Problems with buoys:

1. Atmospheric model assimilates winds from buoys (sometimes with unknown height but regards them as 10 m winds [10% maximum error]).

2. Buoy observations are not representative for aerial average.

3. Limited coverage (parts of NH) seasonal cycles.

Problems with satellite Altimeters:

1. They have some difficulties at very low SWH values.

2. Satellite observations may not be available when or where needed.

3. Some Altimeters tend to overestimate SWH values.
