GRAVEYARD open our compilation for the second time running. Hailing from Auckland, the duo of KVNT and HORR keep a relatively low profile, and have not yet released anything commercially. The band has a traditional Hard Rock / Heavy Metal core sound, with Black Metal overtones. The production is relatively low-fi, with the musicians insisting on raw 4-track recording with no mastering, retakes, punch-ins or studio trickery whatsoever. Complexities are kept to an absolute minimum as short, catchy Metal songs are the ultimate aim. This particular song is the band’s tribute to all things werewolf, and we’re happy to have them setting the mood for the compilation once again!

EDITORIALWhAt hAVE mANOWAR

GOt tO hiDE?Welcome to Slaughterama! We have one hell of an issue for you this month, brought to you for the first time in full color glossy format, and also including a free Kiwi Metal compilation CD. However, perhaps the most interesting piece of our issue this time around revolves around our interview with Manowar.

The team here have always wanted to speak with Joey DeMaio of Manowar - it’s no secret that we are massive Manowar fans, and we have had a great time interviewing vocalist Eric Adams twice now over the years. After filling out an interview application form (never had to do that to get an interview before!) and agreeing to a few terms and conditions we got our half hour interview slot. Or so we thought. Read on...

When Joey called on the morning of the interview, there were a bunch of questions I had running around in my head that I was aching to talk with the man about... what was this legal battle stuff with Rhapsody Of Fire all about? Does he really have a glass eye or is that just a famous myth? Does founding member Ross The Boss want back into Manowar as his actions of late would suggest, and did he steal Scott Columbus (ex-drummer) away from Manowar? And what is Manowar’s side of the Twisted Sister story? (see issue 18 of Slaughterama if you don’t know what I’m talking about there!)

All of these things were not being discussed in any Manowar interviews I had come across. Instead, the standard “find us a promoter with balls” and “Metallica is country music” fare was commonplace, and we hate generic stuff. We want to have a laugh with our interview subject, give them a chance to defend any bullshit that is being circulated about them, and present our readers with a unique and special interview. Another thing I often note about Manowar interviews is that they never really go indepth on any one subject. The band tend to gloss over important subjects with a general remark or two like a kind of “one size fits all” comment. I wanted to challenge Joey on his extravagant touring equipment demands, aware that his particular requests are near impossible for some promoters

(especially New Zealand and Australian ones) to provide, and also put it to him that perhaps it is he alone who wants all of this gear at Manowar shows, not Manowar fans.

As a massive Manowar fan myself I would pay a substantial amount of money to watch the band perform in Auckland even if they had to play in a crappy little venue; that Manowar would come and play in my country and sacrifice massive sound/light systems to do it would be a much stronger sign of dedication to their fans than to have these same fans pay thousands of dollars (which most people don’t have and can’t find without going through significant pain) to travel across the globe to see the band playing louder than any other band. I mean, I have to wear earplugs at the local pub gigs anyway because even their tiny PA systems are hard on my ears! And as for the argument that Manowar are all about louder, well they also say they’re about their fans first, and at the moment it seems to be louder first, fans second. I challenge Manowar to ask their fans in the far-flung extremities of the globe this question: “This year if you had the choice, would you prefer to see Manowar in your neighbourhood playing on smaller gear at your local pub for a hundred bucks, or would you be happier to pay a few grand to go overseas and see Manowar play in the environment they would prefer to present to you for the sake of their own egos?” I think the answer is obvious...

Anyway, back to the actual interview. Did any of the above get discussed? No. Why? Well, after 5 minutes Joey shut down the interview, with the excuse being that we were out of time and he had heaps more interviews to do. Hmm... Well, without adding any more I invite you to read the interview for yourself and get your own impressions, and then to check out our audio broadcast of the interview, completely intact and unaltered on House Of Noizz, happening on May 14 2010!

Enjoy the read, enjoy the CD and until next issue, STAY TRUE!

album different from “Ur Jordens Djup”?

There´s lots of….everything, really. (laughs) This time we took “Ur Jordens Djup” and evolved a bit more into the open-minded setting, resulting into the mish-mash you will be hearing on Nifelvind. Band-wise, we´ve grown [into] a bit more tighter community after suffering of serious lack of motivation due to the industry-aspect of the music. I guess sometimes having a lot of people to “help” you in the process can actually be much more harmful than useful. I think our enthusiasm which we had during the process of making the album can also be heard from it.

