High-Sensitive MicroalbuminACE® Reagents
Why add Microalbumin to your Diabetic Risk Assessment?Although albumin is found in high concentrations in the blood, only minuscule amounts of albumin are normally excreted in the urine. The excretion of albumin into urine is known as microalbuminuria and is a useful indicator of early kidney disease. Patients who have consistentlydetectable amounts of albumin in their urine have an increased risk of developing progressive kidney failure and cardiovascular disease.
Microalbuminuria may also be associated with hypertension, some lipid abnormalities and severalimmune disorders. Microalbumin should be requested when a patient is first diagnosed with Type2 diabetes. After the initial diagnosis, the National Kidney Foundation recommends that Type 2diabetics should be screened annually. For Type 1 diabetics, annual testing should begin fiveyears after diagnosis.
