover the artistic streak that led

him to his new career running the Tom Dooley’s shop for the past

thirty-five years. Although he now says, he wouldn’t mind finding a

little time away from work for his neglected hobby of fishing.

Vinyl Grooves Records

How one woman’s love for the music of the 50s and 60s led to a much loved career

Donna first tried her hand selling a mixture of goods in the Barbican,

but while most of the stuff stuck in the groove, the records flew

off the shelves. This led Donna to move to the pannier market for

three years and then to her own lovely West End shop. Now she

not only runs her own time machine, selling the vinyl sounds of

the past and present, but also the means of playing them. Donna is

not entirely stuck in the past herself though, as she also enjoys the

music of “Mumford and Sons” – and after checking the group out

on YouTube, your reporter is also impressed!

H SO IF YOU FIND YOURSELF FEELING GROOVY ON SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY, CHECK OUT DONNA’S

RECORD SHOP AND SEE IF SHE HAS ANY SPECIAL OFFERS FOR THAT VERY SPECIAL DAY H

The Final Frontier“Recession? What recession?

Find the right business and go for it!”So says the amazingly positive Julian Shelford, owner of The Final

Frontier comic shop. Julian tells us that he doesn’t just sit and wait

for people to come to his shop because he also takes his comics

to comic and Sci-Fi events, and the footfall for these events is

astounding. His shop was among the top forty comic outlets in the

world and was one of only three “indies” in the list, and Julian was

even nominated for the prestigious Eisner award for his contribution

to a line of work that brings pleasure to so many people.

Zambezi Publishing Ltd

“Much more than just books”

The changes in the bookselling and publishing scene are so

profound that some well-known publishing companies now have

sizeable investments in non-book activities rather than focusing

primarily on books.

Zambezi Publishing grew out of Sasha’s career as an author and

Jan’s computer skills, by producing horoscope books by the ton, then

moving on to publish respected titles in the mind, body, spirit and

healthy living genres. They still produce the high quality books our

customers love, both in paper and increasingly also as Kindle ebooks.

See all their titles on www.zampub.com and buy from us at a

discount, or visit Amazon, or order from your local bookshop.

“Stellium also offers excellent self-publishing services, precisely tailored

to your requirements, so why not see your dream come true?”

It’s so sad to write a novel and leave it gathering dust, and it’s

equally sad to allow your life story to fade into obscurity. For a

modest outlay, you can bring these things to life. Perhaps you are

an artist who could use a truly lovely “showcase book” or maybe

you need a technical manual. Stellium can help with every part of

the process while holding your hand throughout.