So how do you think the band changed over the years, since the first album?

Some got tumors [original vocalist Katla], some died [Somnium, guitarist and founder], and the rest got older, bolder and fatter. In the process, we stirred our musical cauldron with more ethnic spices and waved farewell to the blasted “folk-metal scene”.

Does that mean you no longer wish to be associated with that folkish “humppa” [traditional Finnish polka] thing you had going on “Jaktens tid” for example? Do you see Finntroll as a more serious metal act in some way?

We have never, ever wished to be associated with lame copycats whose sheer purpose is to combine alcoholism, humppa and folk

Long story short – FiNNtROLL has got a new album. these

Finnish monsters have been the loyal friends of Slaughterama since the very start. Finntroll is a great little fiend, playing what can only be described as “troll metal” - wild, kicking and heavily mixed with Finnish folk music. We’re talking with mastermind and keyboard player trollhorn, who’ll be filling us in on the current affairs.

the new album “Nifelvind” [“Wind of the Underworld”] is out. tell us about the new songs.

Yeah, the new album was released, and thus far the response has been overwhelming. The stuff you´ll be hearing is a bit confusing, to say the least. Lots of percussion, lots of weird stuff and influences from different genres such as pop, movie soundtracks and even psychobilly. We were toying with this idea of having a band of trolls playing “steampunk metal” and this is how the result turned out. The album might demand a spin or two until it “opens” but trust me, it should be worth it!

how do you think has the band changed in the last couple of years? how is the new

music with metal years after someone else made it already. What makes us differ from these bands is the fact that we indeed are (and have always been) very serious about our music. Nevertheless, it´s our personality and egos which we don´t take in a such serious manner, and that it always [mistakingly led] some people to believe we´re not a serious band musically. Having a good “groove” in a song doesn´t necessarily mean it is meant to be a humorous song.

i wanna ask a question about “Ur Jordens Djup”. i’ve heard a lot of comments that it’s not as “catchy” or “memorable” as other albums. What is your opinion about this record and what were you trying to achieve with the album (meaning, would you agree that it’s a bit of a step away from the typical Finntroll sound, towards Black metal?)

“Ur Jordens Djup” was the album that had to be done in order to do “Nifelvind”. We don´t find it bad at all, quite the contrary (I think it´s our second best album done after “Nifelvind”) but I can understand why certain people don´t find it as catchy as e.g. “Nattfödd”. We weren´t trying to particularly achieve anything per se, just create some noisy havoc as usual. It is much darker and a bit more insane than our previous albums, but nevertheless our beloved work of which we stand 100% behind. Concerning Black Metal - it has always been our thing, and sometimes it´s just more present in our music than other times.

how is Vreth doing there? i’m guessing you’re happy with the new vocalist?

He just got his wallet, passport and all his clothes stolen in Germany two days ago, so I guess it could be better. (laughs) On the topic, we´re happy with him….heck, he´s been in this band for four years,

when can he stop being labelled as “the new vocalist”, heh. Vreth is über, no question there.

You’ve had such hard time with the line-up - a member passing away and all the changes in vocal department. Did you, personally, ever think “fuck it, i’ll just do something else”?

I already and always do something else! Finntroll is an evolving and spreading cancer, which consumes me from within. There´s no possibility for me to stop working with Finntroll as Rivfader is haunting me with a sardonic laughter and Gods know what will happen if I turn my back on him. It´s not a “choice” for me, really.

Was recently reading on the Net about manowar, and how they lead a really regular-guy life outside the band. What do you guys do when you’re not recording or touring?

We play computer games, sports, and have zillions of other musical projects to waste our creativity on. Other than that, we all are in relationships and some have children, so the time reserved for the rock´n´roll lifestyle is quite limited when not recording or touring. The glamour is wiped away quite fast when you come home after a long day at the studio and the first thing you hear is “did you remember to bring the milk and toilet paper?”. (laughs)

And of course, a message to New Zealand fans, if you would? (this is when you plug yourself shamelessly )

Peter Jackson is God, burn Christchurch and wash your hands before having dinner!!!!!!

