and injector wells Wellbore stimulation Conformance treatments Tubing leak detection Sweet and sour service (H2S)
Benefits and features Hydraulically isolates the well sec-
tion above or below the packer Packer sets and unsets by upward
and downward movement of CTstring.
Uses proven one-piece packingelement
Adjustable gauge rings to fit wellprofile
Heavy-duty rocker slips for repeatedsetting
Simple, low-cost operation andredress
Packer can be run in tension orcompression mode.
Multiset tool can be set several timeswithout redressing it at surface.
Safety release feature to enableemergency release in tension mode
Pinned emergency release shearring with field adjustable sheartension setting
Available with sealed jay slot Can be run with tandem packer to
straddle across treatment zone
The Model D packer is a tension-setheavy-duty, rocker slip packer for usein coiled or conventional tubing instraight or deviated well applications. The tension packer is set and releasedby simple setdown and pickup of thetubing. It can be set and released mul-tiple times in one run. Tension-setpackers are typically used to isolatethe section above the packer duringfluid treatments.
The Model D-1 packer is availablewith a sealed jay mechanism for use insituations where poor well conditionsmight jam the jay mechanism. Theinvertible packers can be run togetherwith the tandem packer to isolate thezones above and below the straddledsection.
With the packer tool in the jayed,or unset, position, the tool string isrun approximately 2 ft below the set-ting depth. Picking up on the coiledtubing sets the packer. Each alternatesetdown and pickup releases and setsthe tool. Pressure differential acrossthe packer acts on the shear screwsor tends to unset the packer. Duringthe treatment, applying additionaltension or slacking off weight com-pensates for this.
To release the packer, the workstring is run into the well approxi-mately 2 ft below the original settingdepth. This rejays the mechanism andlocks the tool in the unset position, making it safe to be moved to anotherlocation or retrieved from the well. If itis not possible to set down to release,or if the tool will not release normally, the packer can be retrieved by pickingup and shearing the shear ring. Thisallows the cone to drop away from theslips and release the packer. All partsare retrieved with the packer.
