Over the years, the number of dinosaurs became fewer but it was a disastrous event that wiped out the whole species. Studies say that it could have been an asteroid impact but whatever it was, the loss of the dinosaurs left gaps in the world's environment.

During each period, the land kept splitting from one huge piece into smaller ones. The changes in their homes, climate and food sources aected how dinosaurs lived throughout the dierent periods.

The word dinosaur comes from the Greek language and means ‘terrible lizard’.

The first dinosaur to be formally namedwas the Megalosaurus, back in 1824.

Even though dinosaurs were reptiles, some of them were warm-blooded.

The vast majority of dinosaurs were herbivores (plant eaters).

Although a Stegosaurus body was large, the size of their brain was about the size of a walnut.

What is extinction? It is when a kind of animal or plant cannot be found anymore. It naturally happens over time, and almost everything that used to live on Earth millions of years ago, isn't alive anymore, just like the dinosaurs.

However, this natural process is happening faster because humans are disturbing the natural environment plus fishing and hunting too much. Animals like the West African Black Rhino recently became extinct while the Sumatran orangutans and plants like the American chestnut trees are critically endangered.

Fortunately, an animal or plant that is considered endangered, still has a chance to survive. If we play our parts, we can help protect and restore their habitats. Here are some ways:

Last issue’s theme:Alex and Tampi are lying in the field, stargazing one night. Out of nowhere, they see something shoot across the sky. What do you think it is?

While Angna and Anya are out in the field stargazing, they see something shooting across the sky out of no where. It’s a shooting star. Anya then tells Angna “Look! That’s a shooting star. If you make a wish upon a shooting star, whatever you wish for will become true.” Anya wishes for the COVID-19 to finally be gone. Just then, what they think is a shooting star takes a sharp turn and heads towards them. It appears that it isn’t a shooting star but a witch riding on a bloom. The witch is looking for her missing black cat. She flies to them and ask them if they see it. Suddenly, they all hear a meow from somewhere. “That’s my cat!” The witch screams in excitement before turning to them and ask “Do you have anything you wish for?” Anya replies immediately “I wish for COVID-19 to be gone.” “Abacadabra!” As soon as the witch casts the spell, the world turns back to its normal and peaceful state once again.Pitchaya, 7 years old

While Angna and Anya were out in the field stargazing, they saw something shooting across the sky out of no where. “What’s that?” asked Anya. “Ouch! My eyes hurt,” shouted Angna. A little alarmed, Angna asked “Who are you?” “I’m the unicorn and I need your help,” replied the unicorn. “We’re happy to help. What can we help you with, though?” Angna answered. “I’m injured. Could you please help me take care of my wounds?” said the unicorn. “Of course!” Anya gladly agreed. Angna and Anya helped treat the wounds for the unicorn. “Thank you so much, both of you! You each can make a wish and I will grant it for you,” the unicorn offered. “You don’t need to. We just really want to help you. We don’t expect anything in return,” answered Angna and Anya. “You guys are so kind. Thank you so much,” said the unicorn before it flew away and disappeared from their sight. Angna and Anya were so happy they could give the unicorn a helping hand.Host, 9 years old

While Angna and Anya were out in the field stargazing, they saw something shooting across the sky out of no where. “What’s that thing shooting over our heads?” Anya wondered. “I have no idea. Shall we go and take a look?” started Angna. “But it’s a lil scary, isn’t it? It’s pretty late now,” replied Anya. “We won’t know if we don’t try,” Anya said firmly. Each of them then pick up a twig and start making their way there. Both of Anya’s eyes are tightly closed. “I think it’s a rabbit on the moon,” said Angna. Only then do both of Angna’s eyes slowly open. “The thing we see on the sky. It’s a rabbit jumping on the moon,” Angna affirmed. “Wow! The moon is so beautiful tonight,” Anya gasped. “Yeah, it’s very beautiful,” enchanted Angna couldn’t agree more. Both of them then decide to lay down and observe the rabbit on the moon till they fall asleep.Home, 9 years old

Angna and Anya are out in the field stargazing. Sparkling stars in the night sky are still as beautiful as they have always been. Suddenly, they see something shooting across the sky.

Whoosh…

“That’s a shooting star, isn’t it?” said Anya. “Hurry! Make a wish”“No. That’s not a shooting star,” Angna objected. “It’s a UFO!”

Boom!!! And a downpour of sweets are falling from the sky at the same time that the UFO makes its landing. The sweets are actually gifts from another planet. And this event will later be described as the start of the friendship between Angna, Anya, and their extraterrestrial friends.