Words of wisdom, boys and girls! g

SLAUGhtERAmA COmPiLAtiON CD - tRACK 2SOUNDS OF VENGEANCE - “Last Generation” (4:29) Taken from the EP “Act 1”, available now at www.satanica.org

http://www.myspace.com/soundsofvengeance

From Christchurch, SOUNDS OF VENGEANCE have an ‘eighties American thrash meets skater metal’ feel; something you’d happily play alongside bands like Suicidal tendencies at your local halfpipe. Last Generation is a great song which we immediately felt should feature early on our compilation due to it’s mix of accessibility and punch.

SLAUGhtERAmA COmPiLAtiON CD - tRACK 3SVARtALVhEim - “Synthetic Society” (4:54)

When you visit their myspace, SVARTALVHEIM declare “We are Svartalvheim, an Auckland Metal Band. We aim to create original music with Doom and Death metal influences.” They are succeeding in this venture with the track they bring to our compilation, “Synthetic Society”. The production here is superb, and the background synth/strings add a great mood, filling and complimenting the overall song, with well executed Death Metal vocals topping off the experience. A band which will be interesting to follow where they head next.

SLAUGhtERAmA COmPiLAtiON CD - tRACK 4JUSt ONE FiX - “Dead inside” (5:32) Taken from the album “Blood Horizon”, available now at all good record stores

http://www.myspace.com/justonefixnz

As one of the most accomplished bands in New Zealand heavy

Metal, JUST ONE FIX have definitely made their mark. their second full length CD, “Blood horizon” is out now, so we spoke with front man Riccardo about what else the band has been up to. times must be exciting for the band now with the new lineup and new album. What has been the highlight of 2010 for the Fix?

Highlights have been opening for Chimaira, a great bunch of guys and a really fun gig with Tainted and Dawn on the bill, also getting the video done for When The Knife Comes Down and of course

getting our new album - Blood Horizon - out.

What are the main differences between the new album and your debut, “the Price of Sellvation?”.

Probably cohesiveness of the material. On Price there were songs that had been kicking around for 6 years through to songs that were 6 months old so the styles of the songs were quite different and they were written by a variety of people whereas Blood Horizon was written in a six month period by the same 4 guys so it feels more focused.

What have the new members brought to the band?

Given that they’re a bit younger than Sharne and I their influences are different so probably a slightly

harder, faster sound all round and a real hunger to get amongst it and play as many gigs as possible.

A f t e r recording two albums, you’ll have some kind of idea of this... how much money does it cost to make a quality album these days, and how long before you see a return on the investment?

A return - wow in New Zealand it’s tough making the money back. The first album cost us all up around 10 grand, this one probably more like 12 but we feel it’s worth it. What we produce we

want to be of international standard from the sound to the artwork - if we’re going to put our names on it we want it to be the best it can be.

two albums is quite an accomplishment for a metal band from New Zealand, where quite often bands don’t get beyond the EP stage before they self destruct. is it persistence, money saving skills, or some other secret which gets a band actually releasing albums in this country?

Determination and passion I think are the big ones. Sharne our guitarist is the only original member since ‘98 and he has persevered through lineup changes, he really believes in the music and has kept going when a lot of people have thrown the towel in. I guess the latest change was G Force and Stuntcock (the old rhythm section) leaving. Finding quality bass players and drummers who are dedicated to the cause is tough. I guess luck has a bit to do with it too but then if you’re this determined to make it work you make your own luck.

Some people may be listening to Just One Fix for the first time when they check out “Dead inside”, your track on the Slaughterama compilation CD (and one of the songs off the new “Blood horizon” album). Anything you’d like to say to new discoverers of your music?

Turn it up load and annoy the fuck out of your neighbours!

Finally, what’s next for the band? And, any final messages to readers?

Next - more NZ shows - hopefully the South Island for the first time later in the year and we’re currently in touch with overseas labels about getting distribution so we’ll see where that takes us. Check out our Myspace - www.myspace.com/justonefixnz - it has all our upcoming gig dates and some other songs streaming - get your ass to a gig and buy me a beer! g

Review by Roneel Rama

God of War iii in one word…EPiC.

