  • PARENTING TIPSWhat does it take to be a good parent?OUMH1303ENGLISH FOR ORAL COMMUNICATION

  • Introduction..Parents today only want what is best for their children. As the child grows older, parents begin to develop their own style of parenting. While every parents intentions are the same, the parenting style they develop can have a great impact on their child.

What does it take to be a good parent and easy ways parents can applied in their parenting skills?

  • HOW TO BE A GOOD PARENTSProvide a positive exampleChildren learn from the example set by their parents whether it is good or not. For example, you can't expect your children to eat their broccoli if you won't eat it. One of the best things that you can do is show your kids how to eat well and exercise by doing it,"

  • Give your child love and affectionA warm touch or a caring hug can let your child know how much you really care about him or her. Tell your child you love him every day -- no matter his age. Praise your childrenWhen they do something good, let them know that you've noticed and that you're very proud of them. No matter how old your children are, your praise and encouragement will help them feel good about themselves.

  • Parenting Tips..Create habits and traditions that encourage family togetherness- Family traditions are also great for strengthening the bond. We take our kids to the playground, we have a small birthday party, and we make a lunch or dinner together. All of these things help create memorable family experiences. And any time your kids are remembering a fun time you had together, it reinforces the idea that you love and adore them.

  • Parenting Tips..Listening to your childrenYou shouldn't just be there to enforce rules, but to listen to your children when they are having a problem. You have to be able to express interest in your children and involve yourself in their life. You should create an atmosphere in which your children can come to you with a problem, however large or small. - Lifelong learning - Children will place a higher value on education if their parents do. Have your child at school on time everyday. When they bring home information from school, take time to read it. If your child is struggling in school, help her by assisting with homework and contacting the teacher if necessary.

  • Parenting Tips..CommunicationEvery parent should communicate with each child. Our children should never be afraid to speak with us. No matter how tough the topic, even if they messed up badly, they should not fear that we will hate them or want to close the door on them. - Seek a third party to help you- A counselor who specializes in family issues is one choice. You can also look for parenting classes or groups that offer education in parenting strategies. Another good idea is to read parenting books and discuss them, but this will only work if you are able to have a constructive discussion without arguing.

  • Conclusion..I would like to end off by saying that parents and their parenting style play an important role in the development of their child. In fact, many child experts suggest that parenting style can affect a childs social, cognitive, and psychological development which influence not just their childhood years, but it will also extend throughout their adult life. Most of us come with a parenting style, even though we may not be aware of it.

  • Conclusion..Our experiences with being nurtured, soothed, cared for, taught, and disciplined are not something we learn about from outside ourselves, but are directly embedded into our psyche through our experience with parents. When we become parents ourselves, the blueprint from our own families of origin are already set in and this blueprint is the background of the parenting style we develop as we begin parenthood.