Developed by Santa monica Studios and released in NZ on march 18th, God of War iii is the 5th entry in the series (Chronological order – God of War: Chains of Olympus(PSP), God of War(PS2), God of War: Betrayal(mobile), God of War ii(PS2), God of War iii(PS3))

God of War iii kicks off right where God of War ii (referring to them as GoW now) left off. You (Kratos) ride upon the titan Gaia, fighting alongside the other Titans as you and your new found allies begin the assault upon mount Olympus; scaling up the mountain you get a glimpse of what awaits you before the end.

Graphically GoW3 is beautiful with the transition from cutscene to battle being almost seamless besides a moment of course to grab the controller and wipe the drool off your face from the sheer awesomeness. And if that wasn’t enough for Santa monica Studios the sheer scale of the environments will leave you breathless, when you are on a titan climbing mount Olympus you actually feel small compared to these giants; whether it’s fighting on their arms or swinging across their back the atmosphere that has been created is amazing.

And if you thought they put all their effort into making it look shiny only to let the rest of the game turn out to be crap you would be mistaken. The boss fights are a thing of beauty... never before have i been given the opportunity to kick the shit out of the Gods in such a wonderful manner. i don’t want to

SLAUGhtERAmA COmPiLAtiON CD - tRACK 5BLOOD OF thE mOON - “Path of the Wolf” (7:02)

http://www.myspace.com/bloodofthemoonhorde

BLOOD OF THE MOON is the blood which pulsates through your very limbs filled with hatred towards a modern civilization. A great remembrance of pain and gratitude flows, like the last breath of a dying warrior, who boldly fought amongst his brothers.

BLOOD OF THE MOON symbolizes the cycle of the continuation of the old and in doing so, making way for the new. Inspired by the heathenism and neo-paganism ideology lyrics were quickly written by vocalist Avagorth, the rest bled from instrumentalist Krigeist.

Forged 2008, BLOOD OF THE MOON has already formed a path towards a promising future. Let the flame flicker to life and the wolfs lead the flock as they once did again.

Strength and Honor!

spoil it for anyone so i’ll just make one mention, ripping the head off a certain God is freaking sweet (it was on the demo so it’s your own fault for not playing), I also enjoyed the fight against the lord of the Underworld. Santa monica really have made a gem here which engages you; trust me, when you play you will feel like you’re right there.

the combat in GoW3 is as awesome as ever, with all the issues from the earlier games being worked out. The flow of battle is perfect with the ability to perform combos using all available weapons and i must say you acquire some pretty bad-ass weapons, from hades Claws to the Nemean Cestus it’s like Christmas came early for our buddy Kratos.

the musical score for GoW3 is also fantastic with some remastered classics making appearances again. Every moment in the game has the perfect score playing at the perfect time; it all fits well and if that didn’t grab your attention, for those of us who managed to get the ultimate collector’s edition we were treated to a very special Blood and metal EP. With music inspired by God of War this could be one of the single greatest tributes to God of War and metal music, with bands such as the turtlenecks, Killswitch Engage, Dream theater, trivium, mutiny Within, taking Dawn and Opeth there’s a bit of something for everyone.

in the end all i can say is that i waited a long bloody time for this game and when I finally got it i was not let down; it kept me entertained and drew me into the story. Every God i killed brought me closer to helping Kratos finally have his revenge. in the end God of War iii closes off the final chapter in Kratos’ blood-spattered, vengeance driven story. i loved it - it’s a 5/5 from me.

in the End there will be only Chaos…mmmmm

SLAUGhtERAmA COmPiLAtiON CD - tRACK 6hEAVY ARtiLLERY - “Labyrinth of the Lost” (4:25)

http://www.myspace.com/heavyartillery1

HEAVY ARTILLERY is an Auckland-based Heavy Metal band known for their heavy, experimental style and unique live performances. Formed in 2003, HEAVY ARTILLERY has evolved greatly over the years, with their current line-up being the most successful and enjoyable to date. Claiming always that they “do it for the love of it”, the HEAVY ARTILLERY boys work hard to create music that is both reminiscent of the bands of the past and encompassing of Heavy Metal as it is today.

SLAUGhtERAmA COmPiLAtiON CD - tRACK 7BELtANE - “Satanic Reawakening mmVi” (5:31)Taken from the album “Through Darker Seasons”, available now at www.satanica.org

http://www.myspace.com/darkgodbeltane

BELTANE’s art is crafted by genuine Satanic Warlocks & Witches & so it transfers on this energy to its listeners. It is not a haphazard thing, it is deliberately cultivated. It is designed to raise power and awareness, and does so remarkably. It has all the groovy, compelling elements anyone would require but it is definitely NOT “yippy, skippy, hippy” gaiety. The darkness in BELTANE comes directly from Occult Forces and appears dark because of its depth. What is sung about in BELTANE’s music is actually practiced by it’s members as an ongoing partaking of the Living-Continuim.

SLAUGhtERAmA COmPiLAtiON CD - tRACK 8PUPPEtEER - “tucked in by Brutality” (4:36)Taken from the album “Tucked In by Brutality”, out now

2008 A.D. The birth of Tauranga’s Metal saving machine PUPPETEER. A four piece band with a mission to reclaim the art of Metal as the heaviest music around. Evolving from a primitive sound mixing Thrash with N.W.O.B.H.M in their earliest days into the Thrashing Groove Metal band of today. With the release of their new album “Tucked In By Brutality” Puppeteer are here to stay and will be pulling your strings for a long time yet whether it be in their town or yours.

SLAUGhtERAmA COmPiLAtiON CD - tRACK 9NiGhtmARES - “Sick” (1:33)http://www.myspace.com/nightmaresnz

NIGHTMARES profess to be the hardest gigging teen band in NZ which means you’ve probably already seen the band perform if you live in their home town of Hamilton. Their offering for our compilation, “Sick” is a one and a half minute, no restraint, push it to the limit statement. The spiking energy and gusto of the band’s delivery displays their originality; have a listen to their own special brand of intensity for yourself.

SLAUGhtERAmA COmPiLAtiON CD - tRACK 11EXECRAtE - “Rampage of metal” (4:16)Taken from the EP “Dipsomania”, available now at www.satanica.org

http://www.myspace.com/execratenz

Blastbeats galore with EXECRATE’s “Rampage of Metal” - extreme Metal as it was always supposed to be. This is the type of material that New Zealand fans have come to expect, delivered with all the fierce brutality you’d expect. If you like the recording, be sure to check the band out at their next live performance.

SLAUGhtERAmA COmPiLAtiON CD - tRACK 10BLACK hARVESt - “Sewer Cemetary” (1:59)Taken from the EP “Trapped in Pain”, available now at www.satanica.org

Black Harvest was formed by Jodie Mortimer a.k.a. “The Meatman” from the ashes of former band Spleen in 1997. Horror films have always been of special interest to The Meatman so this project reflects that with songs like “Horror”, “Godless” & “Sewer Cemetery”. Black Harvest has released two EPs: “Black Harvest” & “Trapped in Pain”. Also a full length album “Vampire King” & a new one is on the way. Currently The Meatman divides his time between Black Harvest & making short horror films. One of which you can see on his myspace (shown above).

NOKtURNAL mORtUmVoice of Steel2009Oriana

Quite possibly one of the strongest and most original Black Metal bands... well... ever! If you never heard of Nokturnal Mortum, this is a very interesting mix of Slavonic folk (the band is from Ukraine) and vicious Black Metal. Somehow these guys make it work, creating epic bombastic Metal in vein of Bathory, Manowar and Darkthrone, if you can imagine that kind of mix. Simply the best BM band in Eastern Bloc. mmmmm - Max Thrasher

CAthEDRALthe Guessing Game2010Nuclear Blast

Trippy is one way to describe it. The legendary Doom Metal pioneers Cathedral keep exploring, moving into some fucking bizarre territories, experimenting with jazzy sounds. It’s no longer Doom that Cathedral got famous with, but a beautiful piece of music nevertheless, something you have to actually listen to. Very fresh, original and unexpected. I got a feeling it will be stuck on my stereo for a while. mmmmm - Max Thrasher

AiRBOURNENo guts no glory2010Emi

I think it’s even more AC/DC than AC/DC themselves these days. Kick-ass rock’n’roll, some memorable hooks, wicked drive – kind of stuff you want to put on at a barbie after you done with radio Hauraki and before you started with Slayer. Good honest Aussie rock. If you live out west, this is an essential record to have. mmmmM - Max Thrasher

CREmAtORYInfinity2010massacre

I used to love this band. Back in the day when Doom Metal was THE SHIT, Crematory was top notch. Albums like “...Just Dreaming”, “Illusions” and “Awake” are some of the most interesting Metal pieces of the early 90’s. However now the guys are obviously trying to break into the trendy goth market and it just doesn’t work. Hence an instant classic “Black Celebration” (a Depeche Mode cover, actually) and lots of useless emo filler. And that’s just wrong! So wrong! mmmMM - Max Thrasher

EXODUSExhibit B: the human Condition2010Nuclear Blast

Brilliant stuff! Old school Thrash doesn’t get any better. These guys been around for ages and it seems like they only get better with age! Fast, melodic, exquisitely executed Metal – one smashing track after another. Simply one of the best Metal records this year – nothing more to say!mmmmm - Max Thrasher

RhAPSODY OF FiREthe Frozen tears of Angels2010Nuclear Blast

I never liked opera (and I think adding “Of Fire” to the original name is rather gay), but this record is so awesome I just can’t help but admire! Very nicely executed, fresh, flawless, original performance. If you’re a fan of this symphonic, over-the-top Metal, you have to have it. If you’re not – you still have to hear it. Absolutely essential. mmmmm - Max Thrasher

thE DAUNtLESSSeas Of Red2010Deadboy

Very convincing Death from Wellington. It actually surprises me how many NZ bands do this shit at the top level these days! Brutal sound, very fast and with brilliant artwork. The songs here are quite short, which is a good thing as the material doesn’t get a chance to become boring. All in all, highly recommended, but mostly to the fans of the genre. mmmmM - Max Thrasher

SCORPiONSSting in the tail2010Universal

Sadly, this is the final studio album from the Scorpions. I didn’t think I’d mind, but when I took a listen to the album, that changed. This sounds like it just came off the new release rack from 1988, and that’s a GOOD thing in a day and age where every rock band tries to add a modern spin. Scorpions play the style they mastered so well. The new CD is highly recommended for lovers of traditional Hard Rock, who are aware that the style was perfected by important bands like this. Get this album and prove that traditional Hard Rock still lives.mmmmM - Brendon Williams

JUSt ONE FiXBlood horizon2010N/A

One of NZ’s enduring forces in Metal present their second full length effort. It seems The Fix have gained so much more in cohesiveness and direction, and the result is a more targeted assault;, tighter and more polished production-wise. I especially enjoyed the full-on old-school thrash moments scattered throughout the record. mmmmM - Brendon Williams

SLAShSlash2010Sony

Hmm... a bit confusing, this one. Is it a success? Of course! Number one in NZ, and charting highly all over the world. I can see why too... lots of VERY commercially produced, trendy stuff. Way too polished and listener-friendly for me. It’s generic rock radio music. Overall this album is a mixed bag of guests presenting their sound to Slash’s accompaniment. Not much Guns N Roses to be found here. Get it if you’re the average Kiwi bloke who likes what they play on rock radio.mmmMM - Brendon Williams

AVANtASiAthe Wicked Symphony /Angel Of Babylon2010Nuclear Blast

Tobias Sammet does it again with the second and third installments of the “Scarecrow” trilogy, both released at the same time. “The Wicked Symphony” begins with the nine and a half minute title track epic, and from there the album continues to present great melodies and material of the caliber we have come to expect from Sammet. This album also contains the brilliant single “Dying For An Angel”, featuring Klaus Meine from Scorpions. “Angel Of Babylon” is just as strong... the only real issue here is that there is so much music at once n these two albums that absorbing it all takes a bit more time than your average music purchase... not a bad thing at all! As with the first part of the Scarecrow saga, there are a bunch of musical legends lending their abilities; far too many great names to list here! To close, in case you haven’t guessed, this is absolutely essential stuff. I would recommend purchasing one of the deluxe editions containing both of the albums, as the overall presentation of these looks to be fucking awesome. Matter of fact, buy two and give one to somebody whose musical taste could benefit from a revelation.mmmmm - Brendon Williams

Page 9: Slaughterama 37

Known the world over as the Kings of metal, manowar are as much a lifestyle as a muscial force. Born to Rock, Drink and Fuck, the band have

achieved many milestones in music, and claim to put their fans first. They play record-smashingly loud, and are responsible for many classic metal albums and anthems. these days manowar appear to be moving further away from their initial rock-based roots and more in an epic orchestral, symphonic direction.

however, the core sound elements and the true metal attitude remains, and after two great interviews with vocalist Eric Adams over the years, this time around we spoke with the man in charge, bassist Joey Demaio, We were expecting an equal measure of passion and enthusiasm for metal with an open discussion on topics near and dear to the hearts of manowar fans, as well as affording the opportunity to dispel any false rumors and bullshit concerning the band along the way.

What we got instead was an interview which was cut very short, just as we felt we were getting into the meatier subject matter. Was this a genuine coincidence of unfortunate timing and bad scheduling, or deliberate question dodging of subjects the band will not openly discuss? We’ll let you decide...

What’s new with manowar?

We’re out on a world tour right now that started last summer and we’ve been all over Europe and now we’re heading to South America in May and Eastern Europe in July. We’re going to be special guests with Metallica and Rammstein on the Sonisphere Festival this summer, and of course our own Magic Circle Festival in Slovenia, so no rest for the wicked.

When are you going to grace our shores?

As soon as you can find us a fuckin’ promoter with the balls to bring us down there.

You’ve got the reputation of playing with the biggest amps and the biggest gear and the biggest PA’s - do you think that’s going to turn the local promoters in Australia and New Zealand off bringing manowar over? Could they think “it’s too expensive to bring manowar to these shores”.

No, there’s some good promoters down there; we just haven’t met one yet. But the rest of these guys are cheap motherfuckers. They want to take the money from the fans and the tickets and go buy

houses and cars instead of giving the fans a proper show.

We’ve heard rumors about the new album being called “hammer Of the Gods” - is this still a working title or is this the one you’ve decided on?

That’s the one we’ve decided on. Actually we’re working together on a project with Wolfgang Holbein, Germany’s biggest fantasy author. So that’s about all I’m going to say about it now but it’s a big project and it’s a big undertaking. You can read more about it on asgardsaga.com and of course on the Manowar website.

Who is manowar’s current drummer? You’ve got Scott Columbus who seems to be in and out a bit lately, and Donnie hamzik the old drummer

from Battle hymns era... so who is the official manowar drummer right now?

Donnie Hamzik.

Excellent. i gotta say that his drumming on Battle hymns was really amazing stuff...

He’s burning it up now. He’s in better shape than he’s ever been. It’s fuckin’ frightening the shit

he’s playing, that’s for sure. This last tour we did in Germany and Holland in January was fucking smoking... just smoking.

You are very, very big in Europe and South America but it seems to be that manowar never got the exposure they deserved in the United States...

Yeah that’s right. That’s because we’re not ass kissers and we don’t play country music.

it seems like here in New Zealand it has only been the fans who have taken the time to seek out bands like manowar who have really discovered the band.

When we come down there to fuckin’ New Zealand, then you’ll see what it’s really all about, ok? And all the False Metal motherfuckers and the disbelievers down there will have a bad fuckin’ day. They will suffer and eat shit.

Brilliant! False metal Posers / Enemies of true metal... back in the eighties that would be the dancing on a sting glam bands i suppose...

It’s anybody that misuses the fans and thinks that the fans of Heavy Metal are a bunch of stupid fucks meant to be drained and squeezed and fucked over, and drain every last dime out of them and shit on them, ok? That’s what it means.

You mean people who actually do it for the

money only?

Exactly. And you know who they are.

i want to talk to you for a while about your past guitarist, Ross the Boss who recently...

*Joey interrupts* Alright, guys... this is all I’ve got time for. I’m on a very very short schedule. I thought that was made aware to you.

i thought we had half an hour [this interview was actually scheduled, agreed to and verified in writing for a half hour slot, and no changes were made -ed] ...

*Joey interrupts* No. Sorry we’ve talked for fifteen minutes [actually the phonecall was timed at exactly five minutes at this point -ed]. I’ve got thirteen more interviews to do today.

Uh ok... Could i get a sting for the radio show before you go?

Yep. This is Joey DeMaio and one day we will come down there and play for you motherfuckers but in the meantime the best thing you’re gonna do is be able to listen to House Of Noizz. At least those motherfuckers got the balls to play Manowar. And if you don’t like Manowar, Fuck you, eat shit and die.

thanks very much for your time.

You’re welcome guys, talk to you later. g
